  1. De Blasio is actually proposing study looking into the feasibility of an IRT line down Uitca Av, so if that goes somewhere maybe we could see it in 2 or 3 Capital Programs.
  2. Construction pictures from this month: http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/docs/2015Apr27_Transit%20Committee_SAS_FINAL.pdf 72 St is coming along nicely.
  3. By "older cars", are you referring to the R32/40/42? Because going by the last pre-2010 list (September 2009), the and together were already using mostly R160s with a moderate amount of R68s, and none of the retirement age cars, so I don't see why that wouldn't be an accurate representation of cars needed.
  4. Right now + use 47 trainsets. Pre-2010 + + together used 51 trainsets, and remember, that was when the terminated at 57 St, so it will need more cars than that. Also, the SAS FEIS (http://web.mta.info/capital/sas_docs/feis/chapter05b.pdf, page 23) absolutely did say that service would be increased, to 14 Southbound trains per hour and 12 northbound trains per hour during the rush, but I wouldn't be surprised if the MTA ended up not running that much service. @R178 8258: The 80-car option order is gone. The R179 order as a whole is done.
  5. FYI, the R179 order only includes four 10-car sets (40 cars), not six, so it's even less. According to JoeKorner the used 10 trainsets in in the AM most recently before it was eliminated. Right now + together use 47 trainsets (24 on the and 23 on the ) in the AM according to JoeKorner, and pre-2010 the , and together used 51 trainsets (23, 18 and 10 respectively). The will need more since it will be longer and will possibly run more frequently. The 40 new cars will basically bring usage back up to pre-2010. According to JoeKorner Coney Island already has a very low spare factor of R160s right now (47 out of the 53 trainsets used in the AM, that's only an ~11% spare factor). I'm wondering too exactly how it will all fit; I'm assuming we'll see trainsets swiped from other yards, but the MTA seems confident they can make it work based on the small size of the R179 order, so we'll see.
  6. Was there some kind of delay on the Lex Line today? I saw several trains today using cars from the , going to E 180 St. But these trains seemed to be extra trains, in addition to the normal trains going to Dyre Av. I saw one of them running local. I was on a train that terminated at Bowling Green (countdown clock said it was terminating at Wall St though, the actual train itself was signed up as running to Brooklyn Bridge), that train left Bowling Green and came back on the uptown track as a . That didn't actually spend any time fumigating at Bowling Green; it left almost right away... there were still some passengers on the train as it left to go to the loop!
  7. Actually right now southbound trains start running local in Brooklyn a lot earlier than they used to. On weekdays, the first southbound train that runs local in Brooklyn is the 8:49 PM train from Woodlawn to Utica Av. It's scheduled to get to Atlantic Avenue around 9:45 PM and makes local stops between Atlantic Av and Utica Av. It's the same on weekends too. I had no idea why this schedule change happened, but... This explanation makes a lot of sense.
  8. Must have been something pretty bad going on if there's still a conga line at 9:45 PM in the evening.
  9. http://nypost.com/2015/04/06/whistleblower-prompts-probe-of-second-avenue-subway/ A former apprentice working for Celtic Sheet Metal, a subcontractor for the project, claims that this subcontractor scammed the contractor E.E. Cruz and Tully out of money.
  10. RollOver, you realize MTADude and N6 Limited were asking why Manhattan-bound trains, but not trains, were running local between 71 Av and Roosevelt Av this past weekend right? Not why trains run local east of 71 Av during off-peak hours. I don't have an answer myself. This seems like one of the weirder service changes lately.
  11. MTA Service Status Service Change Posted: 03/27/2015 7:36PM Due to a sick customer at 5 Av-53 St, the following service changes are in effect: Southbound trains are running on the line from 36 St (QNS) to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr. Southbound trains are running on the line from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to W 4 St-Washington Sq. Allow additional travel time. ------------------------------ Almost. EDIT: Seems to be resolved already.
  12. The pictures I posted on the previous page, remember? Basically saying that construction is on time at the moment, but if CC doesn't pick up the pace, it will eventually fall behind.
  13. Yeah, this was a disaster. I'll leave the story of my commute in spoiler tags to save space
  14. Latest news from this month's board meeting from http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/150323_1345_CPOC.pdf (starts on page 21)
  15. No trains between Hewes St and Chambers St No trains between Myrtle Av and Essex St and free shuttle buses provide alternate service Weekend, 5:30 AM to 6 PM, Sat and Sun, Mar 28 - 29 service operates between Parsons/Archer and Hewes St. service operates between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. buses run between Hewes and Essex Sts, stopping at Marcy Av. Travel Alternatives For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, take a bus. • Transfer between trains and buses at Hewes St and/or Essex St . • Transfer between trains at Myrtle Av. ---------- This is next Weekend. Notice how there will be no service at all between Essex St and Chambers St, so riders will have to walk or use the to get around Manhattan.
  16. Seems legit... (yes, I know it's supposed to be 59 St, Brooklyn, but it looks like the intern didn't.)
  17. I think it should depend on where the work is being done. If work is being done at say, Fulton St, then yeah, it'll probably be impractical to relay trains between Brooklyn Bridge and Fulton St. But if work is being done in the Joralemon St Tubes (like the work last week for example; there are new lights installed in part of the SB tube, and they look nice) I don't see what is preventing trains from being relayed using that switch, especially if they're only running every 20 minutes. I do think trains should probably still use the loop, to avoid congestion.
  18. Whenever this particular GO happens the and get overcrowded anyway. I wouldn't say the is much help; take 86 St for example, if you're going downtown why bother taking the unless it's about to arrive when the and are running a lot more frequently? Is it feasible to relay trains using the switch on the express tracks between Fulton St and Brooklyn Bridge? It really seems pointless to only run trains to 42 St, and only every 20 mins.
  19. The uptown 8 Av local track is out of service for construction, and uptown and trains are running on the express track. The is being sent up 6 Av to avoid having three lines (the and ) all running on the same track during the construction.
  20. Massive delays on the LIRR this morning due to 4 broken rails... Is it Friday the 13th already?
  21. According to the FEIS, trains would possibly be maintained at Coney Island Yard, but they'd be stored in several different places, such as: - Tail tracks on 125 St between Park Av and 5 Av - Tail tracks on 2 Av between 125 St and 129 St - 2 extra storage tracks that will run next to the main tracks from 21 St to 9 St - Tail tracks beyond Hanover Square station - The 36-38th St Yard (the small yard near between 36 St and 9 Av stations on the line) The might have to be moved to Concourse Yard or 207 St Yard to make room for the . Sauce: http://web.mta.info/capital/sas_docs/feis/chapter02.pdf (page 25) (Keep in mind, nothing's set in stone yet)
