7LineFan Posted October 17, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 17, 2014 Very good shots. I'd like to take some photos like this as well - you got any tips? I do. Taking a good landscape or scenery photo is not simply pointing at what looks good and shooting it. There is a thought process behind it. First things first, learn what the Rule of Thirds is and use it. Second, if you have a DSLR or similar, never use the Auto setting. Learn what shutter speed, aperture, and ISO are and how they are related, and shoot in manual (or shutter priority or aperture priority). Autofocus is a very good thing, but it is also important to learn how to quickly manually focus on a subject. Third, if you're shooting at night, bring along a tripod or rest the camera on something, especially at slower shutter speeds. Fourth, and most importantly, make sure you can compose the photo in your mind before you shoot. Form a mental image of what you want, and then use the camera to bring that image to life. As with any rule of photography, once you master these three things then you can break them however you want. But make sure you are comfortable with them first.
