Speaking of, why is that project taking so long?
It always takes long when East NY is involved. The MTA has a stubborn history of ignoring maintenance and aesthetics in blighted neighborhoods, which exacerbates and potentially endangers personnel and pax anyways.

I disagree. In some cases the may be able to get the vendor to foot the costs. Either way they are very useful being on the go, and I see plenty of people using the outlets, myself included.
I guess, in that sense, the has become soft to the wrong plight. Your statement, while unfair, is absolutely correct and reflects how out of touch they are and will remain.
I'm just waiting for the 70s relapse so I can carry my a** upstate with an excuse.

I kinda wished the would focus on improving things that don't go out of style in two years. I find the accommodation wasteful given the gravity of other issues not being invested in.

Why not put some work into your proposals and draw your own track map? The post is unclear and incorrect.
and not scaled well.
BTW are we talking about those moss-covered EL's that seem to shoot through Queens?

sounds like a typical breakroom - dank, discomforting and things you don't want to rub against.
The arm rests are a pain and I don't want my expensive dress shirts ruined. The seats with the faux leather are just horrible. They get really dirty and and not comfortable to sit in.

I certainly won't be this honest... the prices they charge for these trains are ridiculous. I activate when asked or if I see conductor coming down
Inflated, just like the egos of some top brass and the number of photo ops the Governor and Mayor have done.
If they were given money for posing with hobos they'd fix the system faster. I mean, he does pay to play right?
They really should make the seating more comfortable. That's what tends to keep me away. For what they charge I can take the express bus and have a much more comfortable ride.
The vinyl irritates you too? I agree.
Another relic in transit from the 60s that just won't die.

The Q72 doesn't stop at the Woodhaven Blvd J train stop. The Q11, 21, 52, 53 and 56 stop there. The 72 only goes to Rego Park.
I stand corrected. It was Junction Boulevard. My bad.

The whole idea of the app is to make the whole ticket process faster, not more drawn out. That could be another reason that they don't bother scanning them.
That's why the app has the pendulum UI. because some conductors don't scan even though they should by this point.
I activate it as soon as the doors close and the train starts moving whether or not it's scanned.

What exactly are you referring to and why would have so many different unique sign-ons anyway?
Not at the same time. I upgraded my device from Lolliop to Nougat during a clean install, and my primary device headed to the repair shop earlier this year which meant I had to sign on other devices as each was fixed.
The app is otherwise very helpful. The last time I used it, the conductor didn't have the QR scanner but the app has a pendulum UI design to avoid spoofing.

Pics?
Some of these stations are not connected. That sign is misleading.
Park Place = World Trade Center = Chambers (Church) St.
Fulton Street <=> Cortlandt St <=> South Ferry / Whitehall St.
Not only is this station a difficult transfer spot, it's even more difficult because people (especially tourists) think they are connected.
I feel the should become a new-peak express between Marcy Av and Broadway Jct, and after Crescent, a new third track would be constructed, and the would continue express, only stopping at Woodhaven Blvd, which would be converted into an express stop.
This could work well in conjunction with the Q72 which stops right underneath.
(I bolded the part of your comment that best fits with my reply).

Does anyone use MTA eTix? How is it?
I haven't used it in a while. But it's quite solid for me. Given my recent smartphone troubles, my advice is six month's stale.
It helps to have a sign on, which syncs your tickets.
You are limited to six unique sign ons a year. Your account will be flagged after a seventh attempt, and you'll need to call in to have it lifted.

I think some of the resources from SAS should be used to create additional options for service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, such as reviving some of the DSC plans that were scrapped decades earlier, as a means to provide reroutes, not service.
Also, replacing the flourescent tubes with independently powered LEDs with light sensors affixed to them. Several substation explosions this year are definitive proof that the system is placing undue burden on the electrical grid, and if they want to implement CBTC they need a strong electrical system and not one that takes half the system to hell and back.

Bombardier makes good trains tho, it's the internal management that was the issue.

If I were the CEO of the MTA I would scrap that 125 St crosstown thing COMPLETELY, I would just have it go to the Bronx with bellmouths leading to 3 Av
Sent from my SM-G386T using Tapatalk
If I may ask, what is a "bellmouth"?
I might have made a similar suggestion under the proposals thread, in which instead of nestling the last stop on SAS under 125th Street (which I feel is reckless given how deep it already is), to spurn a third track toward 3rd Avenue - 138th Street [Mott Haven]. It could supplement or replace service, although the platforms might not have the width to handle a R160-sized girth.

to ensure articles posted here are current, you should use the search tools function in the browser to limit results to the last two months. You can also specify a specific period using a range, or the wayback machine.FWIW, that article is over a year old.

