  1. He's suggesting that a later bus be moved earlier because that is when it's truly needed. Otherwise, adding service just to add service accomplishes nothing except running lots of empty buses.
  2. Not all of us voted for him. (BTW, the Vallone family owns the Vallo school bus company that took over the former X32 back in 2010.)
  3. That's why they also accepted testimony by email or snail mail.
  4. I would just extend the Q34 north along 149th Street to 7th Avenue and re-absorb the Q15A back into the Q15.
  5. The "Express" evolved into the Limited because people saw the express zipping by and said, "Hey, that bus should stop for me."
  6. The Q46 LTD used to be the Q44A Express.... Westbound: Local to Springfield, non-stop from Springfield to Main, then drop off at the subway. Eastbound: Pick-up at subway and Main Street, then non-stop to Springfield, then local to outer terminals.
  7. What specific service problems are you trying to solve? Maybe it would be better to identify the problems and then try to solve them, instead of offering solutions first.
  8. Are the new artics coming in to accommodate ridership growth, or are they merely replacing older artics?
  9. In other words, divert to serve Jamie Towers. That might actually be useful once the Soundview ferry starts running later this year.
  10. A little history: What we know now as the was actually created in 1989 out of three distinct, non-intersecting elements: the original , which ran along Williamsbridge Road north of Westchester Square; the original , Which ran along Crosby Avenue from Buhre Avenue station to Schley & Ellsworth; the Locust Point branch of the original . (Before 1989, the had three branches: Fort Schuyler via Edgewater Park, Locust Point via Edgewater Park, and Harding Avenue. As part of a major route restructuring, the was merged with the and extended to Edgewater Park and Locust Point. The Fort Schuyler branch of the was removed from Edgewater Park and the Harding Avenue branch was relabeled as .)
  11. That's just it. The merchants want parking instead of bus stops (which is why they vigorously oppose all attempts at enforcement).
  12. That would not be politically tenable. Remember that the merchants in Flushing want bus passengers to walk by their stores, but they don't want bus stops (because they take parking away from customers) and definitely wouldn't want bus lanes.
  13. It could have been in Flushing at the former Municipal Parking Field #1, if the Community Board and politicians hadn't caved to the merchants to stop it. The Main Street station rehab design back in the mid-1990s included a plan to keep excavating further under Roosevelt Avenue, then turn north under the Lippmann Plaza walkway to an underground bus terminal below the municipal parking lot. The merchants opposed it because they wanted subway and bus passengers to become pedestrians on the street and keep walking past stores instead of going directly between modes, and both the the Community Board and the politicians (especially then-City Council member Julia Harrison) dutifully obeyed.
  14. The last northbound stop is still on 39th Avenue, immediately after the right turn from Main Street. The first southbound stop is temporarily in the layover area on 138th Street, next to what's left of the former Municipal Parking Field #1. This is actually listed on the site under "Planned Service Changes." (My wife often rides the Q27 and has verified both of these.)
  15. I would scrap the Q19 and extend the Q69 to Flushing.
  16. Correction: The Q76 used to have a morning tripper for Bayside High School arrivals, ending at the school. They killed it 10+ years ago because nobody rode it. There is still one Q76 dismissal tripper from Bayside High School (run by QV).
  17. Springfield Blvd was recently (within the last couple of years) fully built down to 147th Avenue with two moving lanes in each direction. As part of that work, Springfield Lane now dead-ends about 20 feet shy of where it used to feed into Springfield Blvd. If you turn left on Springfield Lane, you would also have to turn right on 221st or 220th Street, then left on 146th Avenue to get back to Springfield Blvd.
  18. My comment was clearly humorous. Your reply shows who the true "bully" is.
  19. Each depot will get whatever upper management decides to put there. As long as they're the kinds of buses with wheels that "go 'round and 'round all through the town," all will be right with the world.
  20. It looks like they want to put in a single westbound lane for buses only.
  21. The main market is from Rochdale to QCC. The other markets are from Rochdale and the rest of southeast Queens, via transfers, to LIJ, St. Johns, Bayside High School, etc. The idea is to open up travel opportunities. Bay Terrace functions as both a destination in itself and a handy place to turn buses around.
  22. I've always liked the idea of a "Springfield Blvd. Crosstown" from Rochdale Village to QCC to Bay Terrace, linking a major population center with lots of activity centers (either directly or with transfers) while avoiding the congestion of Downtown Jamaica.
  23. I would extend it to where the Q37 ends. (That would cost very little since the Q9 had a long-ish non-revenue turnaround path.)
  24. Most passengers aren't picky. They will ride whatever shows up.
