  1. I just got word from a T/O i know that theres an internal memo stating that Sunday will be the first day. Lets see what happens @Around the Horn i was just reminded of this on FB. Thank you. I had a feeling i could be wrong on that.
  2. My question is, why would they start Revenue testing on the J when there will be a GO this weekend causing the J train to only operate from Jamaica to Hewes St? The usually have them tested during normal service conditions. I dont recall revenue testing ever being done on weekends though. I could be wrong on that.
  3. See, the thing is, its not overblown. Its a projection. I've lived in Rockaway since 1990. Ridership has increased in all of those years and with gentrification, a new housing boom, and businesses opening up down here, ridership has increased in just the last few years alone. I commute to midtown everyday. Between that, and current riders of the bus making the switch, there's going to be the demand if this line opens. You can say "run the M every ten minutes", but there's problems with that 1)terminal capacity at Metropolitan WILL restrict the number of trains ran. 2) Rockaway residents want an express. Then there's the summer factor. And trust when I tell you that during the summer, current trains can rival rush hour crowds easy. Trust me on this man. This isn't a "wally horse" type thing. I lived down here, I commute from here, and I've worked the A line as a C/R. I'm not just spitting out nonsense. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  4. Well this new for me. we never did an OPA for 8094 but I just got mine for the 13th Of October. I remember getting like two or three wrong. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  5. Usually about 15-20 minutes after it ends. But they tend to schedule bit on the fly. There's a TSS posted at 161 to help dispatch.Headways are usually in between regular s/b D trains. Since when? When i worked them in 2014, there was 5 on weekends as well. I would know cause all 5 of us sat in the crew room until the trains started pulling out of Concourse. And they were usually all classmates from school car (Extra-Extras). 5 of us total. Train 1-2nd Ave Train 2-9th ave Bk Train 3-2nd ave Train 4-9th ave or Barclay's Train 5-2nd ave Of course those destinations can change enroute. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  6. But There is a point to having a new route. 1) extending the M makes it a longer line, increasing its chances for it to become inefficient(Look at the R for example). And look at the route as it is now. Extending the M would make the route spiral thru 3 boroughs. 2) this proposed RoW as a subway is to benefit riders and commuters from just south of rego park all the way down to Rockaway. Its not really a "service improvement" but a whole new subway routing that will increase ridership since most of us here will use it to northern queens and directly to midtown. Now you can't extend the R because its long enough as it is. And you can't extend the M cause a 480' train won't cut it, especially during the summer months. It has to be a whole new route from Rockaway to Manhattan. 3) interlining: if it goes down 8th ave it will join with the E on QB. If it goes down 6th, it interlines with the M or F, and for Broadway, the R. 4) you also have to think about crews and consists. Times(and pay) on each job. What consists will be available. What yard(s) they'll come out of. And what terminals. Remember, this proposed service will have the terminal capacity for these extra trains on the Rock pk end with maybe possible short turns at JFK. Do you think Met can handle turning more trains around? For better efficiency its best to make it a whole new route where it can terminate in Rockaway/JFK and end at let's say, Second ave/Houston st, which currently isn't a terminal. Extending a current route may seem easier, but the longer the extension, the more difficult it becomes to implement it. Especially when it comes to a route with shorter trains that can't be lengthened. Like the M. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  7. Watch it be a whole new route from rock park to Manhattan. Why? Cause down here, we need a faster route to midtown. Watch such a route go from rock pk, via QB to a terminal in Manhattan. Possibly 2nd Ave-LES. None of this shuttle crap or extending a new route. Remember, train capacity will be increased by the time this line opens Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  8. Here's what I see happening. And remember, the time line for any new subway route from proposal to opening is pretty long. So I always say add a few "future factors" into place when "proposing" new service patters. I always notice how those who plan here forget this. They plan as if its opening tomorrow with our current capacity and service/ridership patterns. I'm always debating with this one guy on FB about RBB service going into the QBL "there's no space" he always says. I always repeat that by the time this line opens, CBTC will most likely be in full effect(along with substation upgrades), allowing for more trains to run, so a new 5th line can indeed be added into the QBL mix. So no, I dont see an extent I on of a current route-be it the G,M,R or even the Rock Pk shuttle. As far as the Queens Bypass, well thats IMO more of a pipe dream than the RBB. But the Queens Bypass was proposed long before current ridership and signal technology available. No need to sacrifice current LIRR mail line service when we have the ability to add to current headways once the new system is installed. