I have this funny feeling that the crosstowns in Manhattan will be left alone and the north-south routes will be tinkered with in the redesign.

You can't do much with the crosstowns besides send them up or down different streets to the terminal. North and South routes have more room to be messed with.

A bit late to this, but as said before, IMO they should have worked with SEPTA to do a joint card that would be valid on all of the (MTA) and SEPTA.  There is enough crossover between the two in New York and Philly (and especially with college students who go to school in Philly but are from New York) to have made such worthwhile.

Whatever weed you smokin,  I need some of that shit too dawgs....

This is the first time I heard of the SBS machines messing up cards by demagzing (yea I know I spelled it wrong) them.

I know those SBS machines sometimes eat Metrocards and don't spit them back out.. I personally seen that happen to a woman at the Pelham Parkway stop on the BX12 SBS.

If you goto the B46 SBS stop at Kings Plaza you metrocard will be demagnetized there also. I made it a habit of avoiding the SBS ever since I found out about those machines screwing up cards.

Why exactly would they bother removing them if all buses will get them eventually? (Sorry if that is a foolish question)

Because most of Manhattan doesn't have OMNY at their subway stations, and none of the buses besides the NGs from Staten Island, that could be one reason.

I was thinking of trying to go around the city (all 5 boroughs, maybe excluding Staten Island) on non-NYCT routes. Walking, MTAB, MNRR, LIRR, Bee-Line, NICE, all could work (as long as I can pay with either a MetroCard or some sort of phone app. I want to start and end in the same place. Any thoughts on my route or starting/ending point?

    Thanks,

    @New Flyer Xcelsior

Start at Flatlands Ave and E105. Take the B103 to Brooklyn College. Walk to Ave K take the Bm1/4 to Madison and 23 St. Take the Bxm7 to Co-op. Take the Q50 to Flushing. Q25/34/65 to Jamaica. Take the Q113/114 to Seagirt. Take the Q22 to B116. Take the Q35 to Brooklyn College. Take the B103 back.

The Q46, Q43, Q65, Q25 and the Q27 could've used antics buses before the Q12. Those artic buses will be empty after sanford ave and going down northern blvd to little neck. Maybe MTA should have swapped the Q46 to CS and the Q76 to QV. How many artic buses will CS get? When will they start arriving at CS the fall pick is a month away.

Im going to humbly disagree with you. The time I boarded the bus at Bell blvd the bus was full.

Also posted within the CNBC link was a quote from Ralph Nader saying that the 737 MAX should never fly again - I agree with him. The newer 737 was able to enter service with minimal scrutiny due to the plane being perceived as having basic modifications as opposed to a totally redesigned plane. Hopefully the FAA will fully scrutinize any new planes to come to the market.

Perhaps it's also a lesson to large fleet operators not to rely on a single vehicle type (ie - some police depts might've relied almost exclusively on Ford Crown Vics in the early/mid 1990's) in the event that there are serious issues with a given class of vehicle. Southwest loves the 737's.

In the airline industry, having one type means less time and money spent training. The whole purpose of Southwest is to provide the consumer with a reasonable price. When you add more fleet types, you're adding costs.

Really? Come on now. Your issue was with one damn bus that didn’t have an OMNY reader on it, and a newly delivered one at that. Again you’re taking this damn seriously, calm down.

In his defense, MTA has hybrids with OMNY bases installed and working, but they decided to mass retire the 63-64xx as priority. Yukon could have kept some of the hybrids with the readers and then when enough buses have the readers installed, then ship them out. This is how I see it anyway.

Since the MTA XE40s don't go any faster than 10mph, I've never checked them out and thought no engine means the bus sounds horrible...turns out TTC proved my case wrong.

Listen to this TTC op haul this SMOOTH sounding XE40, even sounds better than the XDE40s.

I've been on one that sounded just like this on the M42 at like 25-30 mph
