  1. I was reading an MTA document, and in case anyone didn't know, it is NOW comfirmed that the R32s are not gonna be fully retired until 2022 the earliest due to the delay of the R179 cars, and increased revenue service fleet requirements (most likely for Second Avenue and/or the (W) when they start service). So it is a possibility that the R32s could live to be 60 years old. At this point, I feel that the R32s need to be separated to different yards to see the least service possible.

Do you have a link to that (MTA) document that you were reading?
  2. That doesn't make any sense. The (M) can terminate at 2nd Ave. without affecting the (F); it's essentially the same thing; the (M) still diverges or merges at the same point; just a different switch.

It must be those switches themselves that are the problem (at 2AV, not Essex, actually), and it says the (M) is going to Bway Laf. not 2nd Av. Don't know how they would turn at Bway-Laf without going to 2nd Av. or the express tracks (getting in the way of the (B)(D)), so I wonder if they may actually be going to Jay St. and turning past there somewhere, and then going back into service at Bway Laf.

It does make sense the (F) can be delayed if the (M) goes to 2 ave look at the review of (F) line service from back in 2009 and read how (V) service was part of the reason why the (F) was prone to delays and get back to me
  3. Due to switch problems at Essex St, the following service are in effect:

Some southbound f.png trains are running on the a.png line from W 4 St-Washington Sq to Jay St-MetroTech.

Broad St bound j.png trains are terminating at Broadway Junction or Marcy Av

j.png shuttle train service is operating between Essex St and Broad St in both directions.

There is no m.png train service between B'way-Lafayette St and Myrtle Av in both directions.

m.png shuttle train service operating Myrtle Av and Middle Village-Metropolitan Av in both directions.

    Allow additional travel time.

Why they have to reroute some of the (F) via the (A) line? This is a huge mess. B39 bus might be already packed. They need to send out shuttle buses from Marcy to Essex making a link. I bet the (L) is also crowded right now.

they are sending the (F) via the (A) because some (M) trains are terminating at 2 ave nice to have the (V) back
  4. It'll take decades actually, but yes, CBTC will eventually be installed throughout the entire New York City Subway.

As long as the age of the signalling system on a New York City Subway corridor is new, don't expect CBTC on said corridor until years later. Remember that the only reason why the IRT Flushing Line is having CBTC installed is because the age of the signalling system is the oldest than all other corridors. If I'm not mistaken, all the other IRT corridors had their signalling systems replaced in the 1950's and in the 1960's, but Flushing never had its signaling system replaced (?). The Flushing Line being isolated like the Canarsie Line is also the reason for CBTC.

After Flushing CBTC is finished, the Queens Boulevard will have the oldest signalling system, which will need replacing too and its CBTC won't be fully operational for years. It's the same as Canarsie (formerly) and Flushing (currently) went through/are going through with all the constant weekend and/or overnight shutdowns.

True, I know it will take years to install CBTC,Once CBTC is installed the whole subway system will be modern it will be filled with new signals and NTTS (even though I'm certain that all of the old equipment will be gone far before the entire system is CBTC)
  5. I have a feeling with the R143's on the (J) and (Z), the lines could become potential candidates for CBTC installment.

I'm pretty sure every line in the system is eventually getting CBTC installments
  6. Yeah that is what I was saying before. Some people are making it seem like the MTA has to make a brand new sign. Just use paste a orange M on top of the V. You already have the Forest Hills 71st Ave roll sign and the Metropolitan Ave you just change the one that says via 6th Ave.

Yeah I agree it's that easy
  7. They don't need to make an entire new rollsign, just slap a Continental Av sticker over one of the unused southern terminals (I think Metro still counts as the north terminal for the (M), idk), then slap an orange (M) sticker over one of the unused routes and call it a day.

I think they are going to slap a sticker on the (V)'s old route
  8. That's not the reason why. Some of the R160s are OOS for CBTC work, so they use what's available.

It's pretty much for both reasons while the R160s are OOS for CBTC upgrades to you will see R143s on the (J) and most likely R32s and R143s on the (M) this fall because RTO management probably wants to add more trains to the (L)
  9. Or it could be getting washed. Remember, Concourse had the train wash for both Concourse & Jerome

I think you made at typo you mean concourse had a car wash before Jerome and yeah they can also can be getting washed sometimes since concourse yard is an A division and a B Division yard but they don't do any inspections on them
  10. Good point about the emergency situations, I hadn't even thought of that.

Also, was it ever confirmed that the (A) train incident was the T/O's fault? There seems to be a lot of unnecessary jumping to conclusions.

Yeah the blamed it on the T/O there were signal problems at the time and the T/O screwed up badly by switching on to the downtown tracks they didn't even notice they were going the opposite direction till they saw the headlights of a downtown train
