  1. Why in the world would Jamaica be losing the cars that would be needed for Queens Blvd CBTC...
  2. Isn't it a turnbridge? Also, I know that they just brokered a deal to limit traffic through the Portal Bridge, so it's not an impossible idea.
  3. Which circles right back to the new deep cleaning program We're basically saying "gee, it sucks stuff isn't being cleaned" in response to the fact that they're cleaning more stuff in more thorough ways now. Hopefully they'll keep this up and expand the deep cleaning to more cars and stations. 33 St on the definitely looks great – someone mentioned it got a deep clean and it really looks like it's 15 years newer from its prior renovation.
  4. I think the normal car washes are basically a souped-up car wash; things like graffiti smears on stainless steel (I don't know how to describe it, but the spots on cars where paint was obviously cleaned off) as well as steel dust buildup and other grime probably penetrate deeper and are harder to clean than a simple wash. Also, it seems like they got some new end bonnets as well
  5. I believe it's part of another 4-car set at ENY that was awaiting its arrival. I think for some reason 3070-73 was delayed and held back instead of coming in a while ago when the rest of the 30XX cars arrived
  6. Wasn't part of the whole congestion pricing thing part of a reform package for the MTA (to what degree we'll see, given that it's Cuomo of course)
  7. Mind if I use this data for a term paper I'm writing for school about the subway system's downfall in the 70s and 80s? I've been looking for nice ridership data that extends before the 70s as well as after, and this is a holy grail for me with how specific it is!
  8. I still doubt most motorists would instantly go to farebeating. Definitely not a 1:1 ratio; if anything I'd assume a pretty good turnover from cars to transit.
  9. Assuming they move to other modes of transport (public...transport...even?), that revenue could very will just become fare revenue. That's the brilliance of it – you have an alternative in place so that if people are so discouraged from driving, they'd take a train or a bus (which we have lots of). These people likely still need to travel into the city, and if even a small fraction of the drivers decide to simply change their lifestyle, a vast majority still either will pony up the fee, or will switch to another mode of transit.
  10. They split service into two sections, which meant trains couldn't come from Westchester, so the Manhattan segment (149-GC to City Hall) had equipment from Jerome, as well as a few R62As which I assume were moved downtown before the weekend began.
  11. Really funny since the would have the normal M34 - 33 St announcement for late nights, wouldn't it...and the had that transfer before it lost the R142As, didn't it?
  12. So I was riding an R142 on the , and heard something...very interesting, to say the least, at 33 St. Any ideas?
  13. What work would be happening to split the into two sections this weekend? Given that trains run to 125th Street in one section, and past it on the express tracks on the other section, where would they be actually working that would require this split?
  14. Feels like one of those gates you see on r/CrappyDesign or something that could easily be opened by a thief. Sure, it's not going to stop determined folks, but to a casual person who's just taking the opportunity, the presence of a gate itself (or in this case the fare evasion warnings) could be a good enough deterrent to at least curb some fare evasion.
  15. Wow! Just curious, what would happen if a passenger went to the front window? Would they get yelled at by the T/O (or would one be not even allowed to step in to begin with lest they be haggled by an irked employee)
  16. Anyone have a pic of this? I'm not really understanding what's being described and I've never seen what (at least I think) is being described.
  17. Saw the G/O being for a split from 149-GC to Brooklyn Bridge. Would that mean we could see both R142As and R142s on the in Manhattan?
  18. I saw this at least back in late February. While it sure doesn't look good I find it...kinda interesting to see the station practically gutted while still being open. A peek behind the curtain of sorts, IMO
  19. I posted a nice video of the 7 at sunset, and someone even joked when I mentioned appreciating the subway, saying "What would this sub do if it couldn't comment "tHaT pRoBaBlY sMeLlS lIkE pIsS" every day"
  20. I think there's a way to report inaccurate map data. Maybe under feedback?
  21. An R188 7 local at 74 St-Broadway reflecting a beautiful sunset.
  22. Did they just like...pop off? Or was the train just running without them and all of a sudden went BIE?
  23. I feel like that's also a thing for visually impaired people, no? Same as the crosswalks that have noise indicators and buttons to alert people when it's safe to cross.
  24. I remember the NYT did an article from at least a decade ago on this coincidence, but they definitely didn't go into as much detail for the reason as to why. I really liked the casual explanation of how the inverters work, and how they make the sound, since I never really grasped that before. I've also come to like the ONIX sounds more in the past few months – when the HVAC is off I like hearing the motors whirring up along with the inverters on the R160s.
