Shortline Bus Posted September 13, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2010 new times from MTA trip planner old times from http://www.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/bronx/bx039cur.pdf Sunday old S/B from 241 St 7:02am - 11:09pm new S/B from 241 St 5:00am - 11:00pm old N/B from Clason Pt 7:25am - 11:05pm new N/B from Clason Pt 5:58am - 12:05am Monday - Friday old S/B from 241 St 5:33am - 11:25pm new S/B from 241 St 5:00am - 11:25pm old N/B from Clason Pt 5:50am - 12:14am new N/B from Clason Pt 5:50am - 12:14am Saturday old S/B from 241 St 6:18am - 11:28pm new S/B from 241 St 5:00am - 11:30pm old N/B from Clason Pt 6:15am - 11:20pm new N/B from Clason Pt 5:55am - 12:05am That nice. Now the next step is to restore 24/7 service to several lines that was cut by the doomsday June plan such as in no particuarly order: the B67, M16, B45 and at least as a rush hour only routes the B39, B51 and Q74. hoodciti Posted September 13, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 13, 2010 Figures, I feel like they altered routes and didnt properly adjust schedules. The Bx5 is horrible now and I doubt anything will be done until its reverted back to its original route. I had to take the Bx39 a couple times recently and it does feel like the wait time is longer. Hope this change helps.
GreatOne2k Posted September 23, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted September 23, 2010 Bx39 is now 24/7 between Gun Hill Road and 241 Street (see mta schedule). The rest of the line only gets those span increases shown above
checkmatechamp13 Posted September 23, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2010 Why couldn't they just extend the Bx41 to Wakefield at night? That way, it eliminates an unnecessary transfer.
GreatOne2k Posted September 23, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted September 23, 2010 Why couldn't they just extend the Bx41 to Wakefield at night? That way, it eliminates an unnecessary transfer. No, if they did that the (Bx39) would still have that late start time on Sunday morning (7:25am), at least this way the Bx39 benefits in some way. Also the late night service is usually 60 minutes and not 50 (Bx41) MTA does save some money here.
checkmatechamp13 Posted September 24, 2010 Share #7 Posted September 24, 2010 But because of that, there end up being a few (Bx39) trips that miss a connecting (Bx41). Why bother running them if you are going to miss the transfer by 5 minutes?
JFK 7212 Posted September 24, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 24, 2010 The MTA keeps going on and on about how they're freakin broke and are in a 800 million dollar hole and yet waste money in doing some extremely stupid garbage like this. How the hell do you have the overnight 39 only makeONE connection to the Bx41.Every other trip misses the 41 by 10-15mins.On top of that, they're paying this driver to take 30min breaks at least 3 TIMES at Gun Hill Rd.And for WHAT!?If those handful of people are too damn lazy to take the 2 train then they can just stay the hell home.If they have to go to work that early,TAKE THE DAMN TRAIN!!!!At least the train will connect with the 41 better than the 39 will.Damn what a epic fail this is!

The late night Bx39 should run the full route though.
checkmatechamp13 Posted September 24, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 24, 2010 I agree that it makes sense to keep the (Bx39) running on White Plains Road only if the main portion south of Pelham Parkway is running. Those neighborhoods south of Pelham Parkway are more isolated than 238th Street is. A better way to serve the people would be to run overnight (Bx16) service-you serve 238th Street, as well as former (Bx34) customers.

The last Bx39 running the full route leaves 9 minutes earlier on Sunday night, the schedules were just recently posted at the bus stops, some people could have been stranded since there was no advance notice (other than tripplanner). Maybe if enough people complain the 11:30pm Sunday night bus could run the full route. This would at least make the last times S/B similar 7 days a week (11:25 and 11:30)
