  1. The double-fare problem can be solved by scrapping all transfer privileges in favor of a 3-hour pass.
  2. So Sheepshead Bay doesn't really "need" a bus to the Rockaways; the Rockaways "need" a bus to somewhere along the Brighton Line. In that case, why should a northbound "Q51" turn south to reach Sheepshead Bay station when it can go a much shorter distance to either Avenue U or Kings Highway station instead?
  3. Does Sheepshead Bay need a bus to the Rockaways? How much demand is there?
  4. IIRC, the Bx50 would have been an overlay on top of the Bx41, rather than a pure extension. I would have gone one step further and created a new "borough" designation letter: - Q70 becomes L70 - M60 becomes L60 - Bx50 (if there is one) would be L50 I'm not sure if a similar "JFK Flyer" branding would be needed (J3, J10, J15), because those routes have huge levels of non-airport riding.
  5. They proposed lots of interesting things back in 2008, including the Q94 LTD that you refer to. Then some fiscal realities hit home (e.g. lower-than-expected revenues from sales taxes and mortgage recording taxes), all expansion plans had to be put on hold, and the 2010 service cuts happened.
  6. The van operators don't want that. They want to stay on established routes where they have a ready-made market.
  7. I would use Avenue J and skip the loop through Canarsie Terminal.
  8. The B15 (formerly B10) was chosen to be extended after the Port Authority did a study of where airport/airline employees lived. Basically, most employees who lived in Brooklyn at the time lived near the B15 or near another route with a transfer privilege to it.
  9. I would prefer a Q13 LTD, with Q12 and Q28 picking up the slack at local stops. (Of course, most of those Q12 short trips would have to run long to make sure the local stops aren't underserved.)
  10. A combined M60-Q70 would make the Woodside-LGA section vulnerable to the vagaries of the RFK Bridge. Better to keep that part as a separate route.
  11. Has anybody else wondered why the S57 deviates into L.I. MacArthur Airport but the S54 and S59 don't? Does anyone else think that maybe one or both of them should?
  12. Remember that AM riding is usually more concentrated than PM riding — i.e. people tend to go to work at the same time every day, but they might not always return home at the same time every day. It might just make more sense to have all PM trips cover all of Co-op City.
  13. I'm guessing there would be a drop-off stop on Union at Roosevelt. Where would the Q17 and Q27 lay over?
  14. The merchants, and thus the politicians who listen to them instead of to actual voters, would never allow it, because it would divert bus and subway passengers from the sidewalks where they see the stores. (Back in 1995, they vetoed building an underground bus terminal below the former Municipal Parking Field #1 for the same reason.)
  15. Double-parking is not caused by bus lanes. Double-parking is caused by people choosing to double-park.
  16. Maybe just send more Q27's south of Jamaica Avenue.
  17. If there's a heavy snowfall and the BQX is suspended, there would be bus shuttles along the whole length. Otherwise, keeping a bus just in case of a snowflake sounds silly.
  18. Don't worry, the B32 will probably be scrapped once the BQX is built.
  19. Northwest corner is a hotel. Southwest corner is Skyview Center, a retail and residential complex with two full apartment towers and three more under construction. Southeast corner is the Bland Houses (public housing). Northeast corner is a gas station.
  20. I noticed an MTAB Orion 7 "old-generation" with a JFK decal (not sure of the number) heading northbound on I-95 between Country Club and Pelham Bay. Does anybody know what that might be about?
  21. Maintenance move? Maybe somebody wants to consolidate the parts inventory by keeping all the "old generation" Orion VII's in one place.
  22. Go back a few decades and you'll see "Q44A Express" trips. Westbound, they made all stops to Springfield and then non-stop to Main Street, then to the subway.
  23. The school is paying for both shuttles through student activity fees. (Also, the Jamaica shuttle has an extra stop at 169th St .)
