Another sign mess points the wrong way at Wall Street subway station

The Bronx is up and the Battery's down - unless you were in one lower Manhattan subway station Thursday.

Electronic countdown clocks in the Wall St. station wrongly informed riders that trains arriving on the southbound 2 and 3 line tracks would take them to the Bronx.

The direction-challenged message boards also told straphangers, with text and arrows, that trains arriving on the northbound tracks would take them to Brooklyn.

The up-is-down error was repeated in some audio announcements broadcast to riders on the platform.

This is another bad case of riders relying WAY TOO MUCH on technology to get them around. Besides, why read the electronic signs if there are signs on the overhead of each side of the platform (one side to Brooklyn, the other to the Bronx/Harlem).

It's an island platform, it shouldn't be that difficult to figure out which side the train's arriving on, especially with those very large signs hanging over the platforms telling the service patterns. I guess common sense is too much to ask for in today's tech savvy world.

1. Wall Street is a tourist heavy stop, so not all of them know which way is where.

2. If they're raising the fares to help pay for something like this, then damn it do it right!

Have you ever thought that when adding something new like this, it may take some time before all the problems are worked out. In the grand scale of things, these signs are very unimportant compared to the maintenance of the stations, tracks, tunnels, and equipment.
