  1. I thought the MTA never used that functionality.
  2. I am just saying that the MTA should start the process sooner rather than later, knowing how long the process of procuring new subway cars takes. I hope they don't wait until the R68s are falling apart to replace them.
  3. What is this, I see it here a lot. Send them to the NYTM! /s
  4. The R262 and R268 will replace the last SMEEs. They are still in the planning phase, but IMO I think the order for those cars should be further underway considering how long the process of getting new subway trains takes.
  5. Why would any subway buff want to even become a train operator?
  6. Will the transit museum get dibs on a R46 set?
  7. Why is this thread labeled as Systemwide CBTC when CBTC is not even planned to cover the whole subway system?
  8. Slightly off topic, but will the NYTM receive a R46 set when they get retired?
  9. The R142 has some differences from the R142A that might complicate reusing the R188 design, most notably the propulsion. I also think and R211 style FIND LCD screens and exterior side LED signs should be added as part of a refurbishment.
  10. is the internal NYCT designator for the Rockaway Park Shuttle.
  11. There have even been multiple proposals to connect it by a tunnel to the subway system. Off topic, but my city (Houston Texas) is building a large BRT network, but a few people think a city of 2 million people (7 million in the greater urban area) should be building heavy rail for some reason.
  12. The TA should have used the current staff shortage as a reason to convince the union to allow systemwide OPTO Some systems outside of the U.S. have them. They answer questions and guide passengers during rush hour. And on the MTR, platform conductors even control the doors instead of the driver during peak times.
  13. I still don't get why people think NYC is so special that it needs to have conductors on all the subway trains. London and Paris have old systems but have been using one person operation for over 20 years!
  14. Will they even get set up for CBTC anytime soon?
  15. I still do this as I don't know what things deserve their own threads.
  16. It would still likely be quite expensive to retrofit any kind of CBTC equipment onto a SMEE. (That is why the R62/As and R68/As will not get the technology installed.) Only small sections of the system are currently using CBTC and the rollout of new sections is going very slow. (I would love it if the MTA could get their act together and speed up the roll out.) Also, the CBTC equipped sections all receive a new backup fixed block system that is currently used for work trains, and will likely be used for museum trains in the future.
