Atlantic City rail service will reduce trains in winter

ATLANTIC CITY — With winter ridership low, a rail service that carries gamblers between New York City and Atlantic City on weekends will cut back the number of trains it runs from 18 to 11. The change is effective Dec. 18.

The Atlantic City Express Service, or "ACES" for short, began running in February.

Three Atlantic City casinos and the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority pay NJ Transit to operate the service under a $3.8 million-a-year contract.

Auggie Cipollini, senior vice president of operations for Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, said the casinos will decide in the spring whether to restore the service being cut.

He said ridership was good during the summer but had tailed off since.

Not many people know , about the service , one of my friends goes down there alot and he didn't about it. They need to advertise more , make it also look sleek and nice. There website is nice , but they need to do the same on TV commercials which i have yet to see?

Yes it does make sense, but I expected it to cut down to 6-8 trains actually with supplements on the holidays.

agree 100%. another reason why ridership on the nyc-ac line imo other than the summer holiday season, has not done great is the high fares. greyhound and other bus charter companies for the same price as an aces roundtrip fare offers discounts on meal buffets and to gamble at the casinos as well.

When I see the word Express printed on any transportation company I think this is a faster way to where I have to go. There is no point to this train, it take longer to get to AC than the bus. They just should have left it alone, it doesnt make sense to me.

actually the aces can be very useful during the summer as the garden state parkway can be a 'parking lot' during the summer. it also takes riders and thus most important buses and cars off the road. however until improved track connection could be made, i agree it should be a summer season only line.

Oh yeah, which is why I always take the Turnpike to Cherry Hill before heading east!
