  1. Then there's the other thing that goes with it: what if it's successful? Kinda like how tobacco taxes were to fund Medicaid programs, and they were flush with cash until the number of smokers dropped and caused Medicaid programs to run deficits and then get cut. Soon as folks stop driving below 59th St...
  2. But if he campaigned on lowering speeds on streets for pedestrian safety, and NYC voted for him, isn’t that part of his mandate from NYC voters - and appropriately “not controversial” - since it’s not a constitutional or charter issue and falls under “Home Rule” as NYS Law is concerned?
  3. So speed limits and bus lanes are constitutional/charter issues, and not part of a political mandate?
  4. This is literally what’s supposed to happen after winning elections.
  5. It just makes more sense to me - mindset-wise. It’s not like elsewhere where express buses were faster local buses - in NY they were private services filling a need / wasn’t meeting - like Conrail was until NYS bought trackage in the Conrail breakup - and like Conrail’s predecessors were. Based on the activities I see you, your group, and your peers are undertaking, EBs aren’t meeting the need as well as they could/should/need - since they’re sharing resources with local buses. So if they can’t be privatized again because DOT has policy and ideology, why not have the railroads run and subsidize them out of MNRR and LIRR budgets, and operate them as commuter services instead of “not SBS or local bus services”? Similar mindsets as commuter/non-local travel might improve things more than “fitting it in”. Could even result in better air quality and economic expansion by creating services that get Upstaters on MNRR to EBs taking them to NJ job centers - and reducing traffic on bridges and highways.
  6. Can someone help me understand why folks would choose X25 over just taking the Lex to Wall St or BG - the bus is ~20-30 minutes ideally, and the Lex Express is 10-15? I’ll tell what else I don’t get - since this whole discussion here began: Why are express buses under or Bus instead of the railroads? Go with me here: • Express Buses (EBs) are designed to get people with longer commutes to CBDs faster - like the railroads • EBs have a different fare structure than local buses, but have to share resources with them - which holds back both services in ways • EBs subsidies make limited limited stops - akin to railroads outside core NYC So why not merge EBs in with a new department - Regional or Commuter, include the railroads with MNRR leadership leading it, and operate the EBs like rail services - as first/last mile connectors like HudsonLink or the old X25, and as rail branches/mainlines to CBDs, PABT, or cross-boro services (ie Q to Bx)?
  7. How do you get $80 cost on a bus - was it transporting air 14 hours a day?
  8. Even with the $6.50 fare? Explains why SI had the network consolidated for efficiencies. Doesn't explain why NYC Ferry gets the same or higher subsidies for fewer riders when more areas could use subway services or express buses in the short-to-long term and lower fares for them.
  9. As it goes whenever AAVE gets appropriated by “suburb-dwellers” who don’t respect the definition and the context.
  10. The thing I’m wondering is how they count who’s gotten off the bus for those pax counts - is it a formula for how many times the front door opens without a swipe or tap AND how long the back door stays open, or something else?
  11. Reminds me of this time in Sacramento in high school or college when I was rounding a corner trying to get on the 23 bus to somewhere in the City of Sac (I lived in urban, unincorporated Sacramento County) and waved to the driver to stop and he waved back as he passed me.
  12. How to know you’re having an off day: I switched from to at Nevins Street even though my destination is Franklin Av.
  13. I’ve worked in Startups - and around startups in accelerators/incubators/combinators long enough to tell you that it’s true - the bulk of these equity funds will throw money at almost any idea even if the people who have it have no practical experience doing it. When you have time, read up on a vending machine startup that used to be called “Bodega”.
  14. They are on the Nova Buses for that one seat in front of the left wheel well behind the driver.
  15. Ahh, it is there. Definitely counters the sentiment that Cuomo just rammed this through instead of folks studying alternatives. Although with 116 years of experience building stuff and studying its portion of the lithosphere, I’d venture to say and might know why it can’t do certain things easily and cheaply (looking at ESA). I wonder if those questions were developed as part of the post-9/11 desire to push planned potential explosion threats (ie parked vehicles with timed detonators) further away from terminals and crowded areas.
  16. Mad that S52 is unofficially running hourly, so I had to S44 to Jewett Av (where I had the driver “comment”) then S48 to Slosson/Bay to walk home since 52 never showed up. But the arm is fine. And I can still smell and taste.
  17. 8 years I’ve been a resident; better part of 25 years I’ve been swiping MetroCards or putting coins in the fare boxes and today’s the only time a driver at a stop with multiple routes on it expected me to hail them to stop instead of honoring the global custom of waving to tell them not to stop. Got my Moderna jab though.
  18. That your way of saying I’m getting a DM shortly? 😂
  19. Unlike the last time I had a driver that shouldn’t be driving, I didn’t get her control ID and tweet at NYCT. I do have the bus number though - JIC NYCT asks me some questions.
  20. NYC bus driver to me: “You didn’t wave at me so I thought you were waiting for a different bus.” I guess we have to hail bus drivers when standing at bus stops now. FOH.
  21. Warning yard workers and trespassers that there’s a risk of injury from high voltage under the train doors?
  22. Grand Street isn’t yet there’s no bus from Barclays or DeKalb to Canal or Grand.
  23. I’m on the M15 and am amazed that no matter how many bus service cuts does, the B39 still exists taking three people across the Williamsburg bridge when the and trains are right there.
  24. This wasn’t DRM. This was like having a Sony Xplod deck but not being able to put your faceplate on another Xplod deck because the new deck wouldn’t recognize it.
