  1. Brooklyn is already getting all the New Flyers, and they're getting the Novas, too? Why does Queens get only hand-me-down junk?
  2. The Dept. of Buses suits don't answer to bus fans. They can send any bus to any depot.
  3. They always ramp up Q2 and Q110 for the Belmont Stakes. On all racing days, both routes use the small bus terminal inside Belmont property, next to the LIRR station.
  4. Fleet assignment decisions are not made at the depot level.
  5. This is New York, where NOTHING is final (even after it happens).
  6. The idea of a "Linden Blvd Crosstown" is interesting, but I would move the western terminal to Woodhaven/Cross Bay Blvd (for transfers to/from the and Q11/Q21/Q52/Q53) and maybe add a stop at Resort World. Also, I'm not sure it would be busy enough at first to warrant a Limited variant. Then again, does your new route need to run all the way out on Linden to 235th? Maybe send it up to QCC ("Linden-Springfield Crosstown"?) so it can serve a major activity center and relieve pressure on the Q27.
  7. Twice on the Q17 over the past month. All of us should also remember that fleet assignments are always very fluid and can change at any time.
  8. Can you please (pretty please) just tell us. Some of us can't read minds.
  9. #4686 at CS (on Q12) with JA rear sticker. Not sure if it's a transfer or a loan.
  10. The best way to "help out the Q76" would be to simply add Q76 service. The primary purpose of your Q86 should be to provide a link from Jamaica to Westchester Square (for which there may or may not be a demand).
  11. Is there any actual demand for such a route?
  12. It's LOGIC — those buses are 16 to 17 years old and should have been retired a while back.
  13. Yes, but the total number of LFS's will still be just enough to replace the RTS's, meaning that the NG's will have to stay. CS gets nothing.
  14. Then what does JA get to replace the NG's? (Remember that its allotment of 80+ LFS's is meant to replace the RTS's.)
  15. Not so fast... Jamaica's allotment of Novas will be replacing elderly RTS's, so those NG's will have to stay put.
  16. If necessary, LIE to BQE to Northern. Then again, why does the QM3 have drop-off stops at locations where it doesn't pick up?
  17. Unfortunately, it looks like CS will get nothing to replace its 60-plus Orion V's that are due to be scrapped.
  18. LLE and the other private carriers cared about maximizing their REIMBURSEMENTS. They all had a "cost-plus" arrangement with NYCDOT, meaning that they could spend as much as they wanted (say, by having a dozen or so buses in Manhattan on stand-by) and get paid back for all of it PLUS a 6% guaranteed profit.
  19. Maybe that's because Main Street is where people want to actually go. There was serious talk about 20 years ago (while the station rehab was being designed) about extending the station under the Lippmann pedestrian arcade to a new bus terminal under the municipal parking lot. The local elected officials (led by John Liu) shot that down because subway-to-bus passengers would no longer walk past the businesses at street level. The left turn from Union northbound into Roosevelt westbound is illegal. Might as well keep the Q65 on Bowne and follow the Q12/Q15/Q26.
  20. I'd say that the very presence of the bus is "promotion" enough — a 45-foot bus is kind of hard to miss!
  21. Maybe it's because some depots are losing dozens of old buses to scrap and getting zero new LFS's and zero new Xcelsiors in return. The retired buses have to be replaced with something.
