Y2Julio Posted December 8, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2010 So I saw an R32 today with sparks coming between two of it's pantographs (not the gate portion), any clue as to what might cause this?

Fresh Pond Posted December 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2010 Does that mean they're finally gonna kick the bucket? But in all seriousness, what does that mean?
NYtransit Posted December 8, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2010 the subway doesn't use pantographs... by pantographs,im sure he means the gates and it was probibley the grinding of the 2 metal plates or something,or maybe a faulty in the new paint for the SMS. INDman Posted December 9, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 9, 2010 There's not enough information here to say anything about what happened.
2 Train Master Posted December 9, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 9, 2010 Mhmm..this is interesting I'm pretty sure the pantograph gates are not electrified on the R32,42,62/A's b\c if they were I'm sure me and many others would had been shocked. But yea like someone said it was probably a scrape on the platform or tunnel or wall to make a spark. And recently some 32's have been getting their gates painted over. TheArr Posted December 9, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 9, 2010 From the little information you provide, I would imagine it's just metal grinding on metal enough to cause sparking.

SubwayGuy Posted December 9, 2010 Share #10 Posted December 9, 2010 Difficult to say without further information or perhaps a picture. And yes the subway does use pantograph gates on car classes R32, R42, R62, and R62A.

Y2Julio Posted December 9, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted December 9, 2010 From the little information you provide, I would imagine it's just metal grinding on metal enough to cause sparking. Was only happening on one pair of pantographs and it was @ Jay St, which is pretty straight leaving the station towards Euclid so I don't know how they would grind.
