w8Hou Posted August 7, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2014 A train on the Staten Island Railway carrying 90 passengers derailed as it approached the St. George Station shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday, officials said. There were no reported injuries and all passengers were evacuated safely, said Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Kevin Ortiz. The four-car train's last car, which had eight passengers onboard, came off the tracks as it approached the station, which is the last stop on the railway and is located at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The cause of the derailment was not known. Service was suspended in both directions between the St. George Station and Clifton, the fourth stop on the north end of the line. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/derailment-staten-island-railway-article-1.1895565?cid=radiumOne#ZLhtjCHxVKoAaEf4.
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted August 8, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 8, 2014 That explains why I heard "derailment" on the today. I only heard derailment, and was eager to know what it was.

Lance Posted August 8, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 8, 2014 Based on the pictures (and nothing else, so I might be wrong), it looks like a faulty switch caused the train to jump.
