No, I totally agree with you 200% and you are definitely correct. I'm just saying this is what the MTA supposedly said in the final the evaluations which led them to the decisions of now. This isn't my point of view or opinion. We definitely see how the contract was written for the CNG's, (which was a tad bit shady) and you know my personal position on everything that's been going on.

Now you know for a fact I know exactly how much tech experience Nova has. The RTS speaks for itself and the LFS is the most solid platform out which is built with the same philosophy. This is just what the final reports supposedly said, so I posted.

However, my position is the same as yours and it runs a LOT deeper than this! Lol.

Nova quotes the prices of it's buses based on the specs. NFI bases their prices on winning orders.

In case anyone didn't know, MTA has historically ordered 2 pilot buses. NFI created the 4-5 pilot program to one-up Nova and say hey "we can deliver on any schedule you want unlike the other guys."

But In agreeance with you, Quantity over Quality seems to be the precedent right now, and it definitely reflects in the maintenance records and "caugh" Altoona records.

The MTA of today that you and I know are worried about the price on paper. This is the same MTA that at one time said they would never order another bus from New Flyer after the D60's and also said they would never order another Nova after the RTS hybrids. NFI can afford to low-ball and Nova just won't do it. But that's just good business. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Promises are meant to be kept, not broken, for those who control the BLUE/YELLOW brand. At that time they relied upon Orion to do the dirty work, however, since they went OUT of business, the MTA has to suck it up to NF/Nova orders or maybe pick another company, EXCEPT Gillig. Imagine if they haven't messed up that potential Millenium RTS order

  2. Let's just say that both the Nycta & BC merge. And they start reorganization of the bus routes, eliminating the borough prefixes, and just do the number series:

    1-299 to Manhattan

    300-399 Bronx

    400-499 Brooklyn

    500-549 Staten Island

    550-699 Queens

    700-749 Special

    750-899 Express

    900-979 subway/commuter shuttles

  3. THAT GUY AT NINE HUNDRED EAST ONE HUNDRED THIRTY SECOND STREET, BRONX, NEW YORK ONE O FOUR FIVE FOUR, aka WALNUT! I worked at the depot from 1989 to 1990. I was on the 2nd floor at the Surface Training Center, the supervisor had me on the computers next to the 6V71 & 6V92 engines that was on display for training. Everytime I saw rooks in classes, they learned the techniques of troubleshooting. Some of these graduates went over to KB & GH, while others went back to Brooklyn. But it was also depending on "where you live" at. Some of the drivers had hazmat training classes that I would input them for their assigned depot. 5 of those stood in Walnut, while the rest went to Amsterdam, Hudson Pier and 146th Street Depots. One of the drivers who drops me everyday at my stop, gave me a Walnut Depot cap, which i kept until 2001.

Walnut Depot will always be loved and never forgotten

All the video shows is how unhappy everyone is with current service. The bus lanes on the narrow portion of Kings Hway will help as may the rerouting onto Avenue K and around Glenwood Road but you don't need SBS to make those changes. As far as long waits for the bus, articulated buses will mean fewer buses and longer waits especially for the local. The route needs to be split. Should never have been combined in the first place which made the problems we have today much worse. Route doesn't need SBS. But the MTA will do what they want to do anyway. And again they only tell half the story. Audio states average bus speed is under 5 mph. But as map shows that is only true for three small sections. Other data shows speeds on wide portion of Kngs Highway where bus lanes are proposed are already over 20 mph in a 25 mph zone for 21 out of 24 hours a day. So 24/7 bus lanes will not help bus passengers but will greatly delay cars. Another waste of money by the MTA.

For that, the B82 local should've become the B5, while the B82 SBS becomes the B50 SBS. But you see that these are some angry passengers. I know some of you who love UP might have a say on this, but this isn't Burger King. You can't have it your way

The other one that is becoming annoying is the "Caution Bus Is Turning". I was on 50th and 7th this morning and one of those new M50 electric buses came by and I heard that playing over and over.  The more they play these announcements, the more deaf-tone people become.

You think you are annoyed by those "Caution: Bus is Turning" announcements? Come to Philly where 70% of NFs and a few Novabuses have them  Bus numbers 4600, 8425-8427, 8460-8463 & 8540-8542 have "Caution, Pedestrians, Bus is turning" while all others and the new orders don't have "Pedestrians" announcement.

You would have to go waaaaay to 1995. I was in my second week for my last ever Messenger job in Manhattan when one lunatic looking guy was walking on 50th St from 10th all the way to 6th. I was on 4547 on the M50 (at that time, it was running out of 126th St Depot) right in front of the bus until a cop came. He ran for a block until he got to fifth avenue before he was nabbed. He kept flipping the bird to the driver a few after he blew his horn.

    Depots (Major Projects Only)

*East New York - Currently in the final construction stage is the brand new state-of-the-art facility for the merged bus operations of NYCTA and MTABC. The new building will be located and constructed at the East New York Bus Depot site, which currently serves as MTA's Surface Transit Operations Headquarters. This facility will feature brand new bus dispatch capabilities which will be merged with MTABC, as all buses across the fleet will have their radios replaced for one common system. This will begin the much awaited official merger of New York City Transit's TA and OA divisions with that of MTA Bus Company. All buses will also have their fare-boxes replaced for units that will be common to both Transit and Bus Co.

In addition to the new command center, ENY depot is currently being modified to house and maintain articulated buses.

**See current photos of the new command center below.

*Jackie Gleason - In an ongoing effort to increase capacity along the heaviest used bus lines, Gleason has begun modification for articulated bus operations. As of now, the B35 line is scheduled to be converted to articulated ops in late 2018.

*Jamaica - Construction of the new Jamaica Depot is now in the final phase of planning. These discussions include the finalization of the design, the acquisition site preparation, and the overall logistics of the new depot. The official project completion date is now expected for 2020. The existing depot will be demolished, and a new expanded building will be replaced in the current location along with newly purchased property adjacent to lot in order to facilitate expansion, and articulated bus operations.

Last update was my birthday yesterday. So that means the XDEs will then be 9500-9510 (renumbered from 6906-6915) then your predictioned numbered 9510-9784. Thanks for this. I wanna see QV get different bus style vehicles instead of the same thing. Let CS get the Orion 7NXGs/NFXD40s in check. Hoping they arrive by the summer.

I think 65 is probably pushing it a bit considering there was no speedo. I could believe 60 considering how fast it is now even with the stop at 59th street and that big downhill. Check this out:

EDIT: Also, I think saving power should be a very low priority for NYCTA. Of all places to cut costs, power consumption should be towards the very end. The subway is already one of the cleanest, greenest and most energy efficient ways to get around. Increasing performance and speed to make the subway more attractive, if anything, is the greener thing to do.

Have you ever saw this on speed mode? If so, you just made this R142 NIS train look like the Acela Express

It may work.  The A, C needs NTT and  that  is the reason why a lot of these sets have been possibly modified into 5 car sets.  Yes, the C needs longer trains, but it also needs NTT.  It's pretty unfair that the A and C trains always have to stick with the oldest fleet in the system.

I agree. The A & C should be the first ones to get the R211s instead of getting the R179s. This would be a better service for A trains to utilize artics on that line, especially for its Far rock branch. The Lefferts Blvd, the Rock Park & the C gets regular R211s
