  1. You would kill the existence of AP classes as they are currently known.
  2. I think the weighing also helps college admission counselors. If they review a students transcript and see averages constantly around or exceeding 100 they can assume that the particular student took Honors/AP classes and can give them special consideration accordingly. Colleges these days are extremely competitive and anything to give students an edge should be encouraged. Heck, my cumulative average of 98 (I took no AP's sophomore year) couldn't get me into Columbia or NYU . Although now, i'm not complaining given tuition rates at those schools. Side note: I was throwing in a little rebuttal to account for the many students placed into AP classes who aren't cut out for them. For them grades and college chances get worse because counselors just assume a high grade in a regular class equals capability in a more challenging class. People don't realize laziness is a huge problem among high school students (especially the ones I graduated with).
  3. In what universe does a weighted average of 86 roughly equal an unweighted of 95 (just using an example)? This is the type of thing i'm commenting on here and i'm sure other high schools have students like this as well.
  4. For some reason AP classes did the reverse and weighed down the GPA's of many students at my school. Many students in the AP classes were getting averages between 85-91 when they could easily get higher averages by taking the regular classes. In (Harry S. Truman) this allowed AP classes to get a negative stigma where many students would drop such classes from their schedules. Lately, many students have been unsuccessful in such attempts and the stigma is starting to be reversed. Did you go to a private school? I know in public schools the "brownie" points is an accepted practice.
  5. Those "brownie" points are meant to encourage students to take the more challenging Honors/AP classes. I'm all for such encouragement. If the 92 in an AP class equaled a 92 in a regular class you will upset the AP students who did more work than their counterparts to get the same grade and in the process more students will decide to take the regular classes which don't offer college credit. In regular classes (i'm talking about NYC non-specialized public schools) you don't learn much beyond what is tested on the Regents so why have a system encouraging students to take the easy way out and remain in those classes.
  6. So I took the Bx28 this morning going towards 192nd and somehow it picked up more of a load at GunHill/White Plains than it let out. During the morning hours in the Bronx most riders take buses to the subway, not from it. From what I saw it looked like these riders got on from the although I could be wrong. I can also confirm that people shouldn't ask for Limited service on that route. Most riders use it as a feeder from the subway stops meaning the local stops generate ridership and there's also the hospitals on Bainbridge. There's also the schoolkids and other individuals who will keep a steady load on the bus.
  7. I wouldn't extend Limited service on the Bx36. Limited service for that route has done very little to improve reliability at the expense of riders being able to access less stops.
  8. I absolutely loved that in high school. It's a shame that some of my classmates had as many AP classes as me yet had averages in the low 90's where mine was consistently over 100.
  9. It's sad that there are streets in the 21st Century without sidewalks. That should not be characteristic of an urban or suburban area.
  10. I guess nature has no-mercy on New York today. A second round of storms have come through now both of them bringing heavy rain. The morning storms rudely woke me up with the heavy rain, hail and huge rumbles of thunder although it was quick, My question is why more storms when just 3 days ago storms came?
  11. I never said that the current Brits suck. I would rather American talent or talent from other parts of the world over Britian. There seems to be too many of them and for some reason this One Direction group got accepted by American mainstream radio way too quickly. I'm sure there's a bunch of American singers that can be the next Adele and I want to hear them instead of a bunch of young boys singing pick-up lines. Thanks, for the correction on The Wanted. (whoever gave it; didn't see the handle name) Side note: I like Coldplay and Adele (both of which are British) Now Playing: Z100 (New York's Hit Music Station) Rihanna- Where Have You Been
  12. what is it with British artists (One Direction, The Wanted, Rita Ora, Cher Lloyd and most famously Adele) dominating the American mainstream? Are we all of sudden London as far as the music scene goes? You don't see Japanese and Korean stars getting their music played here but with a Brit it happens in a lightning flash.
  13. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has hit the U.S. market with T-Mobile and Sprint. The AT&T and Verizon versions have to wait. I can't wait to see what apple has up their sleeve with the iPhone 5.
  14. It seems like every thread VG8 posts in turns this way... with him subvertly bashing the Bronx by implicating an affluent area like Riverdale has nothing to do with the Bronx. It just looks more and more stupid each time. I could only wonder what he thinks of Brooklyn.
  15. lol ... Parkchester isn't that bad. It's one of the safer parts of the Bronx, hence why Macy's is there. And there are Riverdale riders who get the Bx9 from West Farms... are they complaining?
  16. Couldn't agree with you any more. What used to be known as a "relationship" is dead these days. I don't spend time trying to chase girls. I have goals for myself in life and i'm chasing those.
  17. Listening to Z100 (New York's Hit Music Station) Now Playing: Katy Perry- Wide Awake
  18. Look at his Bronx plans. Hit it right on the head.
  19. Someone doesn't use buses in the Bronx. (I won't give names)
  20. Listening to 103.5 KTU (The Beat Of New York). Now Playing: Madonna- Holiday
  21. Switching gears to a random thought, the song "Call Me Maybe" from Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen is catching on like wildfire right now. It stands at #1 on the charts. I wonder what you guys think of it.
  22. It's 2 science Regents for the advanced. What they like to do with the good science students is Living Environment (freshman year) -> Honors Chem (sophomore year) -> AP Bio or Chem (junior year) and then senior year you get the other AP. I actually had the choice of Bio or Chem junior year being that my school offers them the same periods (in my school AP classes are double period) and I chose chem. Being that AP Bio couldn't fit in my senior year schedule I got Physics instead and that's where my third science regents comes. With English my school only offers AP for seniors who are selected from the 2 honors classes that juniors get placed into. I don't see how there can be an AP exam in an area as subjective as English but it's worth the try to pass it and avoid taking in college where the professors usually go bonkers.
  23. It's not a special diploma that you get. The Advanced Regents is the highest. If you average 90 or over on your regents you are exempt from any introductory classes at CUNY or SUNY schools. In other words you can skip all the nonsense classes and go to work on your major unless your school is Baruch which has this weird 'core' all students have to take and only AP credits and transfer credit from some schools will get you out of the classes.
