R62A 1991 Posted March 12, 2009 #1 Posted March 12, 2009 My first time going solo on LIRR. Cold morning to do it, though. Jamaica photos: The guy below deliberately peeked into the shot. My train. It was packed, yet every single person got off and waited for a Penn Station train. 7.25 for an empty bi-level & comfy seats? I'll take that deal. We took the very rarely used lower Montauk branch (I think that's what it's called). Passing under the Jamaica EL. To Long Island City! Very slowly! Very unimpressive terminal, much less grand than Penn Station. But it's only used peak hours, so what more could I expect. Hope you enjoyed!
via White Plains Road Posted March 12, 2009 #2 Posted March 12, 2009 Excellent pics of the M-7's and bi-levels!
Maddog Posted March 12, 2009 #3 Posted March 12, 2009 Great stuff! Interesting pics of the Montauk branch routing over to LIC. Keep 'em coming!

Joe Posted March 14, 2009 #5 Posted March 14, 2009 Nice pix on the L.I.R.R.! Got to ride it to GreenPort some day, ! Yeah but then you get stuck there for a few hours since east end service (especially on the north shore) sucks.
R62A 1991 Posted March 14, 2009 Author #7 Posted March 14, 2009 Excellent pics of the M-7's and bi-levels! Thanks! Great stuff! Interesting pics of the Montauk branch routing over to LIC. Keep 'em coming! Thanks! Sure will, but not too much LIRR since it's expensive for me. Nice pix on the L.I.R.R.! Got to ride it to GreenPort some day, ! Thanks! I don't think I'll go that far, sparse service over there. Great pics! Thanks!
R44 5278 Posted March 14, 2009 #9 Posted March 14, 2009 How much faster is it traveling from Jamaica to LIC via the Lower Montauk vs the mainline?
