  1. Much more interesting question: how would a southbound ever get stuck on the Broadway line in Lower Manhattan...
  2. But why? It's much simpler to keep the shuttle and just do a full replacement of the . And anyway, that complicates post-PM rush/pre-AM rush put ins/set outs from CIY for the . (Also why the should run down Sea Beach)
  3. That's gonna give you 3 services on one track at Dekalb... Also let's just consider the merges involved in this: Heading southbound: -With the at 63rd -With the and at 47-50 -With the at Dekalb -With the at Dekalb I like the speedy midtown service too -- I'm just worried you'll lose all those savings in a congested Dekalb.
  4. Jesus, either make a GO and provide replacements, or wait until it's not about to be rush hour... Service Change Posted: 08/02/2017 2:33PM Due to track maintenance Delancey St-Essex St and Broadway Junction, the following service changes are in effect: and trains are running with delays in both directions. Broadway Junction bound trains are running on the line from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 2 Av then terminate. Broad St bound trains terminate at Broadway Junction. There is no and train service between Broadway Junction and Delancey St-Essex St in both directions. There is a train shuttle running between Broad St and Delancey St-Essex St in both directions. Allow additional travel time. 5. I would be for something like that if the frequencies worked out. If you're splitting N service which runs ~8tph during peak, you're going to get two services running every 15 minutes each, something that will harm commuters by reducing predictability. People like to be able to plan ahead, and you're not letting them do that. What I suggest instead is basically what everyone else has been saying: extend the W down Sea Beach. No new services, simpler merges, and more service on all the corridors you mention.
  6. Think of it this way. If a round trip takes x minutes, and you want y headway between trains, you'll need x/y trains in service (+spares). That's oversimplified, but basically how things are done. The total number of trains in service on a route has no bearing on a line segment's capacity -- the space between them is what counts. The only concern with # of sets is yard space.
  7. It's Monday, y'all.... Due to ongoing track work and construction between 8 Av and 86 St, southbound trains are running on the line from 36 St (Bklyn) to Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Free Shuttle buses are running in both directions between 36 St (Bklyn) and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Transfer between trains and Shuttle buses at: 36 St (Bklyn) and Coney Island-Stillwell Av . Expect delays in train service. Allow additional travel time.
  8. Well then send it to some other South Brooklyn terminal. It's not like we don't have options... And in fact, if you sent it somewhere on the Sea Beach, you could replace the on evenings and weekends with the , simplifying things. Finally, fourth ave has been begging for service ever since the brown went away -- here's an opportunity to give it to them. Astoria riders may be pissed they don't get express service, but that makes a what, four stop difference over current? It also gives them more service to lower manhattan/downtown brooklyn, two growing jobs centers. The fact is that broadway is currently limited by a stone age service pattern that has trains switching from local to express mid-corridor. In an age where everyone is gasping for more subway capacity, letting this opportunity to optimize pass us by seems irresponsible. Right now the corridor runs about 30 trains per hour, and really can't add many more. With these service changes, we will get closer to forty five.
  9. ....doink! Should have thought of that. Thanks for the feedback -- just toying around with things.
  10. Strange idea, but what if the late-night was sent to Chambers instead of Whitehall? It'd get it *much* better connections ( , , , , vs / ). The only drawback I see is the confusion factor, but what do y'all think?
  11. I also vote for proposal 1. Broadway is extremely inefficient because trains switch from exp-local in regular service, and that plan would remediate that. It would also give Astorians a guaranteed one seet ride to the Financial District, and in doing so, vastly increase service on the line south of Canal, which may help alleviate congestion on other lines in the area.
  12. Sometime later this year -- see the slide quoted above. Also: excellent finding RRB!
  13. Are you sure about the M7s? I have it from multiple v reliable sources that BBD shipped cars from quebec/plattsburgh to pueblo for testing... (I'm not dumb enough to read wiki as if it's fact don't worry)
  14. Mildly off topic, but what's with the public speakers at MTA board meetings. Most of the ones who aren't from an organization seem to be such a joke... Lots of name calling directed towards MTA officials, endless whining, and holding of grudges...
  15. I don't understand. You are reducing the two useful services -- and -- to make way for something that serves literally no purpose. NO ONE will use transfers at Queens Plaza. It gets you Broadway, sure, but you already have the , and covering midtown, and let's face it, few riders will plan their commutes around the given its unreliability, and even fewer will opt for a walk outdoors. Get over it. And even worse, you're screwing Eastern Queens riders while doing it by moving their s to the express track, forcing them to transfer, creating roosevelt v2. You can't plan subway service because it's cool or it's novel, or you miss a service pattern. The time for on Queens Boulevard has passed. Pragmatism must rule, not romanticism.
  16. Yes. They actually forgot to include a PTC locker in the specs so they're adding them now... Oh the MTA...
  17. I am pretty sure the M8 arrangement was special -- all other locomotives/EMUs that I can think of were Puebloed. Silverliner Vs, M9s, M7s, ALP-45/46s...
  18. ....And also messes up and service with terminating trains.
  19. Nope you're right. The Pueblo tests are to make sure the cars meet standards, but once certified, other cars of the same type don't have to test.
  20. Apologies -- was late and I was abbreviating. I also vote for leaving QB alone, sending to 96th, and expanding service. Any that can't turn at whitehall should go to some SBK terminal -- 4th ave local is begging for more service, and there's been space for more ever since the brown was nixed.
  21. Eh probably not. There are no skipped stops for riders until after Midtown, and those going to FiDi would have to get a local anyway so...
  22. Second avenue will be fine. It's only 6tph. That's one train per track every 20 minutes. Also, that's a recognizable service pattern. D to Barclays/2nd Ave has been done before.
  23. Yeah. Also will have to cross the local track to get to the 11th st cut.
