  1. I don't think they printed up n1 timetables with weekend service. The PDF is still the weekday-only one too.
  2. Thanks. Using that start time and the GTFS to try to find n6-only blocks that fit those time frames, this is what I came up with. PDF link
  3. Keep in mind it's a holiday week and NCC is closed, so ridership is down. That said, I can easily see the n1 being cut back to Elmont if NICE buys some more artics - perhaps enough to cover 2/3 of the n6? The overlap between n1 and n6 in Nassau County is less than 10 stops.
  4. Some people have been saying that the artic(s) are also scheduled to run on Saturdays. For those who have been to HTC this week - is there any mention of this on the pole schedules? (if it's true, there should be, since the boarding locations are different)
  5. And let's not forget the last summer of the n87 in 2014, when NICE ran it Hicksville-Wantagh-Freeport-Jones Beach, scheduled for 50 minutes end to end (but probably taking much longer than that, Wantagh to Freeport nonstop takes more than 8min)
  6. NICE now has an excess of ARBOC's. They ordered 8, the previous schedule needed 7, now they only need 2. Where should they go? They already have the vans for paratransit, and most of the fixed route services are too busy to use them on. Perhaps the n57 and any restoration of weekend n79 service, but that's about it. I don't see them restoring things like the HWCS, n45, or n51 anytime soon with more impactful cuts out there.
  7. The n22A elimination wasn't advertised anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone didn't know and end up waiting for their normal bus tomorrow morning.
  8. From the GTFS and the above schedule, we can piece together a full schedule. (PDF version) They have 5 buses and are scheduling 4 to be in service at the same time...that's pretty aggressive. Luckily the schedule doesn't specifically treat these trips as artics in terms of gaps, so if a 40 foot bus fills in there shouldn't be a big difference.
  9. I'm noticing some discrepancies. For instance, the n58 that leaves Great Neck at 21:00 weekdays is not in the GTFS.
  10. I've taken many n78/79 rides, though mostly in the afternoons. Ridership in general: -AM eastbound - n79's are standing room only, n78's are full but less so. -PM westbound - Service is timed so the n78 picks up the shared crowds and the n79 takes the long distance riders. Usually a full seated load on each. If the n78 is late and runs behind the n79, the leader has many standees. -AM westbound / PM eastbound - Anywhere from 4-5 (n78) to 15 or so (n79) passengers per trip. -Middays - I'd estimate 15 or so passengers per trip (this is with the hourly service) -Evenings - quite empty, especially the last couple roundtrips -Weekends - only seen it a couple times, but it's usually not that busy. With this ridership, I'd rather have no service (so people are aware of it) than limited service (with passups and lots of unpredictability) n78 ridership on the unique portion is probably 5 or so passengers a trip in the peak direction (AM east/PM west), zero in the reverse peak. It's been a long time since I've taken that portion, though.
  11. GTFS interlining table as of April 9, 2017 Weekday Saturday Sunday If they are in fact planning on getting back $2-3 million of the $7 million original deficit, the 3 restorations seem very small. That said, they do represent 5 peak buses, which can cost a lot of money. The current schedule requires 7 peak shuttle vans, while this one requires 3. There is an AM n57 trip missing from the PDF's, leaving Great Neck 6:46 arriving 7:10. Personally, I feel that the n57 really should not exist, with the savings going towards things like the n27, but with the pick already in place they can only "restore" completely eliminated routes. Of those, these 3 make the most sense. In the future, it is clear that unless some party pays significantly more, cuts will continue as costs continue to rise. There isn't much left...you can't the n21 unless the n27 sees a service increase, etc. A good sign of what service cuts are likely to come in future years is what NICE proposed for April but never implemented - the 3 saved routes, the three shuttles, n1 weekday off peak service, and n35 Westbury,
  12. An 11th hour bailout may be coming: http://www.newsday.com/long-island/transportation/pols-more-than-6m-nice-bus-bailout-to-avert-route-cuts-coming-1.13324696 With less than two weeks to go, I'm not sure how this will work...you can't annul the pick and write another one in such a short time.
