The real issue is that the MTA can run 50+ tph on weekdays on the busiest trunk lines but there's a hard cap of 20 on weekends. If 30 was the upper limit, every service could run on the weekends and the subway wouldn't be losing as much ridership to the rideshare companies.

Fortunately, this will be a moot point once the (R) is permanently taken off QBL.

The switch between interlining and deinterlining is pretty unusual, at least for most of these plans as it does cause confusion to have terminals switch on a large scale, biweekly basis. Running all services over the weekends is also a bit extra, especially if ridership losses serve as it's only justification.

I have a story to share about something I’ve observed for a year now. There is a door on the Queens-bound platform at Rockaway Avenue (C) that has been ROUTINELY vandalized on a daily basis. The culprit always advertises wanting to perform a sexual act on someone, followed by leaving their number at the bottom. It gets wiped each morning, only to reappear again that very night without fail. It’s gotten so bad that the MTA gave that door a fresh coat of paint, only for the message to reappear like a pimple on prom night. I don’t know whether to be creeped out or impressed at the dedication.

Certainly odd to say the least. Reminds me of how subway cars were vandalized with graffiti on a daily basis back in the 80's.

labor cost is the problem.I mean that we dont want people to work 16hr/day for 365 days(just kidding) to change the route bullet LEDs which are kind of useless now. And they are also too small to see with full-colors. I still prefer to see those on the 46s/68s instead of those on 32s/160s.

The front ones on the R46 and R68 are fine and have been for years now, no need to change it. The 32s are too old to need them now, but at least being able to distinguish color on the 142-179s helps a lot at rush hour. They’re also dirt cheap anyways.

Adding this would be utterly foolish, as the need is to get people between the street and the trains as efficiently as possible (while passing through fare control).

I honestly don't know if that "acorn stairlift" type thing will work, but I will say that if it did, it likely wouldn't be going in a super high ridership station that demands that people must get through it as quickly as possible. This would belong in a smaller to moderate station whose area (population wise) is little served by accessibility, where it could have it's uses as people don't need to move too efficiently. Anything bigger than that, and the elevators the way to go, no debate there.

The bridge boat traffic is under the control of the US Coast Guard, not the city or the MTA. It's a navigable channel. Boat traffic gets priority.

That makes sense. I was always under the belief that this was the tight control of the city.

The bridge still needs to be upgraded or replaced in my opinion, make it faster for both boats and trains to pass through.

Would it be possible to close the bridge full-time for a few months to fix it? Given the low ridership in the Rockaways you could run a shuttle ( (H) ) between Mott and RPK with a free shuttle bus between B90th and BC.

You could also go further and cut service back to Howard Beach and rehab the first bridge as well.

I could see both the former option happening realistically and I support it, it has happened many times before and people deal with it good enough. The latter option may come a little bit later eventually since that bridge is fine.

Why not just ban marine traffic during rush hour?

That sounds like a legal nightmare frankly between the (MTA) and the city, it'll take years for that idea to pass in the area (if at all). I'd focus on making the raising and closing process of the bridge quicker and/or more reliable for now, or raising it higher.

Cleaning cars cost MONEY.  That's what it comes down to.

Theres a point reached where these dirty cars can affect reliability and viruses passing around. For the funds the (MTA) has, they can certainly do better on this.

the bridge the train uses is in a state of disrepair and still needs to be raised every so often for marine traffic

IMO this is an issue people undermine when talking about (A) problems. This bridge being raised can chain react train issues way down the longest line in the subway system by dozens of minutes at a time, and you better have some cojones riding the (A) in bad weather when the bridge frequently breaks down.

Not against boat movement, but the bridge needs to be upgraded or fixed for any train service along it to improve.

It'd be exceedingly easy to create one, provided you know how to use illustrator. All the tph data is public, and train lengths are common knowledge. I may give it a shot...

Absolutley, I’ll see and try if I can make some maps as well somewhere down the road, though I do have limited time. Inkscape is another good alternative to Adobe Illustrator thats free also which may come in handy.

Other than that, this is an amazing idea so far, cant wait to see where it goes @RR503. Keep it up!

Not even worth it... riders will most likely have to transfer to either the Q35 or (A)(S) anyway and considering how long the commute times are there, it would probably just be better to drive/take a cab.

Indeed they don't really need city buses, I have friends on Breezy point and most of them just drive anyways or get driven. There isn't any local bus or subway advocacy there. Most that want to take transit drive or ride a shuttle bus to the QM16, and that's fine for them in a forthright sense.

But no worries. We know the (MTA) is on top of it, and you sir are necroposting. <_< I guess a few of us aren’t (MTA) apologists...

You're not necessarily an (MTA) apologist for every little opinion you have in favor of the agency. (restating the point) The issue is obviously being addressed as many will be caught so it's pointless to freak out at this stage unless hard evidence surfaces to prove they are not, which frankly could happen. Though I wouldn't begin to over speculate like this.

    New ideas:

    (T)(K)(P) on SAS (K)(P) Express (T) Local.

Elaborate on the SAS express ideas further, the locals shouldn't be long rides anyways and that would be harder to operate and build. Especially if these lines branch out.

    (T) from 125 Bway to Cambria Heights/Springfield Blvd via Atlantic Ave and Archer Ave

Southeastern Queen lines would work technically, but currently at least. Costs to construct and nearby bus options are both plentiful enough to mainly discourage it. If you had to do this though, I'd go with the (E) or (J)(Z) to route instead.

(K)(P) replace (B)(D) in Brooklyn, (B)(D) move to Willamsburg and the (V) is restored, or the (R) becomes the sole local on QBL.

Cant speak much on this one, though I do want to hear how'll you'll deal with managing service and frequencies on all the lines with this, since it is a lot of padded extra runs.

    (K) service replaces the (W) in Astoria and the Astoria Line is extended to Bell Blvd/LIE.

    Why? For what reason?

    (P) service will run to The Rockaways via Bypass.

I don't see much ridership and service potential for the Rockaways, even if hooks with SAS.

(E)(F) extended in Queens, (6)(7) to NJ.

Acceptable first point, but I wouldn't send the subway to NJ until they got their political and social situations worked out alongside us. Additionally, what purpose is there to sending specifically the (6)? Haven't heard that one before...

    (hopefully) Constructive responses in red

  13. @whz1995 The WillyB has been underutilized for years due to speed restrictions as we have mentioned, so seeing bikers win is little surprising at this point, and the side effect of years of operational inefficiency.

*Additionally, this discussion on the (M) train and WillyB should probably be moved to the random thoughts or proposals thread. This thread is for R179 developments when it gets back on topic.

What are your favorite New York bridges, tunnels and roads/streets, please?

    Thanks for asking,

Bridges - Brooklyn, Verrazano and Marine P. bridges, I dunno about Tappan Zee

Tunnels - Queens Midtown and Steinway (not amazing, but I find both somewhat rustic and bustling)

Roads/streets - Liberty Av. and Lefferts Blvd. (I with family visit many shops and the Q10 along there). And the Stillwell Av. area, I also like some of the scenic streets of Inwood and Riverdale, many I can list off the top of my head.

    What are yours?
