Why is it "bad" that they have to be used a little longer... and if they start dropping like flies, then whats going to be used to make up for service, unless theres more R160s to spare. Now its a decent deal for the R32s to run on the lines cause its mostly outdoors and in the summer that puts less stress on the AC units not having to withstand the ambience heat and steel dust of the tunnels like on the .
What justice would it do to tell the MTA to learn their lesson. They are clients for Bombardier who are the chosen builders for the R179s, and frankly as we speak are not meeting their scheduled deadlines that they've agreed with the MTA. So the MTA, had to take initiative to keep R32s longer than expected for service expansions and are getting SMS maintenance to keep them at a moderate state of repair. I don't know whats so bad to keep them running a little longer. Yes I know their past the average age of a New York City subway fleet and yes they are antiquated compare to the "beloved NTTs" and yes they are as old as my parents are, but they still work and until the 179s and 211s arrive on the scene then this is what we've got for now.
As far as for the MDBFs on the R188 goes, first and foremost the converted sets have been running at least over a year since being retrofitted to R188s so give it time, Corona Yard as good as a maintenance barn it is, as of now has much to handle in the sense that their still maintaining the R62As that are left before being transferred over.
