  1. If they used buses deadheading to do runs on the X25 they would make more money than they lose. If the bus is already going downtown then even if just 5 people took the bus the MTA is making $27.50, and I'm sure the extra few minutes (X25 took about 30 minutes from start to end) wouldn't cost more than that. Well then again it is the MTA... inefficiency is their specialty. Well lets get back on topic. Even though this is a peaceful express bus discussion I know someone will come and mention the X-you-know-what bus and all hell will break loose. Anyone have any more routes they'd like to be added to the map? B)
  2. Visually speaking, the M26 makes perfect sense, however it seems like a combination of the X25 and X26 buses, which were to provide a nice alternate (and for the X25, faster) service to the World Financial Center from Grand Central Metro North (X25) and Penn Station (X26). That M26 would take 30 minutes at least during rush hour to go from Grand Central to 14th Street, and then another 10-15 minutes down West Street to the World Financial Center. It would be useless to the very few people who actually took the X25 but be good for the other group of very few people who actually took the X26. I have no idea whether or not there is a demand for service to Astoria from 125th to 145th and Broadway so I won't comment on that, but visually speaking it looks like it could work.
  3. I used Inkscape to create the map. Thanks for pointing out the error with 23rd Street, I'll fix that soon. I want to put "unique" ideas on the map, not just small changes to existing routes or adding SBS to a route. A perfect example of unique would be some of the ones created by FamousNYLover, such as the M18 or X82/X83. The M6 idea is basically the M5 south of 72nd Street, and the M55 SBS is basically an M5 SBS. Not saying that those routes aren't good ideas or anything, just saying that I want more creative ones so the map doesn't get too cluttered with routes close to what currently exists today. B) Updated map: http://scaped.net/mta/colab.pdf I also think that it's worth mentioning that I see a common theme in all of the routes I've mapped. Almost all of them use 42nd Street and the only avenues used in Midtown are 7th and 8th, with only one (the X83) using 9th. Also with the M25 and M26 (both created by different people), they were both trying to provide a service to combine the X25 and X26 routes into one, one of them decided to use the FDR Drive and the other decided to use West Street. Also, so far any bus that goes to Lower Manhattan travels via the M20 to South Ferry.
  4. I was going over this thread and put most of the routes in Manhattan on one big map to show all of the routes that you guys thought up. (Please note some routes aren't there because the streets used weren't specified or had errors in them, ex: wrong way on a one way street, illegal turn) I also included somes Brooklyn and one Bronx bus routes in there as well to mix it up a bit as well as a couple express bus routes. http://scaped.net/mta/colab.pdf - Credit for the routes are given on the bottom left hand corner of the map. Anyone have any routes they'd like me to add to the map?
  5. Express Local Buses - Operate Rush Hour Peak Direction Only M17: M15 SBS via FDR Drive to the World Financial Center M26: M20 limited via West Street M105: M103 limited via FDR Drive Edit: Oops, on the M20/M26 the arrows on 7th and 8th Avenues are facing the wrong way. :S
  6. I use Inkscape to edit it. And to make the map all I did was download the Manhattan Bus Map from the the MTA's website, open it in Inkscape, and delete all of the routes and labels so that all that was left were the streets and stuff. Then I could just draw new routes and stuff. :)

  7. M17: M15 SBS super express via FDR Drive to the World Financial Center Rush hours peak direction only.
  8. Actually, most people will use a car to get to Jones Beach rather than schlepp all their stuff (umbrellas, towel, etc.) on the subway to the train THEN on to a bus, and then again at the end of the day. Their total time commuting will be far more than the time actually spent on the beach. Oh and forget about doing that during rush hour because you will barely be able to get in the train with all the stuff that most families bring to the beach.
  9. Overkill is using ATLS traffic with random traffic patterns (using the AJS traffic kit + Junction Link) to have traffic that is absolutely realistic and random. I even managed to make a one way street with timed lights so that the cars make each light at their natural speed.
  10. WOW!!! Those look absolutely amazing; Excellent work there Green Eggs n' Pelham! Especially with the Lexington Avenue station on the train. I've only been there once but from what I remember you got it spot on! Can't wait until they're released.
  11. What are you talking about? Just save the pdf and open it in inkscape...
  12. WHat?? Since when?? I gotta get those now. B)
  13. IRT. I only use the so they're all the same car which is good, and even though I don't need it, the stop announcements are understandable to the average human being. Trains come every 90 seconds and it's always a quick ride down. Only maybe once every two months there's some sort of delay, but it's never more than 10 minutes or so, and since now more than half of my commute time is walking (damn the MTA for removing the X90) I can make up for lost time by jogging/running.
  14. Just a tiny problem - the space in the middle of the tracks is too clean! Where's all the garbage and foul liquids that inhabits the subway tracks?! XD Nah I'm just kidding, that looks AMAZING!!
  15. WOW, those look SO realistic!!! Can't wait until they're released!
  16. Jeffmorris DID make separate stations for IRT and BMT/IND.
  17. Can't believe I didn't try that before! Thanks!
  18. Yes that does help a lot! I can't believe I didn't think of that. Yeah I know that BStyles worked extremely hard on the El package and it is truly amazing and much more realistic than the previous one I was using.
  19. The one with it on that side is for junctions. I tried it but it looks so awkward for an island station because there's a gap between the edge and the station as well as you can see through the bottom.
  20. The track with one handrail always has the handrail on the opposite side of the 3rd rail. This has been a problem I've run into with this set as well.
  21. WOW!!!! Those elevated tracks are unbelievable!! Will they be available for download soon?
  22. I don't think that the signs are needed because when you're driving a train you don't see them anyways.
  23. It looks great! 14th and what though?
  24. Those are amazing!!! Just downloaded them and they look SOO realistic.
  25. Hmm, I think there's a bit of a problem. A terminal can't have 3 tracks and only 2 side platforms because then people can't get out of a train on the middle track. Other than that I think that it looks pretty good.
