It really sucks when you have these kids that don't know how to act. At least with new "explanations of the service changes" people would be more woke and not just blame the MTA for these delays.

Nahhhhhh, we should always blame the MTA for everything! Its clearly not like the kids havent had developed brains yet. Lets let them complain and farebeat our system with Airpods stuck in their ears!

I would say SAS should have a Northern Blvd subway, an Atlantic Ave Superexpress, 3 ave line, maybe Rockaway Beach Branch superexpress

I'd say we should already focus on phase 2, 3, 4 more at this point considering how limited funds are to begin with. We could try fixing out of city lines/problems without these costly expansions.

I'll add this. Brooklyn needs another route to JFK (say from the Marine Park area) to compliment the B15, and a new Downtown Brooklyn to LaGuardia SBS route.

The (G) to Court Square, transfer to the (E) to Jackson Heights to transfer to either the Q70 LaGuardia Link or Q47 would be too much for Brooklyn customers that could use a B80 SBS that would go non-stop in Queens across the Kosciuscko Bridge and connect with many Brooklyn North-South routes and Subway lines directly.

Don't wanna come off as cruel (who does?), but crayoning routes all over a bus map for the sake of doing it solves nearly nothing. I don't see how these ideas are needed at all. Put effort into your plans if you actually want something meaningful to happen.

We might as well starve the troll I guess...

I disagree with improving a small amount of people's commute comment , it can improve north south travel in queens , shouldn't be forcing people onto buses

My point is that RBB shouldn't be reactivated into a subway on the purpose of a specific sob story of a commute where a subway must exist between two major urban points. I totally believe that forcing people onto buses is a bad idea and that this subway helps to solve that problem. But in this case, this person is begging for a better commute when there are many options right in front of them (all of which 5x better than control route above). None of them are perfect, but at least attempt to adapt before you complain...

    Is this guy correct

Absolutley not, he could just take the Q52 before transferring to QBL then the (7) or another bus to get to his destination. Even taking the (A) to (J) to (E) to (7) works better here. Will cost much less even if it may take more time. Supporting any subway expansion or revival shouldnt be hinged on improving 2 guys commutes realistically.

Thing is, with the 179s, there are no glaring differences between these cars and the 160s. While there are cosmetic upgrades and a different propulsion system between the two classes, it's not an entirely new design, unlike what the 211s will be compared to the 160s/179s.

True, but considering the R179’s are running on lines that have been operating at least some age old equipment for years prior. It may make sense to lightly advertise the new features the train has over all the older others.

Oh ok... this 10 car seems to be doing very good so far... I saw a test 8 car yesterday with it signed up as a C... and the LED ring around the Letter C wasn’t lit up... it actually looked better without the ring... wondering if this is a program update ?

More likely a mistake since I have seen with the LED ring there before as well. I don't see why they'd get rid of it unless for testing purposes, which I cannot confirm.

I don't know when this first started: I noticed that the Q22 today has a trip from Far Rock. to the  B.116 St Station by the ferry with another one behind to the Marine Pkwy Bridge point.

It's slowly been like this for almost a year or so. Most Q22's now go to 116 due to service changes likely to save money.

I’d make it 4 tracks or so to give the (G) a better Terminal.

Does the (G) really need to go all the way to Astoria though? I'm gonna get some criticism for this, but I'd rather send the (G) to 21st (F) as a terminus, or make it a 21st line so you can have an (F) transfer. More subway service as backup to nearby lines, and also be a cheaper and more long-term alternative to BQX.

I thought I heard somewhere that SmartTrip is being phased out. Does anyone have any info on whether this is true or not?

I don't recall that being announced as of now, do you have a resource by chance where you got this? Maybe you got it mixed up with SmartLink Grey...

MetroCard will be phased out. The new system will be OMNY.

I am not sure about the PATH Smart Link card.

Indeed, OMNY is the new payment form. The existing SmartLink could remain alongside or integrated with OMNY, but for now I think we'll have to wait and see.

It would be nice in the summer if 1 set of 10 car R179's run on the rock pk shuttle between rockaway blvd and b116th st. That would be nice.

I'd be more likely running from Rock Bvld. to B116 since that trip has higher ridership to justify using a 10 car set.

It doesn't make sense for that lone 10-car R179 trainset to have a mechanical failure because I'm 100% positive that whenever it goes out of service for the day, it is in the shop being repaired or inspected.

