  1. Demolishing the buildings in the area would essentially be a non-starter thanks to NIMBYism and the fact that one of the buildings is a Quaker sanctuary. If possible, it might be easier just to have the route curve to the right and go under Livingston instead, and in that case since it will run under NYCTA's building, they might actually try to build it properly and quickly to minimize disruption. (That is if MTA admins actually go there for more than a few hours a week.)
  2. Could you maybe convert the ROW to a highway-speed busway? This could take traffic off Woodhaven as a fast Q52/Q53 would attract more people, and a busway will cost much less and will be easier to reroute over current obstructions.
  3. I haven't paid to the R179 delivery in a while, so can someone tell me what sets have been delivered and where they currently are?
  4. Isn't "sick passenger" sometimes used when referring to suicides or people suddenly dying on trains?
  5. At least they were honest this time and said something was following rather than a "police investigation" or "signal problem in area"
  6. Currently with all option exercised, 1695 cars can be delivered, but only 1175 are planned. Retiring all B-division OTTs would allow for 210 extra cars to expand the fleet (if 1695 are delivered), but I doubt the MTA is considering this as if they were, they would have ordered some non-SIR single units to replace the Franklin R68s. However, considering how late new MTA rolling stock comes in, they could retire all 75 footers and then reconfigure some R160s or R179s to be married or triplet pairs for Franklin service.
  7. It's not a waste of money if it is useful. To keep costs low, I would fold 148th into Lenox Yard (the platform could be used for employees), and lengthen 145th to 10 cars (as well as remove that diamond crossover). A new short tunnel to the Bronx will be built, and the line will run to Pelham Pkwy/Stillwell Av via Sedgwick Av, Fordham Road, and Pelham Pkwy. Stops: Yankees-153rd (MNR) Sedgwick/Fordham Grand Concourse (in-system free transfer to , OOS free transfer to ) Southern Blvd Boston/WP Rd Esplanade/Pelham Pkwy () Stillwell Av If you wanted you could add stops on Sedgwick Av, but I would not advise this. You could also have it link to Dyre at Pelham Parkway and have it run to Eastchester, but that makes the line less attractive.
  8. My view: Triboro RX to the Bronx seems like overkill, and by there you have reached Amtrak trains on the NEC. A station at 31st (Astoria-Ditmars) is unlikely to happen due interference with the and . Just end it at Northern Blvd. Sending the to Bedford is a waste of money. If you extend the to the Bronx, you can either build under the Major Deegan directly to Fordham to allow for a fast ride to Manhattan, and then have it curve crosstown. Another option would be to extend the under Jerome and then have it curve across Fordham to Co-Op City. This eliminates the need for LRT and allows for a more useful in the Bronx. The can also run to Woodlawn via this new tunnel, replacing the EL and allowing a 4-track underground line ( local and express south of Fordham) , but the MDE option is better imo. I would also extend the to Co-Op City.
  9. Injured I would expect, but regularly people were killed? I searched for that but I could not fine anyone being killed, just injured. Do you know how many people were killed by faulty doors?
  10. Swapping the and isn't a good idea as one-borough local lines generally don't get high ridership, like the . Plus QBL is getting CBTC and 8th will probably be the first Manhattan line to get it, so keeping the at WTC will allow it to operate extra trains sooner.
  11. To be honest, they probably wouldn't mind the MTA rebuilding the el unlike other neighborhoods *cough cough Astoria*
  12. You spend billions on a pointless underground line because the NIMBYs said "How dare you rebuild that ugly el, I want a underground line that will cost a ton that I will complain about and criticize the MTA for even though I asked for it"
  13. Woo!!!!!!!!! Also now expect some diehard 5-year old foamers to be like “omg R179 should be thrown in ocean and R32 and R42 should be rehabbed and stay forever11!1!1!1!”
  14. suspended express in Manhattan south of 59th to allow more room on local tracks in two sections: 2nd Av to 205th via / (8th Av LCL) and 36th to CI via to West 4th suspended (Metropolitan shuttle operates normally) local in Brooklyn to allow trains to reverse on express tracks
  15. A few thoughts: Sending the via the is a lost opportunity. The is the sole IRT line (minus the shuttle and of course) that can be extended to better serve the Bronx. I would fold 148th into Lenox Yard, lengthen 145th, and construct a new line to the Bronx that would curve crosstown and go under either the CBE, Tremont, or Fordham. A extension to Co-Op City still also makes sense and should be built as well. in Bronx should be left as-is. Extending it to Lefferts seems pointless. If you want to eliminate the Lefferts branch, you would have to have the use the outer platforms of Hoyt and from there build a new extension to the at Jay to avoid merging with the until West 4th ( would be via Rutgers). If you ended the at Euclid though it could allow for service to Lefferts as it limits the amount of merging. I am not advocating this, and for now, the best you can do with improving Rockaway service is to sending maybe 2/3 of trains there. Building a new el would also be a huge issue as we have seen how Astoria has thrown shitfits, and ENY would probably be no different. No line to SI should be built. From Manhattan cost will be astronomical, from Brooklyn the ride will be pointless as you are dragging riders into Brooklyn. It is easier and cheaper to improve bus service and encourage people to use the ferry. It's larger, has a nice view, and is free. The should not be extended to Queens. Instead, a new trunk line should be built (a 4 track express one). in the Bronx should be left alone. Swapping the and makes little sense. A new yard adds more money to the price of a LGA extension. Sending any train via 63rd will cause issues as backups will ensue due to trains switching tracks. to Flushing is senseless as most riders head to Midtown. This also goes for why an extended could only work on weekends and evenings.
  16. It probably isn't as he would have stated so
  17. How does the plan affect and service? They may pass through 14th, but are not affected.
  18. If you were to connect SAS and Nassau, rather than build the jughandle to Bowery, just connect it to the old eastern tracks north of Canal, and then have those connect to the older eastern ones after Canal. No need to reconfigure everything and build a jughandle to a station that is in the bottom 5 for ridership in Manhattan. I am not advocating for this though, connecting it to Nassau makes the line less attractive and does less of a service as Nassau already gets rather low ridership in comparison to other downtown trunks.
  19. They SMS'ed a few pairs which is why I am skeptical they are going by this summer- when a car is retiring in less than a year they usually just throw on some duct tape
  20. If I'm correct, the R42s will be retained through the shutdown.
  21. 45 mins seems unrealistic. I once flew into JFK around 1 pm on a weekend and I decided to try the rather than the or /. I ended up waiting 20 minutes and it took another 20 to get to Broadway Junction. I then gave up and went to the . Generally the is the best option outside of rush hours, during rush hours you can probably just take the / . It may be slower, but at least you aren't in a human crush.
  22. The takes maybe around 35-45 mins, the is MUCH slower