I love this sarcasm. It's palpable [emoji13]I'm starting to think the R211s might already be RETIRED before the full second avenue subway project is complete [emoji19][emoji19][emoji19][emoji19][emoji19][emoji19][emoji19]

Your lack of reasoning mirrors my first six months on this forum. It's like a wayback machine meeting a looking glass.Operations planning isn't done based on whether or not something will be weird to transit fans; they're done based on what's practical and makes the most sense. One again, your suggestions don't make sense.
The MTA is not an agency of bold decisions. Although your suggestions leave out other problems that may arise.
Transit is like a symbiotic relationship. Things need to work well together in order for anything to move forward.
The other synonym is bureaucracy.

this would best be resolved through interagency cooperation, assuming the MTA is willing to utilize Metro North service to get customers to their Bronx-based destinations. This would barely cover customers, though, and they'd have to walk a few city blocks to finish their trip.Assuming this does not include stations:
Northbound trains terminate at 34 St-Penn Station
shuttle service runs between 207 St-168 St
service suspended
Northbound service rerouted to 96 St-2 Av
shuttle service runs between Norwood-205 to 161 St-Yankee Stadium
trains run via 53 St
trains terminate at Broad St via Nassau St
trains run in two sections:
1. Ditmars to Queensboro
2. 57 St-7 Av to Coney Island via Broadway/4 Av Local
Northbound trains terminate at Whitehall St
Northbound service terminates at 59 St-4 Av
service is suspended
Free shuttle buses run between:
1. 168 St-34 St-Penn Station via local on CPW and 8 Av
2. 161 St-Yankee Stad. to 47-50 Sts via express on CPW
3. Queensboro Plaza to 57 St-7 Av
If I may ask, what is CPW? A highway, or another abbreviation I should know but don't?

R160's and R179's cannot run together in service.
I swear I asked this question and got the same answer last November.
We gotta consider putting a sticky on the page we can just link to answers and not waste keystrokes.

Nice catch. Surprised the sign would say Ozone Park.
If I remember correctly, all cars with interactive maps or FIND have a copy of every line at their disposal.
The combinations and possibilities are endless. But this is quite the gem. This vindicates a certain someone's signature...

They're probably in their in-between edit phase. The Glen Cove Ferry bus never made it into the GTFS feed, so any app that has it is doing it manually.
The fall GTFS has some oddities in the Saturday schedule...there's a bunch of trips that shouldn't be there. Includes 7 n6X trips, 4 n6 trips, 4 early AM n4 trips, 3 Mineola-Roslyn n23 short turns, and an 8:55am n22 out of Jamaica.
Bee-Line Buses sometimes have hollow entries if the schedule was recently updated. It'll pass.

In addition, based on a reply I was given this past January, the Lexington Avenue line is at dispatch capacity. No more trains can be added without having an adverse or counterproductive impact.I agree. The <2> is just redundant! We already have exp service and his plan involves reducing service on the by making the express conflict with the local.
The second phase of SAS should connect with 3 Av - 138 St instead of tapering off under a station that is already so deep underground, had its elevators rehabbed, and would only cause more disruption to an already-ravaged section of town.
I predict more displacement of businesses and residents should SAS' current plan be allowed to continue. I don't live here, but I'm scared of what could happen.

would it be reasonable to dedicate certain MTA employees to these tasks? It goes beyond that. The important projects that they do invest in are out of control. I understand Phase 2 will entail underpinning Metro-North, but there is no reason that Phase 2 should cost $6 billion with two-thirds of the tunnel work already done and with a scaled down terminal station and without the proposed yard at 129 Street. There is absolutely zero accountability held on the contractors at the moment, which has been mentioned in this thread and others ad nauseam.
Some of them are hard as nails and have a better understanding and concern for the system than contractors *cough* outsiders.

SUBWAY - Random Thoughts Topic
in New York City Subway
Posted
It's a companion QR reader for the eTix app, which will allow MNR & LIRR riders who have combo tickets to pay their subway fare as an alternative to swiping.
I do wonder how the transition will go for EasyPay customers. It really won't be much of one given I already manage my card online.
I originally joined when I lived in Westechester because I got sick of having to buy MetroCards over and over. I googled "an easy to pay metrocard" and the rest is 'golden' history.