That's exactly what happened when a window was cracked on the 10 car set the first day it was in service. And when a bag hit the 8 car set on it's first few days of service

We have quite a few riders in my group that have been taking the express bus for 20-30 years, and they all say that service is worse under the (MTA) compared to the private lines. Can’t say I disagree either.

I can't speak for the private lines personally (since I've never ridden one), but I have taken the QM17 and QM16 a few times here and there, and service has gradually gotten worse overtime with (MTA). Mainly, it takes longer to get into Queens and vice versa by a longshot on average due to delays and issues. That's unacceptable to have trips nearing 2+ hours or even more considering our distance to Manhattan and back to Queens.

If you're going to make a schedule, make sure you can run ALL trips. Something here and there is understandable but everyday? It's like the (MTA) unofficially eliminated those trips (5:30 and 6:30) and forgot to change the schedules online. People plan their commutes with these buses. I feel like the (MTA) doesn't want to operate certain express bus routes. If the (MTA) doesn't want to operate a route, give it to someone else to operate, not run piss-poor service and then cut service because it "lost ridership".

The (MTA) really needs to get better with coordinating schedules, changes, trips like these. Not having a certain bus trip run for sometimes weeks is downright insane, and this must be brought up at a board meeting or something. I don't know who else would operate certain express bus routes though these days and if they'd be a good idea or not.

The R42’s rarely come out on the (J)(Z) nowadays based on my observations

I really hope they make trips on the (A) and (C) (likely sporadically). I'd love to take HD photos of them before the MTA rightfully bids them farewell in the coming years.

Anyways? Still no decision on R42 assignment as of now?

    (H) Far Rock to 116

Ignoring the fact that this is not a station extension, I'd like to point out that ridership on this line would be very low. The temporary (S) running last year had bare minimum ridership across the Hammels Wye, only riders from Manhattan from the (A) train. The sandy (H) also relied on riders usually taking the (A). You can just take the Q22 instead which is not overloaded by any chance; maybe slower, but with higher frequency and reliability. The subways should be utilized to get off and on the peninsula, not through it.

I have thought of a few short extensions (1 to 2 stations) that could have the greatest benefit. What extensions can you guys think of that fall under this condition? I will share mine after I hear your thoughts.

    Two I thought of:

    (M) to Jewel Av. and Main Street

    (L) to Hudson Yard, new stops at 23rd and 34th St.

  17. I don't get this either, apparently the front page of mta.info has a regular translator at the bottom for other languages, nice. Google Translate is also used, however, new.mta.info only has Google Translate, which compared to regular, doesn't translate everything properly and has a bad rap for it's abilities. I use english-spanish usually and it's serviceable surely for some text, but it doesn't always precisely work on all text (especially on articles) and is inconsistent. I can't imagine it being precise for a more difficult language like Mandarin. Bad design that the (MTA) should address.

Why don't the uptown signs say "125th street" with a "96" sticker over the 125? That way they can just peel off the sticker when phase 2 is complete.

The peel will wear off with time and discovery of it's presence. Plus, phase 2 isn't due for another ~10 years anyway.

I have a huge issue with farejumping now. I am surprised at how kids at Stuy HS (a specialized high school for the gifted kids) are literally farejumping at Chambers St on the IRT! Like wtf these kids have student MetroCards and it’s free for them! And they still don’t pay their f**king fare! I don’t want to rant like this but I would like the MTA to get at least one f**king police or student to watch and be able to arrest farejumpers. This is 100% bulls**t!

    Well...

    1. Students cannot arrest fare evaders, the few that want to do that job in the first place have little power over criminals. A larger form of police staffing has been done before, transit police IIRC.

    2. Any school (prestigious or not) has it's share of fare evaders, just like drug addicts, and wrongdoers (and vice versa). I don't expect Stuyvesant to be exempt from this so it's little of any surprise. Why they are actually doing this specifically, is a more notable concern. ex. For more rides? Broken or no card?

    3. Farebeating is unjustifiable, but if the city and (MTA) want to keep paying for Student MetroCard's, they best make sure they have other priorities sorted out, and farebeating is one getting worse and worse and worse while nothing is done, I could go on.

  20. @Abba Emergency brake application? (Not counting training)

If so, it is certainly possible considering that those events are usually rare. Of course, he may be lying as well, but in general, T/O's typically don't witness them as timers/speed limits/safety have been in place for many years.
