metsfan Posted January 28, 2010 Share #26 Posted January 28, 2010 I would pay 50 bucks to take a 30 minute ride from NYC to trenton any day of the week over riding in a car. - A
R44 5278 Posted January 30, 2010 Share #27 Posted January 30, 2010 They have different crash standards there, and their lines are largely separate from freight. - A True, thanks to the damned FRA.
Nexis4Jersey Posted February 1, 2010 Share #28 Posted February 1, 2010 True, thanks to the damned FRA. Which i think is run by GM Executives , the Govt needs to reform the FRA and get rid of these rules.

It's like who framed Roger Rabbit, without anyone to save the day. Lot of people don't realize that movie is a loose interpretation of what indeed happened to Pacific Electric. Until there are railroaders, and not bean counters running the FRA, the acela will weigh 4x more than it should, and only the PRR's electrified lines, and NYC's main line see any attention. Catenary rebuild, track re-spacing, adding second and 3rd tracks and tunnels are the only way out from under the current situation, and that takes $ and tech specs that make sense. - A
Deaks Posted February 1, 2010 Share #30 Posted February 1, 2010 Anyone who rides Amtrak is a fool. You pay so much for so little. I don't think so. If a bus trip to somewhere was £10 and a train trip £20 I would use the train every time. The comfort, ambiance and atmosphere is so much better. As for new Amtrak cars, copy the interior of Germany's ICE. That is all.
