  1. Thank you for your input brother. Yeah, the practical was surprisingly easy, but I think it was because my TSS' really drilled the procedure into us and had us run all aspects of the practical in multiple dry runs. If the signal test contains the signals that I'm assuming, then I'm not worried at all, all that remains to be done is to keep studying and take the test.
  2. I saw the list they have to fill out, it’s a long list lol. Olivet was mad chill with us.
  3. Lol nice. To be honest, the hardest signals are the miscellaneous signs. You can read a light if you know what each light signifies, but the signs you just have to memorize the definition.
  4. I can’t say indefinitely since I haven’t taken mine yet, but from what I’ve been told by upperclassmen, and from studying signals per my TSS’ instruction, it’s supposed to be a breeze. If you put in the work, pay attention, and study, it’s light work.
  5. Yeah I guess he toned it down for y’all because he isn’t instructing you guys. During my dry run, he hit me with everything and the kitchen sink in terms of sabotaging the train.
  6. Yeah man, it was cake. I heard that this was supposed to be the hardest one too.
  7. Everybody in my class crushed the practical! Congrats to my TB-12 brethren. @LIRRMedford how’d you guys do?
  8. Thanks bro. Good luck to you as well! We’re in CIY now just studying a bit before the practical. Our proctors are TSS’ Lois and Oliver (yes, your Oliver). You have one of our TSS’, Khan. He’s a bit of a hardass, but he’s fair. Just do your thing and don’t drink the koolaid.
  9. I heard that like 5 ppl got G2’s already for the new induction for lateness. Better tighten those times up, TA doesn’t play with time. Good luck to all the new TO classes! I saw y’all in the gym. Stay off your phones lol.
  10. It’s been more than a month and we’re still reporting at 0700. Road days we report at 0900 and different training sessions (fire school) we reported at 1500. We will have varying report times when we start YX and our Road Ops schedule. For the most part, school car is 0700 - 1500.
  11. Oh shit, I was there too! It's not my fault! Wait, which one were you? And don't say "the tall one", all ya'll are tall.
  12. Hey pal, how’s it going? I’m glad to hear that you’re doing much better! I’m sure you’re gonna knock that practical out of the park. Which class are you in again?
  13. Hope to see you on the road as well in the future! Just work hard and pay attention, you’ll be fine. I wouldn’t say that I’m the most helpful on the forum, but I appreciate your kind words. Good luck!
  14. The parking isn’t bad around the school. There’s a lot of alternate side parking, so pay attention to the signs. It’s in a residential area so you can find a spot within a 1-2 block radius.
  15. He was just nervous about the whole job and whatnot. He was the youngest out of my entire class (like 21-23) and was obsessing over the smallest things. He eventually just said it was too much and quit. IOD is an injury on duty. You’re not gonna be looked at any different for having that bag. Just bring everything. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. It’s not much until you get your training manuals. Enjoy the light bag for now.
  16. Haven’t completed yet, but I’m about to take my first practical next week. It’s all about how much time and effort you invest into the process. I’ve been going maximum effort the whole time and nothing in particular is too hard to grasp. The TSS’ *want* you to pass. It makes them look good if you do well. My class has lost 2 people so far; one who was freaking out during orientation, and a second one that got IOD. Good thing is, the second one will most definitely end up in one of your classes later on. Look for the guy who seems to know everything up to the first practical already, that’ll be him lol.
  17. R32/42 = Odd - O for Oxygen (Has Compressor) / Even - E for Electricity (Has Converter) R46 = B (Odd cars) do not have Compressors, only the highest numbered Odd car in a unit might have a Compressor if needed. R68/68A = Lowest Odd numbered car in a unit does not have a Compressor. Meaning 6 compressors in an 8-car consist. I'm also a bit weak on circuit breakers, but that's what I've been drilling myself on.
  18. Rendon’s the f**king man. “It ain’t rocket science.” He’s got everybody in my damn class saying that lol. I’d rather not try his moonshine/elixir/love potion, though I do admit I’m curious. Khan basically told us he was a rookie though. He’s only been with the TA like 5 years and he was a TO for 4 years.
  19. Yeah, you can tell he’s a rookie since he’s not as patient, but overall he’s very knowledgeable and a pretty good instructor. The only complaint is that he can be intimidating to the weaker students, which doesn’t help.
  20. Nah, it’s Rivera. Roberto is his partner this time around. Both Roberto and Rivera are awesome dudes. I have Khan and Rendon, both just as good, Khan has a lack of patience though lol.
  21. Lol that’s weird. I was in the conductors position on the whole way back down, you should’ve seen me. Maybe I was studying with my classmate and didn’t poke my head out of the cab that time.
