  1. Is MTA just holding onto the RTS for good? 2030 and we still got them. Unless they start catching on fire, we keep them in service. LOL

    A 33 year old RTS?

I would say that the next round of bus orders in the 2020s should have Detroit Diesel Series. We need buses with these to compete and compare what engine sounds better.

  2. Wow, where to begin:

Listen, if you're trying to clap back at me with that last bit it won't work. Amazing how anything you do not like to here is automatic slander.

Why is this about you? Because you're the one who mentioned it.

Also, asking that something needs to be done isn't just a mere suggestion. Most people on here already know about your desire to conserve, and your plethora of trips that you make, and whatnot.

Listen, people need to go to places. You can't just mess with their commutes because of your personal beliefs. You can continue walking across Manhattan, but not everyone has the personal free time to be roaming in the streets.

That express bus pass cut now makes sense, especially with your statements above. Listen, snobs are everywhere, not just within one income bracket. Your comments come off as someone who envies anyone who makes more money than you. Everyone is a snob below 110 Street, you have got to be joking. Yourr ideas would not only hurt the "snobs", but all the working-class/middle class people taking buses to get to work, to access medical care, or other destinations. Nice way to give the middle finger to those people too.

I'm glad your ideas are not touching the light of day anytime soon.

No you weren't. Its clearly obvious with your "snob" statement that you have resentment towards those people. To propose everything you "proposed", saying that snobs are located below 110 Street in Manhattan after stating said cuts to Manhattan buses (merging services together is still a cut), and then saying it is just a proposal? Outta my face with all of that.

The rest of that latter quote, please come back to me when you practice what you preach.

BM5, I agree with you 100% on this.

  3. Looking at a map really doesn't tell the whole story of the importance of the route and there are a lot of elderly people that simply can't make the trek up those stairs. Very few of those stations have elevators, let alone ones that function. It seems as if we forget about those who are disabled far too often. They too have places to go and should have a reasonable commute. I don't know if SBS makes sense or not, but if the route is that slow, then at least have Limited Stop service. I have never used either bus, but I do use the BxM6 rather regularly for business over the last year or so to visit clients, and I notice while waiting for the express bus that the Bx4 has horrible headways. Sometimes while waiting maybe one bus will pass by. Couple the long waits with the slow speeds and it must be pretty bad.

For years, I used to catch the Bx4, but ever since 1998 when the bus route went from Walnut to Gun Hill & a few months later, was the 2nd route behind the Bx12 to be converted to artics, it's been horrible that it was purposed in 2008 for discontinuation, but residence fought to save it. Between Morrison & 167th St, your alternative route is the Bx27 until 8:00p, but after 1:00a, use the subway trains.

  4. " I agree, however the Bx4/A crawls along Westchester as it is. And I think one factor is all the stops it makes. Maybe it doesn't need SBS, but making a Bx4A Limited could work, as could making the Bx4 local and the Bx4A SBS since that's probably what the MTA would do."

Why does the Bx4/4A need SBS where you have two subway Lines that it parallels it: the 2/5 from the Hub to Simpson St and the 6 from Whitlock to Westchester Sq

  5. and what about an all hands on deck situation if say the whole subway had to shut down due to emergency?

It has happened before whereas there was an entire subway shutdown in 1989 blackout. They used an entire fleet of the 6000 series fishbowls and the freshly rebuilt blitzes as subway replacements in Manhattan, while the RTS buses and the 9000 series Flxibles covered regular bus services. The last of the 1975 Flxibles remaining covered the Bronx subways, as they was on their last legs. At one point the line at 125th Street & Lexington Ave M101/102 stop was cramped up that it stretched as far as 123rd St.

  6. Man how do they bring back 8017, it survived a mattress fire and I'm pretty sure it was serious, the backend was charred af, prob wanted to keep the 2011 series all together.

You mentioned "the mattress" thing. 6 years ago, a fb group posted about it and nearly everyone except me though that this bus was gonna retire, but I turned around and said that it had a warranty.

  7. Wow (had stopped reading that board by that time); and that includes throughout the 70's as well. Just thought, one of the roster site owners should do those up like the modern rosters, with fleet pictures and all, so you can readily see what's what and where they were (These old rosters used model years rather than mfr/model numbers, and he had to remind us a couple of times which were Flxibles or fishbowls).

    Maybe come up with a classic roster, i e 1991, with NYCTA/MaBSTOA's 19 Depots full of RTS/Blitz

  8. Again.... easier said than done. What cannot happen is you can't have the Bronx Division coming into Brooklyn to cover the shuttle. How are they going to make service?

.... and what your saying is completely out of sync. FB needs all 41 artics solely for the B44. They could use 2 or 3 more. But that's for another topic. But, you have the Bx4, Bx4a, Bx12, Bx41 from Gun Hill, heavy lines. They need their buses. Bx1, Bx2, Bx39 from Kingsbridge. They need their buses. You take away their artics from them all b/c of the issues of Brooklyn, they will scream HELL. (Sorry, but don't see it happening)

Add WF routes along as well. You don't send artics [emoji777]-over 3 Boros for shuttles in Brooklyn, let along the deep parts.

  9. By that logic, the M15 SBS should be scrapped as soon as possible, because it parallels the (Q) . I don't see why the subway should be a sticking point for not giving buses LTD or SBS service. The Bx1 has LTD service, runs articulated buses, runs with the Bx2, and parallels the (D) for a good portion of the route.

Also, since when does the Q103 mirror any subway line?

The Q102 is longer than the crosstowns from end to end. The Astoria-bound route is shorter than the Roosevelt Island-bound route (since it doesn't serve the northern parts of the island), but is 4.9 miles long. The M34A is 2.9 miles long, the M34 is 1.9 miles long, the M23 is 2.5 miles long, and the M79 is 2.2 miles long.

May I ask why you mentioned the Bx1/2 and the D on the GC when that whole Blvd is the busiest street in the Bronx other than Fordham Rd & Boston Road north of Pelham Pkway in terms of transit?

  10. Hatin on the Bx6 already and its service starts next pick? Let me have a say on who should get a SBS if you wanna put it this way:

A bus route that does not duplicate the subway, so Q32 is OUT of the pic. Q102/103 mirrors the N & F lines, plus lines are too short for that.

The Bx19 deserves a LTD, but service is variant ever since the articulated transition in 2003 when WF depot opened. Plus, it mirrors the 2/5/6 lines up to 174th St. if anybody should get a desperately seeking LTD, it should be the Bx28. The Bx38 can be local only during peak hours, but GH would need 20 extra 40' buses or 10 articulated buses to serve that route.

My question is what's the situation with the Woodhaven Blvd SBS? Last time I heard it was a seesaw battle between communities and officials about what to do with parking on the Ave.
