  1. I think he means he’s a yard switcher, basically moves trains around the yard but I could be wrong. I don’t know if they refer to the crews that bring trains to layup and back out in revenue as switchers too.
  2. I don’t think too many people fail that interview. As long as you gave a response that wasn’t a straight no or you weren’t willing to learn, I think everyone passes it.
  3. LIRR M9 9197-9198 are at the Kawasaki plant.
  4. Of course, if the bus goes off-route, then the bus doesn't appear on bus time. I think the express buses have the screens set up to after the last pick-up stop, they go blank or just play ads until they reach the first drop-off in Manhattan. I've had a guy that would toggle his destination sign to "MTA Bus" or "Not In Service" after last pick-up stop for whatever reason then proceed to kick us off at 6th Av/36th St because he was lazy. Or the bus sometimes just has a broken tracker.
  5. If not in the Fleet thread, then where? Just random thoughts? I thought it should concern at least the Fleet and Depots thread, just saying that this bus may be oos for awhile due to damage.
  6. 1552 is on the Qm20 Super Express, going to guess that the MCI’s are breaking down more than usual.
  7. They've been struggling to meet service as of late so stripping parts to keep other units alive is probably an act of desperation to run some service. Hopefully, those R211S begin revenue service soon.
  8. Easy I believe 522 regularly operates with 12 cars. The conductor in charge of the doors was all the way in the back and there is a slight curve in scarsdale so he probably closed them once he saw an all clear from a conductor closer to him. Regardless, I believe that the conductor positioned toward the front should have left her key in the door to prevent the doors from closing on her but hindsight is always 20/20.
  9. A little update on the Siemens Chargers for MNR/CDOT. https://ngec.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Metro-North-Railroad-Siemens-NGEC-2024-PPT.pdf so far everything seems on schedule if not early.
  10. That wouldn't surprise me. Adding on, Kawasaki has a lot on their plate especially if subways decides to go through with the option order which they probably would. I'm sure other agencies have also placed orders with them so maybe Siemens or Alstom? Siemens has a lot of Chargers to build as well and Alstom mostly has a Euro-centric profile but they did secure the contract to build those coaches for CDOT for Waterbury, Danbury and the Hartford line in August last yr (expected in 2026).
  11. I’m no RCI but damn R62A #2093 has a sunken floor which I don’t think is just the vinyl floor cover, like the structural floor feels as its about to give way.
  12. Actually, the M9A order consists of both LIRR and MNR cars. The M9A was purchased with federal money that was specifically set aside for increased rolling stock due to East Side Access opening up. Regardless, a builder hasn't even picked yet as far as I'm aware so they haven't even started production on those. It'll take awhile till we see an M9A on either property.
  13. Anybody knows what happened to 6001? It looks like it hasn't run in awhile.
  14. If they have classes lined up, that’s when they’re fast. If they don’t, they take their time. It also depends how well you scored, if you just barely passed, you got slotted for maybe the class after or they send you an email or letter saying they’re going forward with other candidates. Chances are you did very well. Congrats! The harder parts are still ahead.
  15. Depends if you’re going for A/C (rando 25) or Engineer (all).
  16. Trust me. Most of the LIRR engineers are off the street, nobody really has the skill set and those that have done it from a prior railroad may even have to adjust to each trains handling, some have better brakes than others, smoother acceleration, etc. I was a bit scared to do it at first but you eventually get used to it. It's a fair amount of multitasking as well. The hard part is the studying to be honest and remembering to operate according to the rules. If you're more of a people person I understand the reason to choose assistant conductor but definitely don't count yourself off engineer solely because you lack the skill set.
  17. random. Just like the definitions, 25 out of the sixty something.
  18. If you're going for locomotive engineer, it's a bit different because I think they show you all 133 (134?) signals and you just write the names out for all of them. They ask for indications on only 25 of them I think and then the standard 20 or 25 definitions as well.
  19. Do you want locomotive engineer or assistant conductor? You have to pick one path pretty soon anyways. Not like you can choose both paths.
  20. They show you a picture of the signal and you write out the name and indication. Names have to be 100% and indications have to be 80%. Then the next section is just the term and blank space to write out the definition of it.
  21. Has to do with the equipments maintenance cycles. Every single day, each piece of equipment has to be inspected and tested before it can enter passenger service. Now Fleet Management has already mapped out which trains that particular M3 will run on barring any equipment malfunctions and it should end up being wherever it mapped out.
  22. The accordion joint is probably not too difficult to replace but the bus is 13 years old at this point. Who knows maybe a frankenstein may occur?
  23. I’ve been seeing a lot of C40LF’s get road called recently parked up on Main Street lol. I’m guessing the NG’s are here to fill in that gap.
