This is good for the buses, but nightmarish for other motorists.... Not that I have much of a reason to anyway, but I wouldn't take E.L. Grant (as a motorist, not as a bus passenger) if they implemented this.... I can see it now - people parking in the bike lane "to get something (or go see someone) right quick", amongst other things.... Barring weak enforcement, other motorists will get fed up & start using the bus lane.....

I question this design for a lesser reason though..... While I happen to like the (beast that is the) Bx35, while it definitely carries from end to end, this is a bit much for one bus route (bear in mind it's articulated now, so.... less buses) for that short a stint..... Sure every minute shaved off helps, but I personally don't find E.L. Grant to be the slowest part of the thing (even though it has a propensity to get slammed at times)....

The concerns of other motorists are outweighed by those of bus riders. We are in a climate crisis and need to get people out of cars. If anything, increasing the travel times for drivers will incentivize them to switch to transit.

It really seems like they're trying to come up with "innovative" solutions, rather than designing the bus lane rationally. It's crazy how inefficiently the road is designed in this proposal. They somehow manage to remove parking and two entire travel lanes, despite already having a buffer to work with. What a mess.

This idea is amazing and will ensure that bus lanes are not blocked. I don't know what your issue is. This should be the model whenever the roadway is wide enough. Woodhaven SBS should have been done like this. This could be done on streets line 164th Street.

  3. Here are updates for the E. L. Grant Highway project, which is about to get under construction, and for 149th Street

The 149th Street project was already part of the Better Bus Action Plan but was moved up as part of the Better Bus Restart.  Unfortunately, the lanes won't be 24/7. This is the first time the hours of lanes for any street will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.. The DOT usually does 7 a.m. to 7 p.m..

Compared to everyone else around these parts, my MTA collection more or less steers towards the "contemporary" aspect of only "surface-level collecting" (timetables and maps), and is much smaller in scope.

Even then, most of my items date from 2014 to 2018... I really should replace the maps I have, IMHO...

Anyways, here's a poor-quality photo of the stacks of timetables (solely for scale, not showing each individual leaflet):

Now, if you really wanted to see some interesting stuff, just ask @Union Tpke or @Around the Horn as to what I have in my collection... we were fortunate enough to encounter each other many a time at college and both have been at the receiving end of my addiction in the past few semesters, much to a mixture of their excitement and chagrin.

You should share your extensive international collection. I learned a lot from it.

Most railfans don't even know what that stuff is. Personally buses bore me to death, I really don't understand the appeal.

I am fascinated by bus routes and their history, but not so much about specific bus models. There are too many for me to keep track of.

What's difference between R179 and R142 there both made from bombardier how come the R179 has problem and not R142 because R142 never had a problem is made in 2000 and R179 is made 2016 as became a lemon issue I'm hoping they repair the issue problem soon.

You really just quoted the posts at the beginning of the thread from 2011?

Not sure if this would count as a subway proposal but how about using the PATH to serve Alphabet City?

It could turn on 9th Street as there's a provision there for the PATH to turn. The stops could be the following:

    - Astor Place (connection with the (6)(R) and (W)

    - 2nd or 1st Avenue.

    - Avenue B (Could be a 3 or 4 track Platform for a Brooklyn extension)

    (Swing Down Avenue C)

    - 6th Street?

    - Houston Street

    - Grand Street

    - East Broadway (connection to the (F)) and terminate.

The Sole purpose of this extension is to serve the Alphabet City because its clear that SAS won't be able to do it)

There is no need for that. You want an at-grade junction at 9th Street that wrecks PATH capacity and limits TPH to 33rd Street? Not a good idea.

I have to agree with you that if I have to use it I would too. The thing that bothers me about the whole process is the casual user, the people that have no particular reason for riding except for their own pleasure. Those who make it harder to do the right thing by social distancing. Those who have to see a particular type subway car or bus on a particular route or their lives are incomplete. With the recent protests ( many without masks) and those who have cabin fever I'm afraid that the slow reopening of the area may grind to a halt or be reversed as the number of virus cases begins to grow again. It's annoying to me that some people are so selfish that they overlook the big picture. My friends and relatives in Florida and NC are getting a taste of the coronavirus resurgence. I hope that we New Yorkers are smarter than the others. I want this over ASAP but it seems that not everyone has the same goal.  Carry on.

That is why it bothers me seeing all the fanning videos on Youtube. If they are from a transit employee who has to be using the system that is fine, but people should not go into the subway to railfan at this time. I don't care if the R32s come out for one day. They are my favorite cars. I am not going to put myself and other people at risk.

The switches at Kings Highway are out of service until around September, so regular weekday service likely won’t return until then. New switch machines are being installed that are incompatible with the existing GRS Model 5 interlocking machine. Next time a switch throws at Kings Highway it’ll be under the control of the new interlocking being constructed there.

This is why the F for the time being will continue to run the essential service schedule - the base F schedule is inoperable right now due to Kings Highway being unavailable. In the interim it is possible that a supplement schedule will be written with slightly increased service and a few trains turning at 18ave. Either way, the F’s train requirements are reduced compared to the base schedule which is a major help in this situation.

Yesterday afternoon, 5 R160s from Culver Yard were transferred to Rockaway Park Yard. Overnight, several more consists from JYD and 179 layup were transferred to Pitkin Yard. One of them is a Siemens set.

28 R32s are currently at ENY now after 3 transfer movements yesterday evening. Given that access to/from 207 yard isn’t available this weekend due to a GO, that number isn’t likely to change until Monday at the earliest.

The GO with the removal of Kings Highway is going to be very interesting. It is more than just a few trains ending at 18th. I would love to fan it, but won't due to the pandemic.

Right now, the schedule is 30TPH, but it is so tight that literally any delay (like some a**hole holding the doors) for even 5s will cascade backwards. Two minutes is the absolute minimum and if you hold up a train in the station you hold up all the other ones behind it.

IIRC, this is why CBTC on Lex was initially not brought all that far forward, because dwells are so high on Lex that it is unlikely that the signalling would actually help.

You need to solve Roosevelt to deal with it, which likely means turning Woodhaven into an express stop, though I would prefer having my 45-50 mph express run.

Unfortunately can’t provide details because they aren’t set in stone (and not public info yet) but there may be some car shuffling to make service in response to the temporary removal of the R179s from service.

I presume R68As from the (B) are in play.
