  1. As long as we are sharing where the Xcelsiors should go, I think that it should be the following:

    26 XD40 to ECH

    14 XD40 to BP

    35-40 XD60 for Woodhaven routes

Remaining XD60 to BP for Q64

(Although I can see the XD60s going to the Q70 instead of the Q64 as well)

Do you realize that MTABC isn't getting any new buses? They're getting them "Hand me downs"

    371 XD40 covers:

71 for UP, 75 for Flatbush, 57 for ENY, 35 for GA, 50 for FP, and 55 for CS. The latter two to transfer O7s to other Depots.

    ECH will get NovaLFS

They may scrap the XD60 order due to opposition from the community

No XD60s for Q64. You don't need artics on the Q70, since it's a one stop format. LGA should get some of the option order------ THATS IF---they don't let their buses get into accidents again.

NovaLFS, Quill should get the first 75 to replace their entire RTS fleet they have but should have special features in them.

  2. This was a bit different, however it's one of my favorite transit history stories. By 1930 NSB was the dominate provider of bus service in Queens as they switched over from Trolly cars. Shortly there after, they sold off a few routes to other private companies due to monetary issues after the Great Depression. By 1946 they again were the top operator in Queens, with Triboro Coach being #2.

In 1947, NBS bus operators, and other company employees went on strike which caused the company to go bankrupt. Because they were the largest operator and had such a vast network, the City asked the MTA to take over the operations.

Because the company was bankrupt, and was going to shutter operations as a legal entity, It is much different than the MTAB mergers, and even though it is still quite different, more resembles the MaBSTOA merger.

NYCTA absorbed the operation and was under no legal obligation to run it in any specific way. This was the Birth of NYCTA Queens Division, and the facilities would become the Jamaica Depot, which is the oldest "technical" bus depot in North America, and what is now the Casey Stengel Depot. For purposes of age, the East New York depot is actually the oldest, but it was a BMT car barn at first, and later on in the years they begin to house buses there as operations expanded.

As for Q48, MTA did not existed in 1940 (it came to be in 1968) This was under CNYBOT (City of New York Board of Transportation)

So will we see MTA Bus repaints in the "old scheme" get New York City Bus on the sides?

No, just the logo with an "I❤️NY" logo in the middle of the bus. So far, new buses are in the new Blue Yellow scheme, no more blue stripes

  3. This is was exactly on that booklet I had many moons ago. So the B49 was always at FB...it was never a UP route. I like how they omitted the Q46 under QV. Walnut existed and had half the Bx8?

This was after Coliseum had closed. GH had most of the Bx8, while WA had the rest of its routes.

WA's 220 buses were more shinier than the other 2 depots in the Bronx. It's last newbies was the Nova RTS 8807-8855. If this depot existed today, this one would be 100% clean diesel as well as hybrid ready. But due to politics and the NYP looking for a new printing plant location, the depot closed.

Hey! I remember that. I think I did that roster! Nice find. Oh and I think Flatbush was receiving #9473 and up because I think they were getting rid of the 1990 TMCs at that time.

In actuality, 5075-5124 began in GH before being shipped to FLA when they got the newer 5000 series D60s

  4. Speaking of Xcelsiors, isn't CS portion of the order almost done? IIRC they're only supposed to get 43 of them. They have up to 6017 so that means they only need 13 more right?

These are XD60s to displace their Novas that are in Q44SBS.

They may be up to 6017, but no even numbers on board yet.

  5. Major changes coming to bus orders. We will get more into the details later this evening.

40 foot orders: MTA has decided to scrap the new RFP and reautorize the options for the last LFS and XD40 orders.

274 Novas for Queens and the Bronx. Jamaica will become 100% LFS, all other bus models will be shipped out.

371 XD40's for Brooklyn and Stengel.... Quill may get a piece of the pie, however that is not yet confirmed.

    26 XD40's with options for 14 more, and 53 XD60's for MTABC.

As for Hybrids, Nova has officially protested the sole award of XDE40's and XDE60's. In light of that MTA has decided for the first time in decades to take this into consideration. The final decision was to authorize a new RFP for 80 40 footers and 10 artics. The order could also be split. It will also become the newest segment in the 90 unit New Bus Qualification program as MTA has specified they want to evaluate the Allison EP Hybrid system for multiple reasons.

As far as the Bronx XD60's go, the final transfer location(s) have not yet been confirmed to me by the MTA. As of right now both EN and FB are being evaluated for new buses, used buses, and/or a mix of both. As the 6000's continue to roll in some final decisions will be made.

I would like to see some of the mix breed of XDs & XDEs in the mix. What about the XEs for the B42 & M42. Will the MTA look into NF's different models for both routes? Or may have Manhattanville get XDH or some new design from NF that would be exclusive to them.

  6. Honestly in my true opinion. We can speculate the outcome to what moves will take place. However, the (MTA) has the final say to what moves will happen.

What I would like to take place is possibly part of the LFSA order should come to Brooklyn for the B46 local since KB and GH have the most of the order. I believe it's 92 buses for this order. But due to maintenance issues it's strickly Manhattan and Bronx order.

And it IS a 92 order

  7. Ok two things: ENY sent their Novas 8094-8119 to JA and 8120-8123 to Charleston. So im guessing that they are in line to receive the first option of XDs when they come in, 50+ to replace their RTS buses, followed by Flatbush, UP, and FP. They could transfer some of their O7s to MTABC from FLA & FP since GA is getting XD60s. As for NovaBus LFS, good for MJQ in Manhattan, JA gets an additional, QV can use some more, and The Bronx can get 25 extras for KB & GH. Both orders should have outlets and WIFI installed, right?

  8. NICE doesn't know what to do with themselves these days since the MTA sold the old LIB to Nassau. Before they were NICE, the people of Nassau county refused to fork the funds that was to keep the services under the MTA for another 2-3 years. Because of no funds from LIB, 100 NYCT bus routes was cut. 1/4 of them since have been restored since LIB disbanded in 2012. People just got tired and said "let us find another way to get somewhere instead of taking the bus which is $2.75. Damn!

  9. I see the MTA is going for Allison hybrids. Any reason for leaving BAE? King County Metro out here got XDE60s with the BAE E-series hybrid system and they are spectacular. They cruise at highway speeds with the engine idling and in general are much quieter and smoother than anything BAE or Allison previously put out. Great pull, too, handle some of the crazy hills out here as well as the XT40s and XT60s. Metro stuck with Allison for over a decade (except the Orions, obviously) before going BAE with their latest orders of XDE35/40/60s.

So my guess is that Allisons are better than BAEs If NYC gets dominated by NFs, Ill be damned, You know that may happen with just 10% BYDs for the B/M42s and 30% of Novas.

(How do I get a destination sign)
