  1. I hope these cars get preserved whenever they are done being used as garbage train motors.
  2. I wonder what the buyer plans to do with it. Also about the the Redbirds, why were none preserved like some of the other retired trains?
  3. I found these videos a few months ago and wanted to share them. Someone used a magnetic coil to record propulsion on the NTTs. I think it sounds quite interesting. R142A/R143/R188 R160B Siemens R142/R160A/R160B Alstom Edit: R179
  4. Yes. But on all the NTTs, the friction brakes still screech when they apply. (either when the dynamics fade out at low speed or a motor is dead) Examples: A B C or anytime a train comes to a final stop.
  5. I know this is unrelated to the current topic, but why are the friction brakes on the NTTs so bad? You know a train with dead motor is coming from a mile away due to the insane brake screech. Are the friction brakes just not maintained well?
  6. That picture makes me wonder about what equipment is used to record announcements and add them to the program on the trains. I meant to ask that earlier as I also don't know if they did that. They better keep that. Imagine the outrage among transit fans if they changed it.

  9. The runs R142s and R142As. Or they can do what I suggest and put FIND screens in the R142s and R142As. The absolutely bleeds money and their leadership needs to be gutted. They get barely anything done for ridiculous amounts of money. Just look at the Second Avenue Subway, or the rollout of CBTC which was supposed to have been long complete over the whole subway according to some thread I forgot. That would have been ideal, but I bet the will wait until those car types are falling apart like the R46 to order their replacements.
  10. The 42nd Street shuttle also runs 6 car R62As and it will be getting R262s. Can the MTA not add some more 5 and 6 car trains for the 7 line. Also you and should post your thought in the actual R262 thread. P.S: How do you type the route bullets?
  11. Maybe. I wonder if the MTA has recorded them yet, or possibly back when the first NTTs were made, as they made announcements for all the subway lines even if they don't use NTTs.
  12. What does any one think the R211 SIR announcements will sound like? Subway style or LIRR/MNRR style?
  13. What kind of signals does the SIR use? I assumed the same as the subway but never really though about it. Also I have never seen an SIR R44 cab.
  14. Yeah, everyone says the problems stem from the Adtranz propulsion.
  15. The R68/A’s are not going to be retired soon, as they still have about 10 years of useful life left, and are more reliable than the R46. It has also been discussed that even with all the options, the R211’s will not be enough to replace the R68/A’s.
  16. I am not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but I noticed another difference between the R142 and R142A. They both have different door open light positions on the inside. On the R142, it is above the doors, while on the R142A, it is to the side of the doors. Also: I don't think so anytime soon.
  17. Thank you for telling me this, I will take that into account now. I did not mean for my comment to come across as rude. Also I did not mean to derail the hole topic, lets get back to discussing the R211.
  18. Tell me how soon you thin this will happen. The CBTC rollout has been very slow so far, and I don't expect it to be sped up anytime soon.
  19. I mean, is that really our problem, we are not the ones operating the trains.
  20. The MTA would have to reprogram the traction/brake controls on the R142A's or go the easy route of telling the operates to wait between releasing the brakes and applying power.
