  1. lol, I'm sorry 'do it'? I hope you mean view from the rfw. And I dunno why the many questions. Just go to the front and watch there isn't anything mysterious about it. Worse comes worse someone else is already standing there or as other said, the t/o has his cab door open and blocking the door.

I meant from behind the door when it's a full cab.
  2. There are several factors in the conversion to CBTC. Yes age is one of them, but line structure has been the other. The whole purpose is to run trains closer together which was needed very badly on the (L) and (7) lines. Queens Blvd. is next, followed by 8th Avenue IIRC. MTA actually wants the Lexington Avenue line CBTC as soon as possible also, but the (T) train will come online way before that's done. Queens above will be the 4th line, as the (T) will be CBTC ready from day one. Now that the Lex line is not fully NTT any more will further delay the process.

I have to disagree with you here. For the foreseeable future, we will only take delivery of cars from Bombardier or Kawasaki. Not only that, many of the current cars are supposed to retrofits in the future. They don't need to be rebuilt, only retrofitted... The soonest the cars will be retired unless some technical fault calls for it sooner than later, will be 2040-2049. Many cars should be retrofitted by 2028-2030. R179 and R211 cars will usher in the new wave of CBTC.

Oh. But I'm just sayin. Other companies could potentially have interest in the NYC subway system, not just Bombardier or Kawasaki.
  3. Back up just a station, the R142's can't go into work service or become work trains (except pump trains) and the R142's are currently the newest subway cars for the IRT System, so they won't be retired anytime soon.

Dude, by workcar I mean in the mid-21st Centruy, dammit! >_<
  4. When the IRT eventually adopts CBTC, do you think they'll retrofit the 142s? Or order new cars?

Most likely buy new cars, possibly from different manufacturers in Japan interested in CBTC equipped subway trains (Mitusbishi Heavy Industries, Niigata Transys, Kinki Sharyo, Nippon Sharyo, Japan Transport Engineering Company, *Hyundai Rotem, etc). As for the 142's, they be either rebuilt to be CBTC compatible, last a few more years of revenue service, or retired altogether to replace to Rebird work cars since the were introduced/entered service into the transit system in 1999.

  5. MTA wants to keep the 2 and 5 as it is that's means No R62A's on 2 or 5, it works out for everyone, The only thing TA can do is improve 5 service in Brooklyn to 11pm.

Not again with this.... its already been pointed out why the (2) or (5) won't see R62A's give it a rest.... their staying on the (6)<6> , politics have nothing to do with it . If the R62A's were to go anywhere else it will be the (4).

Point in truth, the last time an R62A operated for the (5) train was in 2001 (I think). Also, when is the possibility of an R62A operating on the (4)?
  6. .... and let me guess, those rules were established in the name of protecting citizens against 'terrorist threats'  <_<  That being said what I have to say about it? The PAPD can suck many .....

I know right? We railfans just want to take photos and videos of trains. We aren't terrorists!
  7. Wow, 6 pages worth of posts on the R143 (J) in the last 12 hours.

I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised when a CCY R68 ran on the (B) on Monday and the conquestors got so excited that they SET THE TRAIN ON FIRE (or last year when an R32 was on the (R) and they decided to steal the rollsign box from THAT train).....I can only imagine what kind of damage is being done to that R143 set right now....

A wrong lineup isn't considered a wrong lineup until it is accepted by the train operator. There's a reason that home signals have different aspects depending on the direction of the switch.

Dude, there's no word if the Conquestors are messing around with that subway car right now. There is an R143 officialy assigned to the (J).

So don't involve the Conquestors in this case. Besides, they've been caught anyways.

  8. I doubt it because they would only run about 1-2 sets, but it's basically R32's or R143's, they don't want the R32's to rack up in miles plus that (M) Go that's going on next year, they would probably put at least 4-5 sets of R32's for now, plus it's easier to have R143's on the (J) because of the swapping between the J and L lines when it comes to CBTC R160A-1's and R143's

Well, if there are gonna be R32's on the (M), they have to make a brand new rollsign. If there aren't going to be R32's on the (M), just keep the 4-car (total 8 car set) R160's. Simple as that.
  9. Due to an investigation at 137th Street-City College station, uptown (1) trains are running express to 145th Street from 96th Street. As an alternative, take the M104 at 96th Street until 125th Street, and transfer there for the M4.

    Allow additional travel time.

UPDATE: On an R62 (1) train I'm on as a speak, the conductor said there is a track fire at 137th Street station.

  10. Also the R143's will be a regular on the (J) and (Z) so eny is basically running anything on the J/Z lines to balance out the mileage

There's supposed to be a go on the (M) for structural work and the NTT's are to heavy but I don't think the (M) will be 100%, maybe about six sets or more, but this could be all subject to change

And all thanks to a vandalized R32 within ENY yard. Wait, R143's can operate on non-CBTC lines?
  11. If it's an R62A with a half width cab, you are just as entitled to it as you would be on a 32 or 42.

But is it really okay to do it on an full cab R62/R62A (especially on the back of other subway cars like the 32 or 42s)?
