  1. The mayors not gonna be there, thats why Bloomberg went when it was still being constructed. If the mayor was going why would it be in service?

Im excited too!! Only 2 more weeks

The mayor would attend because it would be an achievement for NYC. Other than that, let's hope that some railfans don't misbehave...
  2. As for railfans misbehaving at the Hudson Yard opening, y'all do realize that event is gonna be swarming with cops, right?

By cops that means (most likely) the mayor is going to be there, as well as (MTA) officials, the governor, and city politicians. Maybe even Schumer might be there for the opening.
  3. Events that occurred over the past few months

(6/27-6/28) TOMM, BMT Triplex, Arnines, and BMT Standards were operating for the BMT's 100th Anniversary. The Standars got the most attention because they underwent a ton a maintenance.

(8/8) Lo-V's ran on the (6) line. Lots of noteable railfans attended.

  4. Even if changing the order were as simple as you make it out to be (it isn't, because A cars are more expensive than B cars), you've just replaced an order for 36.5 trains with an order for 31 trains. How do you make up for the shortfall of 5.5 trains?

The A and C don't share any terminals. There's no operational advantage to sharing a fleet. The 2 and 5 (effectively) share a fleet because southbound 2's often become northbound 5's and southbound 5's often become northbound 2's at the shared Flatbush Avenue terminal.

Well it was possible with the (A) & (C) trains back then with the R27/R30's around with what you have with the (2) & (5) trains today. Maybe keep some good R32's to respond to that shortfall.

Unless official documentation comes out from the August board meeting stating otherwise, the R179 order is still going to be for 65 four-car sets and 8 five-car sets.

    Interesting. We'll see...
  5. I find this really interesting, I know it's like 15 years ago but I was trying to find a bus map that was used in 2000 showing Manhattan routes and I can't believe the express bus fare was $3.00 compare to what is now $6.50.

When RTS'es dominated New York, old World Trade, these were the good old days. Even though I lived in the 2000's, I still remember the M27 and the RTS on the M50. Even the M18 as well.
  6. I was thinking, since our elevated trestle are aging, would it be possible in the next 20,30 or even 40 years from now that these lines may have to be place underground? I would think if (MTA) would build a new subway line, it will be below ground rather that make the line elevated.

Most likely not. Some of the sections of those lines are elevated for geographical reasons.
  7. ok here is a idea CTA style announcements on new cars coming out soon like the R179s Examples,

Queensboro Plaza is next Doors open on the left at Queensboro Plaza Transfer to (7) And (N) Trains At Queensboro Plaza

This is Queensboro Plaza Transfer to (7) And (N) trains at Queensboro Plaza, This Is A (Q) Train To Coney Island

This stuff costs money you know. Adding to that, you didn't name the person who would be doing the announcements.
