  1. What's being done on the late night Jay-Utica closures?
  2. This is probably a stupid question, but are conductors required on work trains, yard moves, or other non-revenue trains?
  3. The IND is closed from WTC to Broadway Junction due to a rail condition at Jay St. Trackwork is closing the downtown Rutgers St tunnel, no advisory has been posted. Something doesn't add up. EDIT: remains suspended; northbound (A)'s turn at Utica, some southbound (A)'s turning at WTC but it appears that some are going through.
  4. New bus maps online for all boroughs except Brooklyn. Any idea what the changes are? SI still lists Atlantic Express.
  5. By that I assume you mean non-glossy paper. That would explain the duller appearance of the PDF, as bright colors on dull paper are a waste. I think it's a good idea, especially if it's cheaper. Meanwhile in Pittsburgh the latest schedule change was printed on glossy paper and it seems that reprints of old schedules are also coming on glossy stuff (they used to use plain ol' paper like the LIRR)
  6. is singletracking from 121 to Jamaica Center due to weather related conditions. I wonder if this is switch failure or snowbirds.
  7. From the one time I rode it, the n22L did well as a local on its traditional segments. The unique part of the route carried comparatively very few riders.
  8. They're the same as far as I can tell. Which is a good thing, since if they're different NICE has an error to fix.
  9. Schedules posted on the NICE site. I'm not sure if that's all of them though, since they talk about n14 and n79 changes yet new timetables aren't available for those routes. EDIT: Half hourly Saturday Hicksville n24 service at some times of day.
  10. Regardless of what definition of "crush loaded" they're using, I wouldn't expect even a few standees in the wee hours of the morning (1a-4a). NYCT runs 2 buses per hour during the overnights for quite a few routes, do they become SRO under normal conditions? (no bunching or special events) 2010 data shows the n6 with 14.25k daily riders. That is equivalent to the Bx11 today, which is #52 of 177 in NYCT.
  11. The n23 southbound out of Manorhaven. There are now no n27 Roslyn starts or ends in the schedule, any day, any time. I'm not a fan of those uneven 40-20 headways. Makes bunching worse. Hempstead / Mineola 6 00 30 7 00 20 40 8 05 30 55 9 35 55 10 30 55 11 35 55 12 35 55 13 35 55 14 35 55 15 30 16 00 30 17 00 35 18 05 25 55 19 25 <-- not a typo there is a 1 hour gap here 20 25 55 21 55 22 55
  12. I made a typo in the schedule, :58 n6X trips exist for the 16, 17, 18 hours. Westbound n22/n22X departing Hicksville (to Jamaica unless noted): 4 54 5 24 55 6 26 41 7 09 36 8 01 31 9 01 31 59 10 29 59 11 20 50 12 20 50 13 13 33 14 09 39 15 05 23 45 54 16 12 27 42 17 02 12 27 40 18 20 43 19 20 54 20 24 54 21 24 59 22 24 23 04 (to Mineola only) Only 2 westbounds out of Hicksville an hour during the AM rush doesn't sound too pleasant. n22A's out of RFM: 5 06 41 6 11 45 7 02 27 40 55 8 17 46 9 15 31 14 29 15 00 48 16 16 38 17 00 38 18 08 31 19 01 31 n22 westbound short turns depart Mineola at 4:19, 4:31, 6:14, 6:44, 7:29. n22 westbound short turn departs RFM at 4:50. No PM n22 westbound short turns except for that night Hicks-Mineola trip. All n22X's in both directions add a stop at Cherry Lane.
  13. n22/n22A/n22X Eastbound schedule out of Jamaica (all n22/n22X to Hicksville and n22A to RFM unless noted): 5 00 20 40 6 00 10 20 25 30 40 43 53 7 00 10 13 20 30 40 40 50 58 8 15 25 30 9 00 15 30 45 10 00 30 11 00 30 12 00 30 13 00 30 14 00 30 15 00 20 40* 16 00 15 30 40 50 17 00 05 20 30 40 50 18 00 10 20 30 40 55 19 00 10 25 40 55 20 15 35 55 21 25 55 22 25 55 23 55 *n22A trip to Hicksville. No westbounds originate out of Hicksville. The above is the entirety of weekday eastbound service on the 22 corridor. No eastbound short turns exist. The n6/n6X (all AM n6X to NCC after 6:15am, first 2 AM and all PM to Hempstead): 0 10 45 1 10 40 2 10 40 3 10 40 4 10 40 5 00 15 25 35 43 40 55 6 00 08 10 20 23 30 37 40 48 50 58 7 00 08 10 18 20 28 30 38 40 48 50 58 8 00 10 18 20 28 30 38 40 50 52 9 03 04 14 16 26 28 38 40 50 10 00 10 20 30 40 50 11 00 10 20 30 40 50 12 00 10 20 30 40 50 13 00 10 20 30 40 50 14 02 12 22 32 42 52 15 02 12 22 30 40 50 16 00 08 10 18 20 28 30 38 40 48 50 17 00 08 10 18 20 28 30 38 40 48 50 18 00 08 10 18 20 28 30 38 40 48 50 19 00 08 15 23 30 40 50 20 00 15 30 45 21 00 20 40 22 00 20 40 23 00 20 40
  14. The FASTRACK for 2 weeks from now is posted. - South Ferry to 148 St . Skip 145 in both directions. - Dyckman to 242 St. Downtown skip 207 St. -Bus: 96 to 168, all stops -Bus: 168, 181, 191 -Bus: Dyckman to Dyckman Hopefully those heading north of 168 use the and not that bus.
