Money problems for the U.S. Postal Service could mean a long list of post office closings in the city. There are nearly 700 possible closures across the country, including 53 in the five boroughs.

The two hardest hit boroughs are Manhattan with 25 closures and Queens with 11.

"I have a lot of concern for the members who have to relocate as far as 125 miles away and also concern for the community who are used to going around the corner will now have to get a MetroCard to get on a subway to get to a post office," said New York Metro Area Postal Union President Clarice Torrence.

The post office is trying to counter a potential loss of nearly $7 billion this fiscal year with staffing cuts and removal of collection boxes, in addition to the two-cent increase in the price of stamps. The recession along with stiff competation from rivals such as UPS, FedEx and even the internet are to blame for the losses.

Mail volume fell by 9.5 billion pieces last year with 28 billion expected this year.

The earliest any location is expected to close is October. There's also a possibility 300 more locations could be added to the list.

Wow, those are some landmark locations there that people depend on...... No mail in the ESB? That's been there since it was built if memory serves!

Jeeze. And taking it out from the PABT?! Uh, people might need to mail something before or after a trip to or from the city.....