  13. n27, n35, and the correct n22 are now online. No significant changes in n35 service. Midday n27 now operates hourly, with no weekend service - no Sunday service in Glen Cove at all! So now, as compared to the original December proposals for April, -Confirmed additional cuts: n57, n33 Sunday, n27 hourly weekday, n27 weekend -Confirmed service saved: n21 Saturday, n35 Westbury, n1 midday/evening, n80 rush hour, Elmont Flexi hourly -Possible service saved: n88, Mercy shuttle
  14. Yep. The page links to the wrong PDF...this is the right one: http://www.nicebus.com/NiceBus/media/Nicebus-FrontPageNewsImages/NICE-n22_Apr2017_v2.pdf So now, as compared to the original December proposals for April, -Confirmed additional cuts: n57, n33 Sunday -Confirmed service saved: n21 Saturday, n1 midday/evening, n80 rush hour, Elmont Flexi hourly -Possible additional cuts: n27 midday hourly, n27 weekend -Possible service saved: n88, n35 Westbury, Mercy shuttle Hopefully we get the new schedules for the remaining few routes within the next couple days.
  15. If the n27 were left untouched, I'd still call this level of n21 service excessive. But they're planning on cutting it, and nobody knows to what degree. We may not see any service in Glen Cove on Sundays.
  16. Most of the new PDF's have been posted: http://www.nicebus.com/Passenger-Information/Schedule-Changes.aspx Many of the original April proposals that were made in December appear to be in effect. The n21 doesn't run Sundays The n81 (rebranded Sunrise Mall Community Shuttle) runs rush hours only The n54/55 aren't going to Amityville anymore The n58 stops at 9pm. The n6X midday NCC shuttles are gone. The n23 runs hourly middays The n24 isn't going to East Meadow anymore Saturday n48/49 service is reduced to every 45 minutes combined. Compared to the original April proposal, the n22A, Mercy shuttle, n21 midday/Saturday, and n1 off peak weekday are retained. Unknown what changes, if any, will take place on the n25, n26, n27, n35, or Mercy shuttle, as those schedules are yet to be posted.
  17. I see it here...http://www.nicebus.com/NiceBus/media/NiceBus-Schedules/NiceBus-SchedulesApp/NICE-n20_MapSchedule.pdf The unique portion of the n21 runs along the water for most of its length. That's half its walkshed gone. With the exception of downtown Sea Cliff, it doesn't have the density (relative term!) or commercial development necessary for a reasonably efficient bus route. The n27 has both of those things. It's ridiculous to keep the n21...reroute it over the n27, or keep the n27 and can the n21. It only survives because of the Northern Blvd segment, and though NICE is right that cutting the n21 would require adding n20H short turns, it's a fact of math that running Roslyn-Great Neck takes fewer buses and dollars than Glen Cove-Great Neck!
  18. The n1 has 50h28m of service on weekdays, 22h53m Saturday, and 15h52m Sunday. That's 291h5m a week. The weekend component amounts to 38h45m of that, or 13%. In fact, the only routes where eliminating all weekend service exceeds the 25% rule, assuming no reductions in weekday service, are n55, n71, and n22. Side note - there is one remaining n20 through trip - 14:36 dp Northern Bl/Plandome Rd on weekdays going to Flushing, no Great Neck diversion.
  19. Without notice, additional cuts have been added: http://www.nicebus.com/Passenger-Information/Schedule-Changes.aspx
  20. Weekend of 3/25 both and are terminating at Broadway Junction.
  21. New GFI fareboxes coming this month...looks like it comes with magstripe & RFID support http://sct-bus.org/assets/newfarebox.html
  22. It's a 25% reduction overall. Some times of day may be more, and there could still be less than a 25% reduction when it's all averaged out.
  23. I think it's worth reminding everyone that NICE has said there are additional cuts which do not require BTC approval, and the clause for BTC approval is "25% in the number of service hours assigned to a specific route". Since this doesn't say "on a given day", there can be significant reductions in weekend service that would not meet this threshold. I wouldn't be surprised if some things (n22 Sat, n15 Sat/Sun, early AM Sat n20/n71) are being cut.
