Shortline Bus Posted February 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2010 While the big snowstorm took wall-wall coverage and public attention in the NYC local media over last few days, a very important development occurred in Albany. State Senator Hiram Monserrate (D-Queens) was kicked out of his seat in Albany following his recent 'misdemeanor'conviction of punching and hurting his girlfriend/fiance in a fight. Monserrate vows to file lawsuit to keep his seat claiming that the State Senate broke a law and that only members who was convicted of a felony should be expelled. Some State Senate members, supporting Monserrate to keep his seat, while publicly condemeding his conviction, feel he a scapegoat. Some feel that another State Senate Member Kevin Parker (D-Brooklyn) also should have been 'booted out' and lost his Senate Seat after few years ago he was also convicted of a misdemeanor for punching a NYPD Traffic Agent. Parker is trouble again on new charges for assulting a News photographer. For info here link to the stories. Princelex Posted February 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2010 Good. Between him beating his girlfriend up and him helping Pedro Espada to cause hell by staging that pathetic coup of the State Senate in June, they should have gotten his sorry ass out of office months ago. Pure trash.
SubwayGuy Posted February 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 11, 2010 Get him out of here. Only thing we can hope is his little "lawsuit" doesn't waste anymore taxpayer money. Throw his crook ass in federal, pound-him-in-the-ass prison...that will teach him.
Shortline Bus Posted February 12, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted February 12, 2010 So Guys this Monserrate situation bring up an overall question? Should men and woman who were convicted of a misdemeanor be barred from holding any type of office? IMO it should be a case by case basis. The current Mayor of Hartford, CT was a 1-time member of a gang as a teenager and was convicted of misdemeanor crimes( i think assult). Yet he improved his life and now is a Mayor of one of New England's biggest cities. In case of Monserrate imo, he should be booted since his minor crime involved violence in this case beating up his girlfriend. On top of his suspected abuse of kickbacks as well. Feel free to reply. And as promised Sen Monserrate's has filed a lawsuit against the NYS Senate, with his Attorney, Former ACLU National Director and 2-time canadiate for NYC Public Adovcate(aka Vice Mayor)Normal Siegal. Shortline Bus Posted February 14, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted February 14, 2010 The Monserrate situation is Another example of how Albany state government is in time warp and in many ways still functions like the Tammny Hall era 'bosses' of the early 20th Century.
