  1. Instead of sending select rush hour s to 179th, why not send them to 96th?
  2. That's insane. Why have a shuttle, which costs a lot of money to build, maintain, and operate, which has a weird and complex service pattern with the possibility of causing delays, when you can just have a pedestrian tunnel which is functional 24/7 365 days a year. The train would only be able to get their maybe 90 seconds faster on a good run considering the curves and switches that it would need to traverse, not to mention the time spent waiting in the station for it to come.
  3. This is just out of control. The really needs to rethink their sick passenger protocols.
  4. Isn't the Viaduct supposed be completed by the end of this month?
  5. I suppose you would have room but to FH71 is a stupid route.
  6. No surprise here, we all know that the well connected labor unions are mining gold in the tunnels of our train system, but the is more wrong with the than unions alone. I'd take everything on that website with a grain of salt. I don't really think anything can be done about unions without a serious shakedown up in Albany, but it's nice to see that it's getting some public attention.
  7. Hindsight is 20/20. As much as I don't like defending the , there was no way they could have known that it was going to be this bad. What other options are there besides rush them into service? They absolutely need operating in a significant capacity on the Eastern Division by the time the Canarsie shutdown happens, and IIRC the shutdown really can't be pushed back any further than it already has.
  8. No Coney-Island bound service on the Manhattan bridge because of "track replacement." TRACK REPLACEMENT Coney Island-bound (and ) trains run via the from Canal St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr Also and service is swapped in Brooklyn.
  9. Only semi-related but the Tokyo metro uses half-height PSDs in many stations with great success. Maybe we can expect third avenue to look something like this.
  10. I was referring to the service status box on the left side of the page, that appears blank on my screen.
  11. How could you tell the motors were dead? Not doubting you genuinely want to know.
  12. Is http://alert.mta.info/ not working for anyone else?
  13. Yes! 3 times I've been waiting for a while an r179 pulls up going the wrong direction.
  14. I think the Coumo treatment is perfect for the 42nd street . It's such a short ride so standing isn't that big of a deal, and it helps squeeze a few extra passengers during the rush. There really aren't that many downsides. Also the is crowded at most times so the chances of getting a seat anyway are pretty slim, I prefer to go in the Cuomo car if it's busy because there are always fewer people. Cuomo treatments on the and are another story.
  15. That's going to be one hell of a project given the mess of track that is Downtown Bklyn. I'm not even sure something like that would be possible (given current tech) without any serious demolition.
  16. It's a bit of a hike between the Fulton to Atlantic, but I think they should implement an OOS transfer during the Canarsie shutdown. It's pretty criminal how many transfers the misses.
  17. I wonder what's causing all these signal problems on the .
  18. This sounds really weak to me. T/Os should be expected to run trains on time while also doing it safely, this guy is speaking as though it were mutually exclusive. If it actually is not possible to be safe while operating in a timely manner then timetables should be adjusted, but I don't really buy this dude's argument.
