  1. We use cabs, car service, or even our own vehicles to go to the airport. I personally would never even consider taking public transportation to the airport, or even anywhere outside of Manhattan.

M61: Midtown to La Guardia Airport Route in Queens: From the Midtown Tunnel exit onto the BQE, take that onto the Eastern spur, take that onto the Grand Central Parkway, exit at 94th Street and follow M60 route. From Marine Air Terminal onto Astoria Blvd, onto the BQE Eastern spur, exit onto the LIE, and take that into the Midtown tunnel.

  5. Hey, the ones on the MTA maps are in many pieces, so I just put all of them into one group so that it acts like one object. If you're editing an MTA map just select the second tool from the top on the left side bar, drag a box around the limited stop or SBS stop on the map, and press Ctrl+G, then it should act as one object.

  8. Well most of it just requires practice and skills you'll gain through using it for a while. But if you want to make a basic map just do the following: 1. Open up the map in Inkscape 2. Select the "Draw Bezier curves and straight lines" tool on the left toolbar (two above the text tool) 3. Click where your first point should be, then continue along the route you want, clicking along the way to make points on the line. If you want curves, instead of clicking along the path then click and hold to drag. Besides for that you'll just need to get the hang of how to use different things. I'm pretty sure Inkscape has some tutorials or a manual on their website for how to use the different tools.
  9. Good luck extracting a couple hundred people from down on the tracks. I'd say send a train up there at full speed and let them all occupy hell, hehe. -- Here's an interesting one: At the 47th-50th Streets station (, the middle two tracks are out of service and trains cannot pass through. How would you reroute trains? Remember that the use the middle downtown track and the use the middle uptown track. Use the track map if you need to.

  13. Attention If you would like to download the blank Manhattan bus map that I've been using to map out my proposed routes then just click here! Make sure that you have Inkscape or some other SVG editing software installed, and then just open up the map (it's name is "manhattan_map.svg" by default). On the bottom left hand side of the map there are different symbols/shapes already there for you to use, such as route numbers and the select bus service stop symbol. Copy and paste these to use where needed, and change the number and color if needed. The four different route bullets, from left to right, are regular service, part-time service, service with a letter designation that isn't M (such as the Q32), and weekday only service. If you edit the number you may need to re-center the text by moving it around. Below that are a list of color codes used on the current map, as well as the colors of an express bus route and the color of the dash on the nonstop segments. And on all MTA maps, the width of a local/express bus route line is 2.489, and the width of a select bus service route line is 3.750. Everything should be pretty straightforward after you get a hang of how to use Inkscape, but if you have any questions then feel free to post them here. Now let's see some good new maps!

In terms of operating costs and such, the best way to handle that would be: ( - Local in Brooklyn - Unchanged - Unchanged - Unchanged - Via Lower Manhattan - Suspended - Unchanged --- Mine: Due to structural issues, the top level of the 7th Avenue station collapsed onto the bottom one resulting in the entire station and tracks to be closed off while reconstruction was taking place. This means that no trains can pass through this area. How would you reroute the trains?
  15. Well all I really did was download the Manhattan bus map from the MTA's website, open it up in Inkscape, delete all of the bus routes, subways, street names, etc., and then just drew my own lines. I'll upload the blank map to my website tomorrow so that you guys can download it if you wish.
  16. Oh, just a tip if you're using Inkscape to make fantasy maps: Delete all the subway lines, bullets, and all text except street names or else it can get really laggy after you add enough new routes.
  17. ... and have their relatives sue the MTA for millions due to wrongful death after they get run over by multiple cars in the next lane? Enough of your "if people are stupid enough to do this, then the MTA should let them kill themselves" attitude. If the MTA does that then they're liable for whatever happens to the passenger because they didn't have any safety measures. Plus there's many times when a bus becomes so packed that someone could easily be accidentally shoved into the door when the bus is making a turn?

Yeah, and considering how the bus stops are only 2-3 blocks apart the driver would definitely hear a mouth full from whoever he missed and the people up front would probably chime in and all verbally gang up on the bus driver. I'm not sure if any would report it, but that can be enough to discourage bus usage and make more people start taking cabs, and they might even joke about it and say "I'll take a cab, that [explicative] isn't gonna stop anyways."
  21. Regarding your story with your dad and the M31, I honestly thought that it was regular policy to do so. I've only ridden buses on the UES plus the X90/X92 and M15 SBS, but from what I've noticed is that if there's anyone close to a bus stop just standing around the bus will go into the bus stop, but unless the guy turns his attention to the bus or starts walking towards it then he'll just speed off again. Opening up the doors and honking is rare but I've seen it a couple times.
  22. Yeah it'll definitely gain a whole lot of ridership. Even though it'll take longer to get Downtown than the subway there will always be people wanting to use it so that they get a comfortable seat and don't have to deal with the immensely overcrowded subway. Heck, even if they kept the BxM18 route the exact same as it is now but added stops along 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue at places like 67th, 72nd, 79th, and 86th, it would still get a ton of ridership from the Upper East Side.

  24. Would this work? This is a completely serious idea and could definitely work. New route = Dark green, old route = light green. BxM18/X90 combo
