4P3607 Posted February 14, 2011 Share #26 Posted February 14, 2011 A little off topic but what exactly were they doing on the that knocked out express service? Rehabbing the express tracks. I thought it was because they were removing the 69 Street Interlocking
Kacie Jane Posted February 15, 2011 Share #27 Posted February 15, 2011 Didn't the Nassau Street Line use to utilize the South Side of the Manhattan Bridge via Nassau Street Loop, but they removed it when they brought in the Chrystie Street Connection. Long time ago (Chrystie was the 60s), but yes. Basically what we know (knew) as the <R> would run through the Montague St tunnel to Chambers, but it would keep going and return to Brooklyn via the Manhattan Bridge and DeKalb. Forest Glen Posted February 15, 2011 Share #28 Posted February 15, 2011 Though I am getting worried that every time a train crosses the Manhattan Bridge the bridge is taking in more damage, because of the way the bridge was built with the train tracks on the side of the bridge. The bridge takes in a massive amount of damage every time the train crosses the bridge. The tracks are supposed to be located at the center of the bridge like on the Williamsburg Bridge. The Manhattan Bridge is rock solid. It is supported by 4 thick cables. It may sway, but it will never collapse. I'm confident it can carry trains at least until 2050. And the Williamsburg Bridge had its own structural issues.
T to Dyre Avenue Posted February 15, 2011 Share #29 Posted February 15, 2011 Rehabbing the express tracks. The (Mx) line's changes were affected by the Brighton rehabs of the '80s. If they didn't need to fix the tracks and platforms along the Brighton line, the (Mx) might have died there. And it's likely that the then-service patterns of the ( and lines would have remained unchanged and that only now would we see an expanded service. The reason for expanding the then-rush hours only service to full weekday service was to make up for the loss of the (Mx) on the Brighton Line.
