  1. Got to ride a train of 41xx cars today (brain usually logs car numbers automatically, no clue what's up today lol). Still lots of kinks to work out, but that's what happens when a new generation hits the rails. Digital ads were off and half the door lights were down. Growing pains, growing pains, I feel you 211
  2. Y'all just makin shit up. HOW is it a setback for it to run on the (C)? The goal is to TEST it to see how it works in the system. Capacity (which is built in, btw) is irrelevant. It has to WORK before all else (which I don't see why it won't).
  3. There are a shitload of PSD types. I'm sure there's one out there suitable for us. And if not, one will have to be made. If the BMT could figure out a subway car design that could work on the demolished Els, something can be figured out for this
  4. No we don't. First of all, 75 foot cars weigh more. Second, an 8 car train of 75-footwrs has 64 doors versus the 80 on 10 60-foot cars. This increases dwell times and contributed to many delays. That's exactly why as soon as the got their 160s, the and were next. Second, if we are to ever get platform screen doors, we need standardized door placement. Third, the ends of 75 foot cars swing at switches. It's fine for systems designed for 75-footers, but our B Division was designed to handle 67-foot cars without mods. That includes BMT East. It took quite a bit of modification for the things to even fit our tunnels. Last, but not least, they cost more to construct and operate. Every extra pound must be built. Every extra pound must be accelerated and braked. Every extra pound costs money.
  5. Tell me you haven't read a thing about speed limits without telling me you've never read a thing about speed limits. In cities, 20-25mph is considered the perfect speed limit. Not only that, but the reduction doesn't really impact travel times. What really affects that is intersection frequency and driver behavior.
  6. Like I needed more existentialist thought today.... Thank you for that lmao (Looking forward to these cars proving to be one of the most successful trains ever made for MTA. That's usually how this goes, right? Issues first, then a lifetime of accolades?)
  7. I'm not surprised the MTA isn't planning the necessary increases that will make this even more successful. A serious agency would have gotten started on that back when it was approved and implemented by now. If I'm right NYC might be the only place where CP is introduced that didn't increase transit beforehand. And it makes absolutely zero sense.
  8. BRT doesn't work in NYC? We don't even have real BRT..... I can definitely see true BRT being used in the outermost fringes, but built in a way that would allow for a tramway upgrade when needed. Think LACMTA Orange Line. Plenty of wide boulevards to do it. (Waiting on the nonsense reasons why it can't be from the echo chamber)
  9. So long as the system ain't too complicated. One of the main reasons for the long delay was the meshing of three different signal systems. I actually have to check and see if the auto-reverse feature west of Paddington is even operational because I completely forgot about it.
  10. The features you mention exist. It's a beta so you likely experienced a big. Transfers already already on the line maps which are like, 3 taps from opening the app. Also, someone is clearly listening to feedback because all spelling errors for hyphenated stations are fixed.
  11. Similar enough designs that it worked. Come on people.... And again, after the 80s, it mostly stopped happening. Hence the DECADES ago... I swear y'all be wanting to be right SO bad
  12. They've already gotten it right, I think. Now it needs tweaks to perfect it. Please read my comment to know my initial thoughts.
  13. One thing I'm loving is that the line maps include common service diversions (2 via Lex and 5 via 7th Ave for example) as well as things like the W to 86th Street. That already makes it leagues better than myMTA. The moment I opened the app, I was sold. The first thing I noticed is you immediately see how far away the closest subways and buses are to you. This should have been a given, especially for bus riders. The first thing I saw when I opened the app was the next 1-3 buses at the closest stops to me. I can tap the stop/direction I want and see the next buses. Then, I tap the specific bus I want and see where it is, what time it'll get to my stop, and when it will reach further stops PLUS what bus transfers I can make. I will be mentioning a need to add subway transfers there. I'll also recommend the same for subways, but since there can be a ton of bus routes, make it a drop-down option under the visible subway transfers. Otherwise, things you would normally have to look for are now, at most, three taps away. Now I can actually decide if I wanna meet the bus and save the 5 minutes to the subway from second one. This is a first impression so I won't have a more concrete opinion until I use it more practically. Good start so far and I can't wait to see how it evolved
  14. Adding to this, the MTA figured out decades ago that trains run far more efficiently when all cars are of the same type. Exceptions have been made. Like N trains made up of 8 R40Ms and 2 42s. Similarly with the 32s and 38s on the A.
  15. The lights are useful. Those with bad vision can better tell the doors are closing. A massive step up from the former yellow lights. ADA, at the end of the day, was the primary focus of car amenities. The problem will be fixed. These things take time and they also have to make sure the fixes don't break anything else. Coding is, in a way, like owning a house. Fix the doorbell and ten other things break. Do what you can.
  16. It was to definitely to reduce weight. I distinctly remember MTA board materials saying that was the reason before they were delivered.
  17. ........It's crazy to me that y'all are reaching that far into an empty barrell for reasons why open gangways can't work here. How the absolute foque does the type of gangway influence how thorough a workers checks are? How is the MTAs fault that one of their crew doesn't check properly? Sorry, but working on an industry where NOT being thorough can get someone injured or killed (film industry for those wondering, specifically lighting aka electrician and rigging aka grip), the fault solely lies with you. If you don't know how to do something, you ain't qualified enough to work on it. Please insert 50¢ to Continue
  18. Hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa I can't believe this had to be said.
  19. If London can get the New Tube For London (budgetary issues aside), we have ZERO excuses. And I dare someone to pull out the "we ain't London" line just so I can go "Exactly! These are for the deep tube lines which are much more constrained environment. Again, what real excuse do you have?"
  20. Lol "makes money" The subways haven't made money since December 1941 iirc
  21. How the hell do we keep getting back to this discussion?
  22. Not true. There will be slight differences (speaker location and shape, truck design, door motors, etc), but overall, the design will be nearly the same. There won't be another generational leap until the R142 replacements in the 2040s. The later 2030s and early 2040s will be relatively quiet after the 268s are done since there will be nothing to replace.
  23. That would answer my question of why there aren't enough crews. I found it VERY abnormal for there to not be enough and can't recall if the 160s, 179s, and 188s had this issue as 2005 is as far back as my enthusiast career goes. Childish way to go about it honestly. (Oh Genm, 2005.......the year I gained regular access to the internet)
  24. Not sure if it was you I saw yesterday, but if you saw a dude with a Kamen Rider Double shirt on, it was moi. Finally got my Far Rockaway trip yesterday and I definitely felt a tinge of happiness. Crazy to think all the East Coast sutems are in the process of getting rid of their last OG car classes. A new Era really is upon us and I need to experience as much of the current sytem as I can. Memories and all that
