Comcast to buy NBC-TV pending government ok

after months of rumors, nbc-tv currently the 4th ranked tv station in US, according to nielsen ratings has been brought by cable tv giant Comcast pending federal government approval.

assuming the deal is approved, will comcast be able to save the 'peacock' network now going though diffcult times with low ratings and the unsuccesful 'gamble' at this point of moving Jay Leno's show to the 10pm time period?

nbc-tv at one time was a pionnering station and was the oringal 'home' to some of the most popular scrpited shows dramas/comedies of all time from 'bonzana' to 'hill street blues' 'saturday night live' 'Cosby' and in more recent years 'friends' and seinfeld.' feel free to comment on the proposed sale and why nbc is suffering in ratings right now? thanks

Crazy, ! I do not want Comcast to buy them down, but the worst case scenario is that all NBC Universal goes only cable, no satellite... Because, I have Directv, ugh Comcast - screw you!

i am sure the feds will not allow NBC to become a cable only channel. right now nbc's already owns part/several channels like the weather channel and usa network.

if the merger is approved, nbc will also now own versus(the sports/men's oriented channel)sci fi and couple of others now owned by comcast.

plus rumors are flying that comcast will change format at versus and make it a new rival 24/7 national sports channel to espn and fox sports net using nbc sports talent/shows.

great what we need another super media conglomerate now comcast who is the largest cable provider will own most of the stations it provide and can set their own rates for those stations which could mean rate hikes dont be surprise in the future time warner cable who time warner has already branched out for the rest of time warner merges with comcast and will control most of the cable in the us off subject but could time warner please get the nfl network

excellent point. while the plus could be a new Comcast/NBC sports cable channel to challenge espn and fox sports net(in nyc area it's msg network) for regional and national sports packages, the big negative could the rise in digital cable/broadband rates in couple of years.

i am sure the '4' major sports leagues(NHL NBA MLB and NFL) and others ie tennis, golf, and fifa/mls soccer league are simling as espn may now have a rival in a new comcast/nbc sports cable network to bid for digital cable rights on their lucrative sports packages.

and it's sad nel that the nfl network is still not available in much of the country's cable systems. :P

agreed competition breeds more profit for these leagues and packages because at the present time espn has a virtual monopoly on cable sports and with nbc and comcast merging they will have the assets to challenge espn and the more these sports packages go up so will your cable bill in fact comcast almost had the thursday nfl package that is now on nfl network and cable systems wont take the nfl network because they cant get their greedy hands on the nfl season ticket which direct tv has exclusive rights to the package until they make it availible to cable systems you wont have the nfl network on many cable systems
