  1. It all depends on how fast they can verify your background info, how soon they want to fill up a class, the departments budget, if your urine checks out. Too many variables to give a solid answer. When I got hired in 2006 it only took them 5 days to hire me from the day I got called for pre-employment. Some folks had to come down there several times and give urine multiple times. Hopefully you get called sooner than later. I'd give it two weeks to a month to hear something at the minimum.   2. Booth hours vary quite a bit. Some booth hours start as early as 4:30am and as late as 9:00am. But majority of booth start times range from 6-8am for the tour, 2-4pm for the pm tour and 10pm-12am for the night tour. And training while in class is 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday. Ok some days you may be required to report to class earlier or later. The instructors will give you a class schedule, so you'll know exactly when and where to show up for duty.   3. Yeah well you can't talk about unfair. Those folks had to wait four years to even get test results. They were originally told they would never get hire, especially after the 2010 lay offs of agents. Then when they did get called many had to become cleaners instead of the job they tested for. So they've really been put through the blended. Best advice I can give you is keep taking other exams and stay patient. Station Supervisor Level I
  4. They'll still be jobs. There was recently a stations supervisor promotional exam, as well as other promotional exams open to station agents. So they'll be quite a few people moving on to other titles. Only reason I'd assume they extended the list is because there's still plenty of people who took that test and got hired as cleaners, and have yet to even get a chance to be called for the agents job yet.   6. I'd assume the temporary position would also have a probationary period. But honestly I've never heard of a temp title so I'm not 100%. If goes well Blue you could hear something in 2 weeks or less. Station Supervisor Level I

  8. Congrats on getting called. I can answer a few questions for you. First you will not be able to pick between AM/PM tours just coming out of class. You will have an in class pick with what open jobs are available at the time. Pickings are very slim for new agents, but best believe you will be working the busiest locations in system being new, everyone has to earn their stripes. The "01-F" I have no idea what that means. The Tile since 1999 has been only Station Agent AFC. Being as to the title over the next few years could have something to do with it. And as far the Courts interview that day may be hard to make, but not impossible. You're only going to be there the first day for drug screening. They'll give you a 20 page application to fill out and get back to you if your drug test comes back clean. So you could get out by 10:30am if everything goes quickly. The only issue is that they usually call people for other titles as well the same day. So that could slow up your process. My advice would be to try and either reschedule the MTA appointment or Courts appointment. It's not likely to get both done in one day. Station Supervisor Level I TA has been doing a lot of provisional hiring as of lately. I think this what they're doing with S/A title right now. Calling people before they establish a list. They've been doing it with promotional titles as of late, as well. Station Supervisor Level I Anyone deemed not qualified would've gotten a letter most likely before taking the exam. You have to pass a Education and Experience test before being allowed to take the exam. Station Supervisor Level I

  10. That's pretty strange that they wouldn't have any information on the exam. But yeah I'd call up TA human resources about this matter. Station Supervisor Level I
  11. There's no way to know that information, unless you work in the department that handles testing. The only number you need be concerned with is how many people's names are on the established list. But if I had to guess a number more than 6-7K. Could be higher. I remember when I took the exam in 2004 they administered the exam at one high school in each borough. And there had to be at least 2-3K people lined up. Station Supervisor Level I
  12. When this exam was given by DCAS you had to complete an education and experience exam before they'd allow you to take written exam. I'm not sure if TA does the same. But one things for sure if you don't have the required experience you will not be refunded your money. Station Supervisor Level I
  13. Because it's a very customer service intensive title. Plus you're completely responsible for everything that happens on that station and everything in the booth. You're basically the supervisor of that station until the station supervisor arrives. And they get enough applicants for the job for its needs. Station Supervisor Level I

  16. S/A hours while steady, still has it's issues. Like there's no guarantee you go home on time or don't get stuck into a double. Yuo cannot leave that booth until you're relieved. So you'll have to make sure you have a sitter that's understanding and flexible. And yes S/A's can promote to T/O by taking a course. IMHO it's ridiculous that someone can take an O/C exam off the street and get hired into the job. But current employees must take a course to promote into the title.

  18. They made the exam much harder than it used to be. When I took the exam in 2004 it was 80 questions. No trick questions, and no time consuming questions. It may be a while before you folks are called, as they're still hiring from the 2008 exam. Some of you may get offers to be cleaners in the mean time before they reach your list number to be hired as an S/A. The job has it's challenges, and pays well. My advice would be to take as many promo exams as you can, because by 2020-2023 the job is going to radically change. I did the job for 9 years, and took the promotion to Supervisor. I have another 20 years left on the job, so it was a no brainier. Especially since these changes are on the horizon. But good luck to all whom took the exam. See you in the near future.
  19. If it's not on the Notice of Examination, then it's not a requirement. The only title that requires 2 years cutomer service experience is the Station Agent exam.
  20. There won't be a single tricky math question on the exam guarenteed!! To qualify for T/O you need at least five years work experience, with one full year being at one employer. college years can subsitute for work. But you need all of this by the date of the exam. If you don't have a combined 5 years work, school anbd one full year at one job, don;t apply because they'll disqualify you. My cousin took the exam right outta highschool and they disqualified him. But if you have the minimum requirements go for it. Score at least and 94% and you'll get called. I've taken the liberty of posting the minimum requirements of the last exam in 2009. Even thought this exam was given by DCAS, I wouldn't expect the TA administered exam to require anything less or be exactly the same. HOW TO QUALIFY: Education and Experience Requirements: By the last day of the Application Period you must have: 1. A four year high sc hool diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a r ecognized accrediting organization; and 2. Five years of full-time, paid satisfactory work experience. College education may be substituted for experience on the follo wing basis: One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each 30 credits completed at an accr edited college, up to a maximum of four years. However, all candi dates must have at least one year of full-time satisfactory, paid work experience. Part-time paid experience will be pro-rated. You will be given the multiple-choice test before your qualifications are reviewed. You are responsible for determining whether or not you meet the qualification requirements for this examination prior to submitting your application. If you are found “Not Qualified,” at the time of appointment your applicati on fee will not be refunded. REQUIREMENTS TO BE APPOINTED: Medical Requirement: Medical guidelines have been establis hed for the position of Train Operator. You will be examined to determine whether you can perform the essential f unctions of the position of Train Operator. Where appropriate, a reasonabl e accommodation will be provided for a person with a disability to enable him or her to take the examination, and/or to perform the essential functions of the job. Drug Screening Requirement: You must pass a drug screening in order to be appointed. Residency: City residency is not required for this position. English Requirement: You must be able to understa nd and be understood in English.   21. The exams aren't difficult at all, especially the Conductor's exam, so don't beat yourself up over them. Those study guides won't help you very much since they're just test and give you no reason why the answers are correct or incorrect. Just on the day of the exams read everything careflly, use all the test time allowed and review all your answers before leaving the test site.
  22. Legally as long as an agency hires one person from a civil service list they've done what is required of them. Sounds shitty, but it's civil service law. Some titles just hire much slower than others. My wife waited four years to be called for property protection agent with a list number of 188. It all depends on how many people work in said title.