  15. Updated the interlining table for Jan 12 schedules. The same caveats apply as before (terminals within a town, not sure of the relationship between blocks) Weekday Saturday Sunday There may be a few strange errors. I caught an n79 that NICE mistakenly signed up for 165th Street (but only had stop times through Hicksville)
  16. N22X remains reverse peak only. 4 trips/rush hour.
  17. Now, per the advisory: -Northbound turns TSQ -Northbound turns Queens Plz (I think they mean Queensbridge) -Some northbound turns W4 or 34 -Southbound turns Forest Hills -No southbound north of Forest Hills What a mess!!! From the earlier post, "Southbound trains are via line from Queens Plaza to 5 Av" How is that possible with the GO?!
  18. The is running via 63rd St/6 Av this weekend and the MTA is providing a Court Sq-Queens Plz-21 St/Queensbridge shuttle bus. Wasn't there a time right before the Court Sq station was rehabbed when they decided to stop providing this bus? Is it really necessary during the daytime hours when the is available at Queens Plz and the is available at Court Sq?
  19. I believe Kew Gardens is going to be 6 cars long. Not sure about the timing. I never heard of a Forest Hills extension.
  20. Blame the NIMBY's in NHP and Floral Park who refuse to let the LIRR add a third track. The one that arrives a quarter after 8 is a Ronkonkoma train. A very crowded one at that.
  21. Yep the train I took was the 5:11. I walked down to the platform right as the track was called, it was absolutely empty except for maybe 25 passengers coming down the stairs at the 7 Av end. We did leave Penn 3min late so there may have been crowding at the east end. Their destination is quite simple: east of Hicksville. Because of the rush hour the next Ronk train out of Penn isn't until 7:39am. So if they need to get there before 9am, they'll be on this train. I've taken the first off peak 10am-ish westbound at East Williston at least 15 times. Many of those times, especially if the train was late, it ran with an 8 car set.
  22. Are we talking about the same AM train here? When I rode it there were plenty of seats available. Granted, I boarded in the rear half at Penn. When that Hicksville eastbound that arrives on the westbound track is late, the first westbound Penn train must hold at Hicksville until that eastbound arrives in the station. It left there around 8min late today. Depending on the degree of lateness of that eastbound, the second Penn westbound sometimes has to wait until the eastbound turns around and leaves Hicksville on its deadhead trip west because the second westbound uses 1 track at Hicksville while the 6:45pm eastbound terminates on track 2. Because the eastbound was also late today, DIVIDE sent the second westbound through on 2 while the eastbound waited east of the station. An 8 car train on the Oyster Bay is probably because somebody broke down and it was easier to couple up a second set than swap engines.
  23. I actually took that KO train on Tuesday morning on my trip back from Pittsburgh. (Greyhound arrived over an hour early) I was quite surprised at the number of passengers waiting at Jamaica for the train even though the Far Rockaway train was still pulling in and hadn't unloaded its connecting passengers yet.
  24. The full list is posted. It's almost all repeats from the past 2 years. In addition to the 3 new ones above, there's an outage from Hoyt to Bway Jct. http://web.mta.info/nyct/service/fastrackSchedule2014.htm Week of... 1/6 Crosstown South 1/13 7th Av North 1/20 QBL West 1/27 IRT Brooklyn Local 2/3 Fulton St 2/10 Fulton St 2/24 Rutgers 3/7 Broadway 3/10 Sixth Av 3/24 7th Av North (no FASTRACK's in April) 5/5 Fulton St 5/12 Crosstown South 5/19 Central Park West 6/2 Broadway 6/9 Rutgers 6/16 Lower 4th Av 6/23 Brooklyn IRT Local 7/21 QBL West 7/28 Central Park West 8/11 8th Avenue 9/8 Crosstown South 9/29 Lower 4th Av 10/27 Lexington Avenue (Midtown) 11/3 QBL West 11/10 Rutgers 11/17 Broadway 12/1 7th Avenue (Midtown) Yikes!
  25. The 2014 schedule is posted. For Jan: Week of 1/6: Bedford-Nostrand to Church. Week of 1/13: 96-Dyckman.
