  1. No real point in really having trains run in Brooklyn for only 3 stops. People are still going to need to transfer. And yeah, the would have to go to New Lots at all times, but I was just considering the regular day service pattern in my answer. And sending the down to Bowling Green via the would just back up the trains as well as get in the way of itself because both directions would have to use the same track to turn around. Might as well send it to Brooklyn because most of the people traveling to lower Manhattan on the are coming from the Upper East Side or transferring from a Queens train, not coming from the Bronx.
  2. - No trains south of 86th Street - Run on the line in Manhattan Increased service on M14, M23, M31, M66, M79, M86 crosstown buses as well as M101 LTD and M15 SBS.
  3. Not realistic at all, but neither are any of the ones posted here really. This is just mainly to get you guys thinking. ALL river crossings are closed and trains cannot pass through. Try to provide service to as many stations as possible. (However, Roosevelt Island and Broad Channel will obviously be left without any service)
  4. - Run in 2 sections: Times Square to Coney Island; Queensboro Plaza to Astoria - Suspended (( runs local in Brooklyn) - Runs between Times Square and Brooklyn NEXT: Because of a police investigation the UPTOWN platform at Chambers Street is closed off and trains cannot pass through (downtown side is fine). How would you reroute the trains?
  5. I'm doing this one logically and rationally: - No service between 14th Street and South Ferry - Runs on the line in Manhattan - No service south of 42nd Street - Times Square - Extended to New Lots Avenue - Local, runs on the between W 4th Street and Jay St - Suspended - From W 4th Street, goes to 2nd Avenue and terminates Next scenario: The switches directly south of 59th Street aren't working properly, and trains can only pass along 8th Avenue. How would you divert the trains (and alter service on other lines potentially)?
  6. Traffic is already horrible on 2nd Avenue. I pass it every day to get to the subway and it's just awful. Closing off entire segments for cut and cover would only make it worse, and it would send tons of extra traffic onto our residential York Avenue and possibly even quiet East End Avenue. We do not need any more traffic, and this construction is already ridiculous.
  7. Smh... you guys actually think that they're going to continue on with the construction if they actually do complete it to 96th? I live near and pass by the construction every day, and I don't see an end to this any time soon. The MTA's really screwing over the Upper East Side. First we get hit hard with the elimination of 2 bus routes, now they mess up 2nd Avenue and at 86th Street it's only one lane in each direction which, along with the rest of 2nd Avenue, is always backed up during rush hour. Also, originally 2012 was the completion date they projected, but now it's been pushed back to 2017 or 2018... do you guys seriously believe that they're not going to push it back any more?
  8. EVERYBODY: Stop having a wet dream and listen the F*** UP... The Second Avenue Subway extension as far as 96th Street MAY happen, and even if everything sticks to plan it will be AT LEAST 5 years until then. An extension further to 125th Street is HIGHLY UNLIKELY due to LACK OF MONEY. It may possibly happen in our lifetimes, but I wouldn't bet on it. --- Beyond this line is pure fantasy, and if you honestly believe any of this will happen then you need help --- The train will NEVER, I repeat NEVER come into existence before we die. There will be no T train to Hanover Square No extension into Brooklyn No sending it up to the Bronx ... NOTHING -- The MAY come back into existence, but none of us know or will our opinions have ANY impact on the MTA's decision. Remember, this is assuming that they actually do complete the Second Avenue Subway up to 96th Street, and like I previously said, it will be AT LEAST 5 YEARS if the MTA sticks to their schedule, which they previously have not. If they had stuck to their schedule, it would be opening up in a few months, but it's not. ... And yes, I MUST reiterate the image that Roadcruiser1 posted because it expresses my entire thoughts about this thread after the first few posts.
  9. Phase 1 will be the only phase completed for the Second Avenue Subway any time in our lifetime. The will go up to 96th Street via 2nd Avenue. The train, which is supposed to run the entire length of 2nd Avenue, will never come into existence. PS: In b4 some nut posts some fantasy plan about the Bronx and Brooklyn
  10. I know what you mean by that. Years back when I was young and was still in school downtown, I used to take the express bus. There was this one time when an X90 and M31 pulled into the stop at the same time and I was the first person to get on the express. The driver put up his hand and said "wrong bus, kid, try the one behind." Apparently I wasn't the typical older white guy in a suit and tie with a briefcase and he thought that something was wrong, but I just ignored him and paid the fare. A couple of other times there were drivers who were nice and just wanted to make sure I was on the right bus by saying "going downtown, right?"
  11. FamousNYLover, I'm sorry but I won't be able to get to your map requests until this weekend. I've been working really hard lately on the express bus map of the full 5 boroughs and will hopefully be done with this soon. The Long Island express bus won't be part of the map because it would just be too cluttered, and the BxM4C will be the same color as the other Bronx buses but have some distinction in its bullet than the rest. (Like how the X23 and X24 AE buses are different compared to the other SI Expresses)
  12. You just reminded me! Last year using the DOT's map of the full 5 boroughs I was able to map every single NYC express bus in the outerboroughs. I abandoned the project when I reached Manhattan because it was getting too complicated, but I'll definitely resume it! And what exactly do you mean by Bee-Line and Long Island Transit Express Buses? Could you provide me with the links to those services, I'm not familiar with them but I'd love to have them on the map! (I'll also get to your map requests some time this week)
  13. Here are the maps that have been requested! ThrexxBus - M6/M19 Q23 Central Term - Q60/Q101 extension Q23 Central Term, I cannot do the "M86 extension" because the directions you gave include going the wrong way on one way streets and leaving out a turn around spot at one end. Also, the extension makes absolutely no sense because it's making the M86 double back on itself and is basically a combination of the M86 and a shortened M31. If anyone else wants to post TURN BY TURN directions for any of their Manhattan fantasy bus routes then go ahead and post it up.