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  9. On the D, there's 5 specials. Usually its 1,3 and 5 going to 2 ave/Houston while 2 and 4 go to 9th ave Bk. They find out according to the order when they board their trains. But even enroute its a toss up. They are extra trains and can be sent anywhere, any route, with any stop pattern. So even the crews are never quite sure. Some of them may even return north in service if its needed. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  10. Well whatever happened has that very same set in The Flats right now. 3050-3057 Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  11. Every train encounters issues during the tests. Even a malfunctioning door indication light can cause the test to stop, send the train back to the yard, and reset the clock. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  12. Nope. 1) you answered your own question. The want o be able to split the unit in the shop. 2) if they did consider it, they wouldn't have refitted an R143 to ride around the system taking measurements for the open gangways. 3)less parts, weight is the reason why Consists come in Multi car units now. The last time they tried something "radical" to save weight/parts got us 75' long cars which can't run on the BMT East. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk Nope. 1) you answered your own question. 13. Well I remember the argument being on how most lines never gets new cars. So after a failed 30 day -even a faulty door indication light- is considered a breakdown and will reset the 30 clock- it was moved to the N to please the please the people. You know, the people, who in 2010 found about the V replacing the M along myrtle and not realizing that V or M, the route was going to now go up Sixth Ave. They assumed they were losing their service (all they heard was a discontinuation of the M). And didnt bother to read more. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  14. Technically no. They were straight articulated. Three cars used four trucks. So the connection between cars shared a truck. Open gangway means two separate cars with a wide open interior section between cars while the triplex had basically only a cylinder "hallway" between cars only allowing one person to pass at a time. Now the curves weren't really an issue since the cars didnt "jackknife" on them. They shared a truck so it was basically just like the turntable on articulated buses. Open gangway cars dont share a truck so they will still jackknife needing the articulated portion to not only bend but to also kind of "slide" across each other. Especially when navigating a switch. 15. As far as when the 179s arrive? Or fleet retirement in general. If its the former, my money is on the 68 set first as the 32s come from the C. If its the latter, then of course, the 68s got about 20 more years left in them. But given that we already have one and the others will come in weeks apart, possibly all three will disappear from the A around the same time Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  16. Oh, and as far as the order for Four 10 car sets, its exactly to replace the two 32s and the borrowed 68. You think they wanna borrow that one concourse set every weekday? You think they like those two 32s on a line that has multiple terminals? There's a reason they only ordered 4. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  17. Let's not return to beating a dead horse about the "Rockaway power problems". That was fixed years ago. And iirc, the whole thing about the 160 moving from the A to the N was mostly political. Think about it people: They test these trains out in the Rockaways! The power was increased when they were building the test track. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  18. There won't be any after the 211s come in. Point blank. The 211s will be replacing the 46s. Thats why its such a large order. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  19. RBB would seriously help those of us in the Rockaways who commute to Northern queens and midtown Manhattan. Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  20. The original plan for chrystie when built was to allow SAS, when built, to become "local" tracks at Grand St and converting the side platforms into island platforms. The section of SAS tunnel originally built by the Manhattan bridge was aligned for this. Is this possibly what you're asking about? Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  21. I remember that being one of the first "summer swaps" Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
  22. We can. But the question is is it needed on the C. As a daily rider, I personally dont think so. But I'm not the one who makes the decisions Sent from my LGLS755 using Tapatalk
