    I’m gonna say self defense

I agree, article says they assaulted him first. The issue here is he had an stolen gun and at work at that. One news story said the B/O had an criminal record and how did he get hired in the first place. Didn't really like that as they are trying to paint the driver as the bad guy that shot innocent little kids. I'd bet my last dollar that those teens started with him first.

I know this question was answered before somewhere but why are a lot of the NG’s being retired so fast? I know they are all at retirement age technically since they are 12 and older but we still have even older Orion VII OG’s still in service.

Does it have something to do with their batteries or were they just poor in quality from the start?

From what I read on here it's a combination of low MDBF, electrical and suspension issues that's causing the early demise of all these NG Hybrids.

At the time, I was in the unit, and I told the operator about why it it sounded different. He told me that it was at the Cummins service station, and its transmission was replaced.

There has been random ENY XD40s that sounded odd in the interior recently, I just chalked it up as the B/O having the bus shifted into an different gear.

The B/Os even know the difference between Allsion and ZF transmissions? Like at depots that operate buses with both (Like JG and WF for example) do they even know the C40s and XN40 have different transmissions but the same engine. I always got the feeling that if it's not relevant to their job title, B/Os don't care about that type of stuff. Seems more like an concern for the mechanics.

  3. They also did an soft opening for the electrification extension to Ronkonkoma in the 80s, three trains in the AM and three trains in the PM, full service was added later on. IDK the back story as to why they did it that way.

I think they only doing this shuttle service opening just to say the station opened in 2022  Politicians really wanted to meet this 2022 opening for ESA. Measly shuttle service to open such an major service expansion is just so underwhelming.  Part of me wanted them to push back the opening so the terminal can get full service right out the gate, however the other part of me can't wait to ride an train to GCM!

  4. A NJT Bus op shot at three teens WHILE AT WORK who assaulted him. He had an stolen Glock 9.

I side with the OP not because hes a transit employee but because he handed an L to one of these knucklehead teens who always be starting shit with adults.

  5. Out of the 2011 buses the 4800 XD40s have the best seating configuration in the rear. The rear seating configuration in the Novas & 3G sucks for tall people unless you sit in the very last row.

To an outsider in terms of build quality, etc the 3G seems to be the best with but the NG hybrids being scrapped in the masses at such an young age maybe the 3G aren't as good as I thought they was :( I mean we have like around 100 OG Orions left yet they continue to the scrap the newer NGs at an rapid pace.

    This came out today:

    https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2022/12/15/states-senator-gianaris-on-new-legislation-aiming-to-improve-mta-while-balancing-budget

I hope this bill gets passed. This bill needs to also include auditing the MTA to ensure that they are managing their budget efficiently.

There is no doubt that one of the biggest issues with the MTA is that they don't know how to manage the budget. They got billions of dollars from the Federal government and yet service is getting worse. They got the nerve to find lame excuses (like "ridership is low", which is not true) to raise fares and cut service.

Also, they are taking their sweet time to buy new subway cars. The r262's and whatever is replacing the r68's should have been included in this current Capital program.

Notice how service on trains that use r46's have gotten worse. The r46's are breaking down like flies. If delays on the r211 persists, we are going to face a subway car shortage that will cripple the system.

Where in the link do you see the quality of service line by line? I'm curious to see the (Q) as by many that's considered one of the best lines in the system, even prior to R160s taking over the line.

Has anyone else ever had an issue with this cross honoring? Most of the time the conductors don’t even know.

Just show them the service change on your phone if they don't believe you. I always have the page loaded up before I board. It happened to me once, I just showed the C/R the service change on the MTA website and that cleared everything up.

  8. MTA has an official page on Redbubble, random lol

    https://www.redbubble.com/people/mta-ny/shop

There's some cool offerings on there but others are quite bland. Why would someone want to buy a basic T Shirt with only the sign of an random commuter rail station on it and nothing else  The Jackets I see some B/O wearing with different bus models on it are pretty cool but those aren't available to the general public. I wonder why they never sell clothing with rolling stock on it, does it have to do the manufacturer of these vehicles owning the rights to the design or something?

Why are trains going over bridges (e.g., B/D/N/Q on the Manhattan Bridge) severely limited by their speed? Other systems (e.g., PATCO in Philadelphia) have no problems running their trains over bridges at high speeds. I figured someone on here might know a concrete answer.

The trains have steep inclines on both ends of the bridge. Trains are slower going uphill and one end of the Bridge (Brooklyn) you have DeKalb junction and the curves on the Manhattan end.

WillyB Manhattan bound before you get to the grade timers is as good as you gonna get in regards to speed on a bridge in NYCT.

I remember back then the artic fleet for Flatbush depot was close to being all XD-60s. Later on, they received LFSAs from Quill. Was it a short swap or to another reason?

Reason I remember being given on here is that one of the XD60 batches are sluggish with the A/C on so FLA got the Nova artics so the Artic fleet at FLA won't be full of underpowered buses.

Surprised FLA has that kind of pull where they can convince the DOB to give them an oddball fleet of buses for THAT reason.

  11. I don't think that post about scrapping the R179 was meant to be taken literal, probably a T/O who had an bad day operating a 179 in the rain yesterday  I do wonder if they finally figured out how to have the NTT have good braking performance in the rain/snow with the R211 fleet. All NTT fleets have poor braking in the rain. I wonder if the TA shop forces ever tried to "adjust" them.

  12. Eliminating the (B) and (Z) is a no go. No way the (Q) could handle Brighton by itself on weekdays and the (Z) , the headways would stay the same if the Z was cut so you'd save no money.

Also its impossible for a (G) train terminate on the outer tracks at Hoyt because the crosstown line tracks doesn't connect to the outer tracks at Hoyt.

Its been discussed on railfan spaces online to cut the (W) back when SAS first opened, and those in favor of keeping the (W) say its needed for capacity reasons on the Astoria Line during rush hours.

  13. Do you even ride the (L) line to propose cutting it back to 10 minute headways? The line has rush hour like crowds whenever it runs on 8 minute headway on weekends due to G.Os and we have posters on here suggesting that they extend the midday & weekend (L) headway. It's sometimes SRO WITH the 4-5 minute headway off peak.

The 103 got sent to the gulag..

Yeah, I expected the route to be split. That interactive map is a mess but if I understanding this correctly, All off peak SC express is proposed to get cut? Seems like the whole SC depot got hit hard by these proposed changes.

Is it true they are bringing back the B5 to replace the B11?