  14. Sure thing! I'm actually quite busy today so I'll get to it either tomorrow or Friday. If anyone else wants to post TURN BY TURN directions for any of their Manhattan fantasy bus routes then go ahead and post it up. However just know that I probably won't get to them until this weekend.
  15. Download the Blank Manhattan Bus Map file, open it up in Inkscape, and draw lines and such.
  16. I use Inkscape also, but I just convert them to .pdf and upload them to my website. And here's a new route that I created. The M83 - Upper West Side to the Javits Center during events only. Not only does it provide easy, fast access from the Upper West Side, but Upper East Siders can connect using crosstown buses. http://scaped.net/mta/m83.pdf ------- And if anyone has any Manhattan fantasy bus routes, feel free to post the exact turn by turn directions and I'll create a map for it!
  17. M24: Downtown Crosstown - Connecting Water St and the WFC
  18. Not a route really, but here's a possible solution for running buses down Broadway. The different colors represent different possible routes. http://scaped.net/mta/broadway.pdf
  19. I don't think so really. Isn't the M35 mainly just mental patients going to/from the hospital? Any sane person either drives or takes a cab to Randall's Island because spending the extra money is definitely worth it than having to wait around 125th Street with a bunch of lunatics waiting for a bus. And the buses would run all year long, with increased service during the summer. And unlike any other bus route, it would run much more frequently on weekends than weekdays.
  20. Randall's Island: http://scaped.net/mta/islands.pdf M36: Upper East Side, York Avenue M38: Upper East Side, Madison/5th Avenues, 86th Street M37: Upper West Side, Riverside Drive/West End Avenue, 96th Street Some buses to Randall's Island run express via the West Side Highway between 72nd and 96th Streets M39: Upper West Side, Central Park West, Columbus Circle ( Not so sure about the M37/M39, but the M38 and especially the M36 would do quite well during the summer on weekends. Also, none of these buses will make any stops anywhere close to 125th Street, that's what the M35 is for.
  21. Yeah I know, it's terrible. I was considering just hailing a cab after 10 minutes but kept saying to myself how I already paid and that the bus should be coming any minute, which obviously was not the case at all. I don't even know if this is the proper way to do so, but I was just so fed up that I walked over to the local bus stop when I saw it coming and just walked in past the driver with the SBS ticket in my hand, and kept looking out the back window to see if an SBS was approaching us or not so that I could transfer at the next stop, but nothing.
  22. Oh you're referring to the headways. The headways aren't quite as good as the crosstown buses (mainly the M79 and M86). As much as I want to say that the M15 SBS has good headways, one afternoon on the weekend I waited 17 minutes (I timed it) at 42nd Street before saying the hell with it and hopping on the local, and when we got to 86th Street a select still hadn't passed us.
  23. Did I read that right? The M60 is the only bus in Manhattan that's fast enough for you to take seriously? *Insert face palm image here?*
  24. I'm sorry, but that's just the way I see it. I've never seen anyone with luggage waiting for the bus or anything because we wouldn't dare go and wait on 125th Street for a bus with all our stuff out. Plus if it's going to be an express bus charging $5.50 then we'd rather just take a cab. Not only can it use the Grand Central Parkway, but it can also use the FDR Drive to get to the RFK, both of which buses are prohibited from doing.
  25. First off there are issues with the routing. The "super express" should use 1st and 2nd Avenues. Why should it go so far out of its way by using Lexington and 3rd, which have far more traffic than 1st and 2nd? Secondly, you completely missed my point. I think I can speak for the majority of Yorkville residents in saying that we will NOT take public transportation to the airport. If the cost for a family of 4 to go to the airport is $22 each way then they'll just hail a cab right outside their apartment and skip all the trouble of a bus. Not that small amounts of money like that would be an issue to anyone going on a $100+ flight. A lot of us call for a car service in advance as well. I don't know the details, but there's also those airport vans that I sometimes see driving around which is relatively cheap compared to cab fare. And finally, headways on such a route would need to be every 5 minutes or else we simply won't tolerate it or wait for it. The M31 has headways of about 10 minutes on the weekends, and we'd rather take a cab from one street on York Avenue to another street on York than wait for the bus. We're so isolated from the subway that besides for commuting to our jobs, we're accustomed to taking cabs or walking to most places. You could make that bus free and it would still barely get any ridership. Also I just want to mention that I've never flown out of La Guardia Airport ever. Always either Newark or JFK. That's the "official" rules, but the QM downtown buses take it to/from 34th Street and sometimes the northbound X90 would take it to the 42nd Street exit.
