I don't know if this is true or not but I've heard rumors that DeBlasio's vision zero also tweaked the signal timings so that cars would not have a "green wave" on many city streets. This in turn prevented cars from having headroom to "speed up". Anecdotally, I have noticed streets that used to have green lights turn to stop and go reds in recent years.

    Back on topic:
Regarding the blue lines in the Queens Bus Redesign, are they meant to be future SBS type bus lines with all the SBS treatments? They shared the same color as other SBS lines but did not have the "SBS" moniker attached to it.

OMNY basically made/making SBS a name lol

Funny thing is that I was on 7320 on the B41-LTD TODAY wondering if those monitors have or ever had a purpose.... The one on 7320 only says “WELCOME ABOARD” and “STOP REQUESTED” and is blank.

What a coincidence how I was wondering the same thing today...

These are the ex B46 SBS fleet before the 7600s took over the line. It was part of of the original group of test buses.

I can definitely see the rest of the BX 4700s going to Ulmer. My thing is, there's depots with excessive artic buses (FB should send those LFSAs to the Bronx) they really don't need them. I just pased Flatbush around 5:30 and there's like 7-8 XD60s in the depot that are visible from a quick drive by...even with both routes already articulated and its rush hour. CS also has extra XD60s, they only need 5987-6029. I also don't think WF needs all those artics too. Also Quill and JFK are waiting for a few more buses so that'll free up. There's definitely enough buses some buses just have an excessive spare factor. If maintenance did their job perfectly all around the system they wouldn't need so many spare buses.

Wit the way Flatbush buses get into accidents with all these foolish dollar vans all over the place, its best they keep those artics. Those LFSAs also aren't extra's. They sen't 5300s in exchange.

Every weekend I feel like the M34-SBS schedule is non-existent. The FDR Drive buses come when they want to and you could be waiting 25 minutes for a bus only for 4 to show up at once all going to Waterside Plaza (including the M34A-SBS). Not to mention that the actual schedule has THREE Waterside bound M34 buses before an actual FDR Drive one.

Waterside is alot more in accessible. Unlike the FDR branch, there's no alternatives. Atleast the FDR you have the M15 somewhat nearby.

Shouldn’t this make the local much more run more closely with the sbs? I hear a lot of complaints that the local 46 was just hit badly when the 46 became sbs. I think in a way it just balances things out more so people don’t have to resort to taking the sbs when they really need the local.

It was worse when the initial conversion happened. Every local was going to the bridge and would come back delayed. They have added short turns to Dekalb and other places along the route so its not too bad but buses still go missing.

They look great on the B41....... The other day the Depot union wanted the sbs wrap buses onto the B41, B/2/B31 only since the other routes on the depot are causing mass confusion when they're on the local service.. For example a local 46 was using the wrap buses and it caused a major issue where passengers thought it was an sbs bus in service.

This still a problem with the local scheme buses. You ride 7649/50 on a local B46 and they people think its an SBS.

Why did the driver unlock his back doors too? I mean still no excuse but simple steps could've prevented rampant farebeating.

This is one of the things I take issue with. Why some ops create opportunities to enable fare evasion is beyond me.

For some reason, I thought that they would be, because of the timing of the orders and the fact that if we want a modernized bus system, we need modern buses as well, because of the routes need to be reliable, then so should the buses.

Problem with that is that even after these buses come, we will STILL have relatively old (not 15 year sold old, but not new either) buses in service. The oldest artics are from 2010 and the oldest diesel 40 foots are the 2011 buses. A fleet as big as our will never have an all new fleet.

I feel like back when these screens first started getting installed people were assuming that the whole batch was getting them installed when they noticed a trend with fleet numbers. NEVER do that, but then again there's people here that just want to post to post because it makes them feel "official" or whatever lol. Bunch of lame losers.

It is also possible people may have gotten numbers mixed up (like you think you saw 356 with a screen but maybe it was 456 or 355 and etc).

I remember when there's 30 of each (8000 series LFS, 4800 XD-40 and 7000 4th Gens) at Ulmer Park, Queens Village and Castleton. Was this to test out which bus model would be best at those 3 depots?

Probably to put the models under different operating environments (Castleton with the hills in some parts, Brooklyn and Queens with heavy loads, Queens and Staten Island deadheading and etc). Someone with more knowledge may be able to shine light on this better though.

ATTENTION: Please be advised, there is an Eagle Team posted at 155th Street/Amsterdam Avenue enforcing payment of fare along the Bx6-SBS route. Just looking out for my fellow transit buffs to ensure that they stay out of trouble. Have a great day guys.

Thats the whole point of them dawg

Can something be done with B/Os to stop driving like 90 year old grandmas?

Its getting frustrating to be passed by cars left and right while the bus can clearly go much faster

Thats what happens when you put too much runtime in the paddles.
