Rockaway Line Station construction

Far Rock Depot

Recommended Posts

Now for another update:

On Feb 1, 2010, the Manhattan-bound sides of B25, B44 and B67 Sts will close for approximately 4 months. no exact finish date has been posted since they were late with the first ones. Theres no word as of now regarding the Rock Pk bound platforms of B90th and B105th Sts.

I dont expect any rehab on the other stations to start till next fall/winter since the MTAs common practice when it comes to any work in Rockaway is to not have any during the summer months.

They haven't started them yet. Any news on when the Manhattan-bound platforms will close?

well the new plan seemed to be close down the line this weekend to set up and have them closed for the 4 months staring tuesday when the G.O. ends. But with the snow coming this weekend, every GO except on the 7 is cancelled. guess we'll have to wait and see what they do next weekend.

No they didnt. heres what they did:

Removed windscreens and railings from platform and stairs. (Windscreens only at B90 and B105)

Completely removed the cement the entire length of platforms.

repainted the canopy beams (not complete yet)

applied new cement on platforms.

Installed new lighting on the platforms

Now the stairs that are in use have not been re-done yet. And the rear section of the mezzanine is stll closed off. one of the stairs to the street on the south side at B44 has been completly removed. And the railings at the ends of the platforms at 90th and 105th havent been removed. It looks like the Rock Pk Stations are being done half-a$$ed like back in the 90s.

Well, if they still have to do work at the station before it's done being renovated it might be too early to say that. Reopening the station doesn't necesarily mean the work is done, they might just want to do it to make as little inconvenience to the riders as possible.

This is true, but if its about convenience, shouldnt it be the other way around? Not to mention the Rock Pk stations took the longest. For whatever reason now, ive seen from past work throughout 20 years, ROck PK get the short end of the stick.

we'll see in a year i guess. Till then...

Lets watch! B)

  • 3 weeks later...

well, waiting and watching showed us once again how the MTA loves to change its mind.

the original plan was to close the manhattan-bound sides of 67,44 and 25th st stations which was supposedly delayed. now as of 5am 2/22/10, they closed the Mott ave sides of 60th and 36th st stations.

i guess theyd rather have one whole side worked on at the same time. Now we can figure out the rest of the time line

once those sides are completed they will work on the manhattan bound sides of 25th st to 67th st.

no update on the rock park branch yet.

BTW, the windscreens are being installed to the canopy at B67th St. Its lookin kinda cool. ill try to get pics as i pass it on the train.
