  1. Well actually, you don't always have to make a route to connect two areas unless service is DEMANDED or feasible... Network coverage isn't always necessary.... The awkward moment when I've been to Ridgewood and can tell you that Cooper doesn't need the service.. Most people in the ridgewood/glendale area use the Q54 and Q55, both of which provide very good connections... Central Queens residents can always take one of these buses lol...

  2. Yes, the Q17 is frequent, but not very reliable. Usually, when I wait for a Flushing-bound 17 at the 182nd Street and Hillside Avenue bus stop on an early weekday afternoon, I need to wait for approximately 12 minutes, and usually at least five other buses come before the Q17.

Once, my friends and I had to wait for 45 minutes. Granted, it was raining pretty hard, which might have caused delays, but four Q43's, and basically at least two buses from every other bus route came by before the Q17 did. It was quite unpleasant.

And yeah, the Q25 totally needs LTD service on weekends, or at least more service. The Q65 needs more service too.

Both routes get packed along Kissena Blvd. It's not uncommon for the bus to be so full, that people need to temporarily get off the bus in order for others to get on and insert their metrocard.

The Q17 pretty much empties along HHE and 188th Street, so I see why the it doesn't look so full in Jamaica.

Really? Whenever I wait for the Q3 or Q77, at least 2,3, or 4 Q17s come but that is during rush hour (at 179th and Hillside)... 45 minutes? Sheesh I would've walked or something lol..

  3. Same thing with the Q17 and Q25.

With the Q17, at least in Jamaica, it is very frequent and doesn't get very crowded often in the rush hour from what I have seen... Does it get more crowded towards Flushing?

I already know about the Q25 lol... oh boy.. I am going from Jamaica to Flushing with some peeps this week and I am def avoiding the 25 and looking to catch the 44 or 65 (I am orion 5 hunting lol)

  4. I have brought this idea up before, but not in this thread...

IMO I think the Q5/Q85 should have some type of saturday LTD service.. Shorter than weekday LTD service though (like maybe 4-7pm, for instance. On weekdays, the last Q85 LTD to Rosedale leaves Jamaica at 8:45). I say this because, whenever I take them on the weekends in the PM hours they get very crowded.. LTD service could speed everything up.. Even at like 9-10pm, the 2 routes get very crowded on weekdays AND saturdays.. But that is just my opinion...

  5. This is a big part of what I was trying to say. With bus proposals, it feels like almost everything is based on people's personal experiences.

In some instances it can be from personal experiences, but only if you frequent the route of course... Like the Q85 for example, may be off schedule, this happens a lot, not only in my experience, but I am saying this as a frequent rider of the line... It can be personal experience/observation if you a frequent rider of the line, but if you aren't then you shouldn't say anything...

  6. One thing I have noticed with the bus and subway proposals, is that most peeps who post in the bus proposals (not all) post ideas that are outrageous and not the brightest (in a very nice way).. I don't understand... Also a lot of peeps who post in the bus proposals think that they are ridership experts talking about fixing services in areas that they don't even go to or rarely go too... Like you can't say, "The Q85 should avoid ____ street and go down this ___ because a lot of people got off near here the ONE time I took it". No you rode it once, just cuz you rode it once doesn't mean you are a ridership expert and that you understand the patterns, I take the damn route EVERYDAY... All these things are the reason why I don't even mess w/ the bus threads anymore, because I just get frustrated.. People trying to fix the lines that YOU ride everyday and they DON'T... In the subway thread, the (W) discussion got really frustrating, peeps who DON'T take the Astoria Line everyday were trying to tell me that adding (N) service is enough when the (Q) goes to SAS for example, I am a frequent Astoria Line rider (My school is at Ditmars) and I notice the erratic scheduling and ridership patterns, shouldn't you take the word of someone who frequents a particular route (bus OR train) as they would know the most about the route (crowding, buses used, major points, w/e) ? I mean that should be common sense....

  7. 179th Street is where most people get off of a 165th Street Bound bus to transfer for the F Train. If they don't get off at that stop, then they'll get off at 169th Street to take the F. Those two stops are also where most people board the bus.

Mostly everyone gets off at 179th, I agree... Quite a few people actually board the bus at 169th (from the (F) ) surprisingly...

  8. So today I was on an uptown (C), when we pulled in at Chambers St I noticed an uptown (E) leaving. So I figured the (E) would just go straight through at Canal and we wouldn't be held up too long. Except the (E) is waiting outside Canal St as we pull in to the station. I've seen that before, nothing really unusual. Except the signal was green for the (E) and red for the (C). The (E) is still outside the station. It just stays this way for a few minutes until the signals switch and we leave. What a needless waste of time.

Apparently, according to MTA.info there was some sort of signal problem on the (E) at Canal...

  9. I have a few ideas, largely focused on restoration of parts of the service cuts and on bringing more reliability to College Point:

1)Extend the Q26 via the Q25 routing from Flushing to Poppenhusen Av/119 St in College Point, and provide full-route service 6AM-11PM on weekdays at 10-minute headways during rush, 15 minutes middays, and 30 minutes evenings, with the possibility of adding in hourly Saturday service if needed.

    2) Extend the Q29 via Roosevelt/Greenpoint Avs to Kent/West Sts (basically taking over the upper half of the B24 routing) with current headways on weekdays and extend every other bus (30-40 minute headways) on Saturdays, with the possibility of Sunday service as needed.

    3) Extend the Q37 to Queens College/CUNY Law School on weekdays from 6AM to 11PM, with the possibility of sending every other bus (40-minute headways) to Queens College on Saturdays as needed.

    4) Extend the Q64 via Jewel Av/73 Av to 69 Av/230 St in Oakland Gardens on weekdays, with the possibility of running every third bus (36-45 minute headways) to run the full route on Saturdays from 6AM to 9PM as needed.

    5) Restore the Q89, extend it via Rockaway Blvd/Liberty Av/Fountain Av to the Gateway Center, have it serve the casino at Aqueduct, and run it every 15-20 minutes (30 in the evenings) on weekdays and Saturdays from 6AM to 11PM. A possible alternative would be extension of the Q9 to the Gateway Center, and extension of the Q89 to the casino only.

    6) Extend the Q104 to Williamsburg via the B24 routing with current headways maintained on weekdays and Saturdays (maybe Sundays depending on ridership).

    7) Double the B24 headways on weekdays (hourly service).

    Here's a map of the changes: https://maps.google.....181854,0.41851

1.) Idk enough about that area, but I always wanted Q26 to go to QCC...

2.) No bus should be extended down Roosevelt, there is enough traffic there..

3.) Using old Q74 routing? I don't see harm in that...

4.) Maybe. I like the idea of extending Q64 in general lol...

5.) I'd rather extend Q9 to Aqueduct IF anything... The old Q89 was dead..

6.) If Q29 would go to Greenpoint (even though i don't agree) then yes.

7.) Why even have the B24 if you want the Q29 and Q104 to take over the line basically?

  10.

Didn't know the 44s were capable of screaming like that. Thought it was only a 60-footer thing, especially prevalent in the 32s.

I've never riden an (A) SB into 42nd (only an (E) ) but I always knew that was a fast entrance..

I love the sound of the train screaming :P

  11. I was on a crushloaded M14! Sucks!

I want to ride a beeline bus. They take Metrocards! Is the fare the same.

Being on a crushloaded M14 (A/D or 8th avenue one) ISN'T fun either. I rode the line for 10 years before I moved to SE Queens in April. M14D was my old home line. I like the LFS Artics though :D
